i remember those days.
in my (uneducated) opinion, this seems to be a software issue since the fix is to shut off "Voice & Data" which fixes the issue. I figure that the verizon "advanced LTE" network is having issues with indicating roaming neighbors as indicated from some of the older posts on this thread.
Making a giant assumption here... here my hypothesis.
- The carrier can dictate which LTE bands are used for. Thus, can dictate that VoLTE can be on bands 21, 22 and 23 (random numbers). And can indicate that LTE data only bands be 30, 31 and 32.
- bands 21, 22 and 23 are the new "Advanced LTE" bands, and are having software issues on Verizon's end - particularly with the ability to transmit system data as noted in some prior threads with forum users who are posting data from their phones.
- The reason switching to LTE Data only works, is because 30,31 and 32 are working fine and don't have the same issue as the new "advanced LTE" bands.
I'll admit I do have a very very rudimentary background in radio trunking technology, please don't crucify me.

I've been following this since the beginning. I've been experiencing the same dropped signals as everyone here. Let me first start off I live in Manhattan NY. I just spent 24 hrs in the suburbs of Milwaukee Wi. I was at a meeting in an auditorium on a lower level of a corporate complex. Not once had the signal dropped. Even in the car rides. Something has to be up in the NYC area. When I land it will be interesting to see how the signal reacts
I just received a text from Verizon stating my ticket has been closed and the issue has been resolved.

Put zero stock in that. Verizon did the same with me and it turned out the ticket they created was about data signal strength in my neighborhood and has nothing whatsoever to do with the phone. This issue won't be fixed until an announcement is made and/or an update is pushed out.
They tried to auto close my Verizon ticket too via an automated call, but I selected an option to keep it open. Did you miss a call from them?
Nice so it seems beta 2 is getting things done.
I was skeptical about this beta but the carrier update has done something. My signal is staying strong and hasn't dropped yet. This was with a drive to the grocery store. The drive to work tomorrow will be the real test.
Nah - let them figure it out for themselves!!! LOLSo if the beta seems to be good for everyone over time, should we report that to Apple?
How does "the fix seem simple" if there is no actual fix yet, and at best perhaps some workarounds (that come at the price of something) which aren't even necessarily something that work for everyone.Another article on BGR.com

isn't Verizon buying Yahoo? so that explains that.
