Quite surprised I got a total dud! Camera lens was scratched! Front glass over the screen didn't quite fit leaving a very noticeable notch along the right side and activation kept failing. Luckily I'm near a T-Mobile store and they had plenty in stock. Switched from the black to the white and absolutely love it. There's a reason Apple didn't advertise the black or give it out to reviewers, it just looks like a 7 with a glossy cover over it. Matte Black will go down as the better looking phone and this white is beautiful! Reminds me of my iPhone4 days and really stands out.

Very surprised QC let my first one out the door, but it wasn't a sweat to swap it out and I am really enjoying my replacement now :D

Pleased with my 8, coming from a 6s. Very quick even after using iCloud backup. I personally like the true tone display. Glass back is so pretty but I gotta use a case...dont trust myself.

I’ve noticed that my WiFi connection is slow and almost “non-existent” at times. I know it’s not my network because I’m testing several devices at the same time. But yes, I have noticed that my WiFi connection is sluggish, slow, and at times it just hangs there
I just wanted to update. I (knock on wood) have had no issues as I did on Friday night. The interesting thing is that when I put my old phone in the box to send back to ATT, it kept turning on again (I think it was hitting the on button). Like it didn't want to leave me or something (yeah, I know that's creepy and weird). Anyway, the guy on the phone from AppleCare said something about that maybe this phone was getting mixed up with the previous phone. So I think my old phone finally shut off or something because it stopped (again knock on wood). I'll see when I go home today :).

Update after a full day with the 8 Plus:

Screen still looks great, convinced its significantly better than my 7 I had before. Now starting to think it's better than my 10.5" iPad Pro!

Battery Life: Best battery life I've ever had - took it off at just before midnight last night, and just put on charge at about 9:45pm. From the settings, it had 9 and a half hours usage. 2 hours of that was Netflix, an hour of YouTube, max 45 mins personal hotspot, another 30 mins camera usage, and the rest other apps like social networks, web browsing, etc. Either way, it felt like it lasted ages.

Earpiece: I too, like many others, have the crackling on calls so hopefully that's an easy fix in a software update. Really don't want to swap this phone out since it's working really well otherwise.

Camera: Finally got to try it out. Better than the 7 I'm sure. Photos came out detailed and with great dynamic range. Telephoto camera seems really fussy for when it wants to actually work, needs tons of light it seems. When it does decide to activate during shooting, the zoom is amazing along with a decent amount of detail. Might just be me unsure of how it works as of yet.
Video dynamic range seemed a bit odd since it was constantly blowing out the sky whenever it wasn't looking at it. Otherwise, quality seems great.

Scary moment: I took it to the bathroom, put it on the corner of the bath and it slipped down the tub into the bath. Only a few drops of water in it so no water damage, but reminded me how slippy that glass back really is. Gonna get a rubber case ASAP!

Is there a reason the 2 Qi chargers on the Apple store are £50?
That’s the going rate for Samsung’s own wireless charging pad on the U.S.
59.99 for the regular charge or 69.99 for the fast charge. I’d say $50.00 is a steal, especially coming from Apple.

Even when it’s indexing, it shouldn’t drain that bad. I would get it checked out if it doesn’t improve soon.

I agree and after 4 days of horrid battery drain I downloaded all my photos to my laptop (deleted them from iCloud), wiped the phone and set it up as new yesterday.

I'm thankful to say that this morning after 2hrs, 6mins on standby and 3hrs, 35mins usage the battery is at 94% so it's possible I had some rogue process draining the battery.

For those (7+ users) sittting on the fence, here's an additional advantage to switch over.

As i just tried and tested an extra piece of slickwraps i kept, and it fits the new 8+ just nice :D

Pardon the poor image as I took it with the iPad Air 2...

More impressions to come. Phone is truly snappy. Open a bunch of apps and then swipe to close them as fast as you can. It looks like app slides under the current app icon. Pretty slick. Little things. The iOS bold title font is atrocious but that isn’t hardware. Camera looking good so far. This was about 2.5 zoom (really y’all palm). Not bad for a phone. ...Went to upload pic but even jpeg was too large.

I really am loving the 8 plus over my 7 plus I really do think it is a huge upgrade and personally I like the design even if it looks dated not a fan of the iPhone x design so that why Apple created this iPhone with 90% of the features

I really like the 8+ SG. Like the speakers and camera. Everything is a huge jump from my previous device. Turned true tone off. Don't like the glass back, finger prints are highly visible. Hate the lack of a 3.5mm. The battery doesn't last a full day. Looks like Ill be caring around a dongle soon. Just like back in 2006.

I upgraded from a 6s to 8+. This allowed me to dump a family member's 5s and give them the 6s. I wanted a solid camera included in the device. X was on my mind, but between the wait, the price and not wanting to jump in on G1 of the latest technologies, I opted for a tried and true format with the 8+.

Battery life, camera and screen are amazing. The speakers are an improvement and the general speed of the device is incredible. I realize the overall design is a little long in the tooth and that's unacceptable for many but this is a beautifully refined version of iPhone. The additional real estate of the screen is a welcome change, this is my personal and business device. Wireless charing is no big deal to me, but a nice feature. Phone is very responsive, but I never felt my 6s was lacking. It was great on 10.3.3. Battery was replaced a year ago so there's plenty of life left in it. iOS 11 is clunky and very much in need of work! I did two backups, one to iCloud and one to MacBook and could not use the MacBook's backup. Also had challenges getting it to maintain a wifi connection at first, but once I got past that life has been great with it.

Exact same reasons as me. I'm hoping there will be an X Plus next year. I'm not paying £1000 for a longer screen
I’m in the same boat. The best part about the 5.5” Plus screen is the width. It made video in portrait mode better, typing is easier, and text is more legible. I don’t think I could go down to a screen the same width as the iPhone 7 anymore. The iPhone X screen is narrower than the Plus.

I don't see very many complaints regarding the iPhone Plus battery life. What do you consider a full day? Depending on your usage, someone should easily be able achieve 12 hours or longer.

Coming for a 3year old 64Gb iPhone 6 to my 64Gb iPhone 8 which I recieved sat (sept23).

Differences from going from 6 to 8 is night and day. True Tone display works amazing , speakers blow away the 6 , camera for both front and rear are also much better then the 6.

Battery life is absolutely amazing on this phone, but I can’t really fairly compare it to my iPhone 6 as it was 3years old.

My Space Grey iPhone 8 looks beautiful , and when I went into the Apple Store to buy a Ultra Violet Silicone Case (Purple) I got to look at all the colours and the gold was by far the ugliest imo.

Space Grey>>>Silver>>>>>>>>>Gold

New user, first time posting here.

Long time Android user here who recently purchased iPhone 8 64GB in Silver. I have used iPhone before (iPhone 4S) but it's been years so I figured it was time to try Apple again.

First impressions so far:

I'll start with the positives

-Physically the size is perfect for me. I have small hands and I like to able to use the phone one handed. I also like the home button and don't mind the bezels. I've used Android phones with little bezel and large screens, and while they're nice to look at I found actually USING those phones a bid tedious for my Bart Simpson hands.

-The haptic engine/touch ID/3D touch are awesome. I didn't expect to be impressed by this but I find it all very useful. At first I thought it was gimmicky but after using the phone for a few days it's essential.

-Despite not having a headphone jack, and using the silly adapter, the audio output quality to my headphones is excellent. This surprised me a bit, but I'll take it!

-The music player app is MUCH improved over what I remember from my iPhone 4S.

-The phone syncs up with my car better than Android phones in regards to music playback. My car can read the playlists etc from the iPhone. With my Android phones it only shows a huge list of songs that it reads from the phone. No organization.

-Camera seems good, though I have yet to really test it much.

Now for the negatives:

-Had an issue where the music player app wouldn't save my edits to my playlists (minor)

-Second day of owning the phone it simply stopped downloading apps. I tried all of the troubleshooting tips I could find but nothing worked. Ended up having to do a factory restore. Was kind of disappointed at that to be honest as Apple is supposedly more reliable than Android devices (I've never had to factory restore an Android phone) and having this happen with a brand new device. Better it happened earlier though I guess. The factory restore did fix the issue a long with my music player issue.

-Coming from Android the lack of customization is going to take some getting used to.

All in all, I'd say I'm pretty impressed. The X looks interesting, but to be honest I like the home button/touch ID, and the pricing of the X in Canada with tax is obscene.

I'm happy with the 8.

Kris.

I don't see very many complaints regarding the iPhone Plus battery life. What do you consider a full day? Depending on your usage, someone should easily be able achieve 12 hours or longer.

During the day I listen to podcasts, audiobooks and normal internet browsing during down time. Half hour commute. Then exercise with a workout app and music playing. I have a wireless charger on the way for the desk. Hoping that will help me leave work fully charged and I can make it until I plug it in before bed.

Anyone having problems with storage capacity? Yesterday morning my phone was out of space. It’s been fluctuating -+ 5-10 GB of storage ever since.

I upgraded from an iPhone 7 so wasn't expecting a miraculous update. I did not participate in the iOS11 beta so the new phone has a new feel to it partially due to the iOS update. The glass back is very pretty, albeit I never see it because I case my phone.
Love the wireless charging, bought a few chargers and placed them in key locations. Work, home office, nightstand and that has been really nice to set the phone on the stand and not worry about the charge as I listen to music or chat away during my work day.
Frankly nothing else really jumps out at me as far as wow, I like having the new processor of course, but don't notice any significant improvements with any of my usual apps.

CONS/BUGS? Have had two occasions where using the three tap to activate the magnifier froze the phone. Tried it a few minutes ago and no issues, so don't know if it is my hardware or iOS11. Time will tell.

Overall great phone, if you are like me and don't mind shoving a few extra bucks month to Apple, and figure the 10s will be a super cool upgrade than it is nice, if you like to keep a phone for several years to get you moneys worth out of the thing I would wait for the 10.

I upgraded from iPhone 7 Plus and despite there not being too many advancements over last years' model I'm very impressed with the camera, True Tone and overall fluidity of the device.

Granted iOS 11 isn't as good as it could be (hopefully .X update will solve some of the issues) but if you're thinking of upgrading I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I just watched a video and the guy said that the Apple Leather case for the 7 is too tight on 8. Can someone verify if it’s true?

I don't have an iPhone 7 case, but I do have the Amazon Basics iPhone case and it fits perfectly on my iPhone 8.

Got an 8 Plus yesterday, came from a 6. I really like the Plus - I am big and have big hands so it feels more comfortable in my hand. Speed is impressive (upgrading to iOS 11 on my iPhone 6 really slowed things down). Like the 3D Touch features.

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd create a thread for new owners of the iPhone 8 / 8 Plus to share their first impressions of their new iPhones. Would be interesting to read some of your first impressions on things such as the design, display, camera, performance, fast charging and everything else.

I'm thinking a lot of users upgrading from the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus would be somewhat underwhelmed? I'll be switching over to the Note 8 soon after 8 years of iPhone and being disappointed with the the iPhone 8 and X updates, but it's always good to read some real first impressions from everyday users rather than those from the usual review sites and Youtube reviews.

Edit: Would be great if you can mention what phone you had previously, just to get some context.
++ I've had a 5S 16G Verizon phone and upgraded to the 8 (also Verizon) basically for the 64G storage. Overall I am satisfied with the iPhone 8 performance-wise, however after just ten days I see two scratches on the front screen which are fairly apparent, never had such obvious scratches on the 5S. I use a bumper case but no screen protector and carry the phone in my shirt pocket. Anyone experience this or have any suggestions on how to request a replacement (to which I will add a screen protector)? Thanks.

Picked up my 8+ today. I decided to wait for gen 2 iPhone X next year as face ID poses serious problems for me at work. And that notch...

Anyway, first impressions are good. Straight away I liked the heavier feel, the glass isn’t anywhere near as slippy as the aluminium, so it feels safer. I might not use a case with this

Next up is the camera. Wow! It’s really good, I real improvement on the already good iPhone 7 Plus. The selfie flash is brilliant as are the lighting effects on portrait mode.

I bought a nice IKEA bedside lamp with Qi charging built in. It works great. The battery life seems better too.

The screen is very nice. Slightly higher saturation and the true tone is really good.

It seems fast too. I have tried my best but I just can’t get this sucker to lag.

Overall I’m very happy with the phone and feel like I have a real upgrade over the 7. If the X turns out good I might pass this to my wife but I will be more than happy to use this iPhone 8 Plus for the next year

8.5/10

This is the front facing camera in a dark room!

Ordered the 8+ two weeks ago and received it last week. Oddly enough, I didn't unbox/set it up right away. A couple days ago was when I really went in depth with the phone. I am coming from a 7, so I'm really used to the 4.7" size screen.

The display on the 8+ is absolutely gorgeous. The colors just pop and the screen is vibrant (I immediately turned True Tone off). I love the larger keyboard since I text friends/family a lot during the day. Battery life is on par with what I expected from the +. I really like portrait mode on the camera, even though I don't take a lot of portrait type images. But it's definitely nice to have. The device is fast, but I feel that my 7 is still able to handle the majority of tasks I'm able to throw at it.

Overall, I really like the device. It will take me some time to get used to the size though. I don't plan on using wireless charging until Apple releases their charging pad next year. There is a small part of me that wants to go back to the 7 and sell the 8+, but I think once I get used to the size that feeling will subside.
