That only performs a regular power-off... I'm talking about the COLD reboot (reset) that was performed by holding the power button + volume down button on the iPhone 7 for 10 seconds, which resets the phone in the same way as holding the power-button on a computer for 4+ seconds resets the computer.

Press and hold the power button first, then press and hold the volume down button as well.

The glass back feels so great in the hand. Otherwise, pretty much the same as the 7, which is great.

Regarding the cold boot, I had to do that this morning (the 8 shut down and would not come back). The Apple support said press-and-release up volume, press-and-release down volume, press-and-hold power. It started up.

Apple will be telling touch ID iOS devices (phones, tablets) for three or four more years at least. But I agree that it will likely not come back to the "X" series. The question is does Apple make an "8s" or "9" with TouchID.

its delusional to think Apple will make more 8S or 9 when the Phone future is already written in 10. I mean. people need to use some common sense
[doublepost=1506100693][/doublepost]
Gruber has been wrong before... I think if Apple can figure how to make it work with the OLED display they will in fact bring it back. Why because the competition is going to force them too with Samsung and others not only offering Face ID, Iris Scanning and Touch... Apple just having Face ID will keep them behind the curve. It is also going to depend on how well it works and the feedback they get in the next several months too. It seems pretty clear they wanted to include Touch ID, but just couldn't make it work.

These delusions need to stop. Apple would be laughed at and saying hey we think this insecure tech needs to come back and oh yeah Face ID is not the future because we are bringing back the old tech. I mean people need to use some common sense.

We shall see about that. Apple has been laughed at for just now bringing wireless charging along with many others tech areas they were behind in. I think you are the one that is delusional if you think Apple won't add Touch ID because of a statement made during their recent presentation. We won't know till next year, but I'll be sure and tag this thread so I can come back and feed you a little crow! LOL

Based on what you are saying.. this means all these older phones including the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus with Touch ID are now suddenly not secure enough. I call BS! Making the statement that Face ID is more secure doesn't make Touch ID less preferred or somehow inferior so Apple will abandon it.

Reading the minds
"Its ok man, you don't need the X"
"This looks fine....i mean...look...isnt it...good"
"I don't need the X, who needs the X, X is for losers, only rich brats want it....i wish i was rich"
"Who needs the X, I am fine with the 4 year old classic design....i hate the notch...damn the X, damn it"
"he he he Whats X he he he"
"wish I got the X, ill just type i love this 8, i mean its good right...right.....i need a drink"

Hey since you're reading minds did you get this when you read mine?
"FINALLY a new design! I've waited sooo long for Apple to....wait, does the content actually go past the notch? Is that letterboxing in landscape mode? Is the screen really a stretched out 4.7" iPhone? Does tap to zoom crop video and actually hide it behind that...notch? So tall of a screen that it's not a one handed device annnnnd no more reachability? Untested face ID? I have to stretttttttttch to reach the Notification Center drop down? No worries, reachability. Oh wait.
Hold up, this dated 8+ still has a nice wide screen. It has the same internals as the X. It doesn't hide content. It's native resolution allows video to fill my entire screen. It, it, it meets all of my preferences. But, who will know I have the new phone???? It looks the same as the last 3 but does everything better, yet no one will know I have the new phone!!! Wait, weird, it's like I don't care? Like, I don't justify my self worth by my phone? I don't need 'attention'? Will they know I had the money to buy an X for me entire extended family but simply chose the 8+? I don't care about that either? Shoot. Guess I'll just have to enjoy this phone I chose because to me, it's the best option. How boring"

Personally I won't use a device that requires facial reckognition. I'd rather use the old passcode method. TouchID is perfect I think. It's super convenient, and I also have it on the MacBook Pro 2017 which I'll use for many many years to come. And I don't want a mix of FaceID and TouchID on multiple devices.

Got my Space Grey 8 + this morning really love it over the 7 + the screen with turetone is great and love the glass back and the extra weight feels better in the hand. The pictures from the camera also seem a lot brighter then the 7 plus .... really happy with the 8 + just was not a fan of the X design at all and like the wider screen on 8+ and the bigger phone ... also got a Apple Watch series 3

Just received my iPhone 8 in space grey. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the iPhone 8 and 8+ do work perfectly with existing iPhone 7/7+ LifeProof cases.

I really appreciate the glass back, as the 7 and 6 was just WAY too slippery which made it impossible to use them without a case. I can comfortably use the 8+ without a case!

But why would you want to is what I wanna know? To each their own but man... the thought of carrying around a $1000 device where 1 drop can shatter your screen and/or damage the exterior is just too much for me to handle.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L1F1OV6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'll invest the $8 in a quality case that doesn't interfere with the display... has raised edges to prevent the phone from landing directly on the face... and has bumpered corners for shock absorption.

I've used these for the 6 Plus and my 6s Plus and have dropped my phone many times on concrete floors and pavement at work...

... not a scratch.

Seems like a no-brainer. Good luck with your new 8 Plus. Will post my thoughts on mine later when I get home. It just got delivered.

Typing from my iPhone 8+ 256gb unlocked space gray version, I upgraded from original 6+. Very fast. I did some comparisons on wifi with both phones and this one smokes it so very happy. Truetone is very nice and 4k video at 60fps is life changing. Slomo and touch ID is greatly improved from 6+ versions. Love the look and with otterbox clear case it looks very glossy and sharp. If you get iphone 8, space gray is the color to get. Ill wait for iPhone X2 or X4 if I wait another three years;)

That's exactly what I'm coming from and going to, good to hear you like it. I assume your clear Otterbox is a Symmetry, right? How is it with fingerprints? I've been thinking about picking up a clear case but then I see all of the fingerprints and it turns me off.

Space grey 64GB 8+ here. Upgraded from 6S. I really like it. The camera is a huge improvement. I really like the glass back, which has made it a lot more grippy which compensates for it being slightly heavier. I wish they made it completely black, but I can live with a dark Space Grey. The metal colour around the edge matches my Apple Watch at least!

No interest in the X since it was announced, personally very disappointed with it on paper. Very happy with my 8+.

REALLY? The guy at best buy said not to but the Lifeproof, because it wouldnt fit.

Went from a jet black 7 Plus to a Gold 8. It’s way more pink than I expected. Especially in the sun but it feels so great to use a phone that disappears in my pocket. Forgot what that felt like. Very happy with my decision!

Picked up the 8 plus this morning at Verizon. No line. I had a 7 plus previously. Been a huge iPhone fan for years and after watching the keynote with the X, I wasn’t totally blown away. After reading the rumors about production challenges, liking the plus screen size (I know, the X is taller, but it’s not as wide), and not knowing the reliability of Face ID, upgrading to the 8 plus felt a little more safe this year. Obviously it’s familiar, yet it feels different. The glass back is very nice and as mentioned previously, gives the plus a high end feel. It’s also easier to hold on to. The screen is beautiful. Colors pop and the True Tone does give it a warmer feel. It’s quick...extremely quick. Speakers are louder, have more clarity, and a little better low end...I wouldn’t quite call it bass. Personally, i don’t care about bezels. I’ve liked this form factor since the 6 plus originally launched. So for me, is it “worth” upgrading? Yes. Is it much different than the 7 plus? Probably not overall, but it definitely feels like an upgrade. At the end of the day, the internals are the same as the X. Battery life, wireless charging, etc. I will give you a heads up, the gold is interesting. In certain light, it appears a little like rose gold and can take on a blush or pinkish hue. Some light it takes on a creamier white look on the back and deeper gold on the sides. It’s different. Classy looking. Should Apple be criticized for launching the 8 series? No. It’s a solid upgrade, but everyone’s definition and expectations of what an upgrade should be is going to be different. I’ll say this, it’s the absolute best design this form factor has ever had in my opinion. Hope everyone enjoys whatever model they are looking at. Good luck for those “X” hunters out there. Part of the fun will be finding one when it launches.

Love the glass back but my phones glass on the back is not seamless. the bottom right side feels sharp and raised compared the the rest of the back. I will probably take it to get replaced; I don't want issues with waterproofing or just placing my finger on a sharp edge as I tend to go caseless.

Silver 8+ 64GB. I am impressed. I am happy with it. Camera is for sure improved. Speakers are clearer and louder. Glass back is a welcome change back from the iPhone 4. TrueTone works great. It is more of a 7S, but I still think it was worth it for those not interested in the X.

Walked into AT&T when they opened (I was the only one there) and grabbed one. They did not have ANY 256GB 8+ (backordered), but oh well.

How's the speaker phone. Did they fix that? Does the person on the other end say that you sound like you're in a tunnel?

So I upgraded from an iPhone 6S Plus to an iPhone 8 Plus. I love the true tone display, the only thing missing is the higher frame rate like on my iPad Pro.

Nevertheless the classic design, beginning with the iPhone 6 in 2014, may be on its high.

Got my 8+ 256 Space Gray this morning. Moved from a regular 7. Reason? Missed the bigger screen (I had a 6+ before). My thumbs appreciate the bigger keyboard! I really appreciate the glass back, as the 7 and 6 was just WAY too slippery which made it impossible to use them without a case. I can comfortably use the 8+ without a case!

I'm kinda disappointed that the Space Gray on the iPhone 8 doesn't match the same color / hue as the Space Gray on the MacBook Pro 2017. The Space Gray on the iPhone is significantly darker. Almost black. There is basically no similarity between the Space Gray on the MacBook Pro and the Space Gray on the iPhone.

So far so good, except, I can't for the life of me figure out how I can do a cold-reboot on the 8+ ... If anyone knows, please tell me! The regular hold power button + volume down button doesn't work any more. It just presents Emergency SOS regardless! I've tried countless combinations and even looked at Apple's website without being able to figure out how I can do a cold reboot of the 8+.

Anyone??

Yeah, I find it really odd that they're calling it space gray, when clearly it's black. There's no consistency among the colors throughout their product lineup. Really weird for a company like that to make that sort of an oversight. And if it's not an oversight, then it's just a weird decision.

REALLY? The guy at best buy said not to but the Lifeproof, because it wouldnt fit.

Mine fit perfectly in the same LifeProof Fre case I've been using on my iPhone 7 for the past 9 months. Didn't have to force it or anything. All the buttons work flawlessly.

Silver 256gb delivered like 20 minutes ago.

Display quality is a little better than Jet Black 7+.

Glass back is nice. Not slippery st all.

Works with Samsung wireless charger.

True tone makes the display warmer than I like. My eyes tend to prefer the cool, blueish iPhone tint.

Camera is MUCH better than the 7+, which was complete crap. Competes against my Samsung S8+ easily.

Touch more weight.

Speakers are way louder. Like not even close.

Overall responsiveness is a hair better than iOS 11 on my 7+.

No hideous notch.
