Not a faulty design. The batteries had bent pens/blades or whatever they are called on the ends and other things wrong with them. I can't recall all the details, but it really wasn't the design it was the supplier of the battery that made them badly.

Yes

I was under the impression the issue was the batteries were too large. I believe Samsung officially stated this and blamed their design.

It was the shape that cause the opposite charge electrodes to touch. Basically the battery wasn't designed as a perfect rectangle. One of the edges was difference so it could fit. That edge was the problem where the charges touched. So yes, the battery was too large, and they tried to stuff it in there anyway. Big mistake.

Can't lose with either. What impresses me about the last several Samsung flagships is the camera's focus speed. Something that's important to me, since I take a ton of quick unplanned shots. Occasionally I still get unfocused pics from my iP7+ by taking quick shots, iOS11 hasn't change that. I'm wondering if the iP8 camera has improved in that regard.

Autofocus speed still slow on iP8+. Pretty much same camera with slight processing tweak.

iPhone X has exactly the same width as the iphone 8.
Apple-Shows-You-How-To-Design-For-iPhone-X-2.jpg

You can see it on Apples Human Interface Guidelines.
https://developer.apple.com/ios/human-interface-guidelines/overview/iphone-x/

I think next Year Apple will release two sizes for the iPhone X.
If you like Plus Size, iPhone X is no option.

I saw that a while ago, VERY disappointing that you are just getting a taller iPhone 8. Also the screen is smaller than the iPhone plus:

Hmm they are supposedly accurate, but is the iPhone X screen really almost the same size as the Note 8's screen? Man, that means the iPhone X is going to be very tall.

Just curious. The Pixel 2 XL comes in at 6 inches so is the experience comparable to the iPhone X and Galaxy S8 or the Note 8? Will it be a noticeable difference from the X?

Why are Apple and Google making smaller phones? Why is no one making a bigger phone like the Note 8?

Got to think phones are only going to get bigger too. I see no reason why the note 9 won't increase to say 6.5 inch if it's barely bigger than the current device

Except it’s not really all that big when you take aspect ratios into consideration. I don’t like the fact that they all are deceiving customers with the screen size. Everyone I talk to regarding the X keeps thinking the X is bigger than the Plus l(even on these forums!) until I enter into geek talk about aspect ratios at which point they stare at me blankly.

Thanks to Apple and their low supply of the X, I don’t have time to play with one at the store as it will be sold out in a few minutes. Yes I know the S8 is comparable but that has an edge screen which may make the front narrower than the iPhone X.

I am counting on the fact that the bezelless display will make the screen feel bigger than it actually is. It’s too bad no one is interested in making a huge phone in 2017.

If you think that why are you even considering a X, if I thought a company was deceiving me I wouldn’t be giving them 2K lol.

Apple had a repair program. The note 7 was an official government recall and aircraft ban.

Exactly.

They are marketing larger phones, but they truly are not larger, just taller. The rationale is so it fits better in your hands, but strangely ignores the issue of reaching vertically. IMO you take the 16:9 measurement, chop off the rest and that's your TRUE screen size.

The point is Apple did not do a recall for an inherent flaw in the product while Samsung did. Doing a recall is not a bad thing as you were implying

Coz every company is doing it including Samsung and Google. Everyone is stating they are building 6 inch phones when they aren’t any better than 5.5 inch phones from 2016.

That repair program did jack **** as you have to pay for repairs. Might as well get a new phone.

The aircraft ban was only in US and India.

Samsung was not made too. They did it on their own twice. The bans happened after the second recall was put in place.

Regardless of the sequence the note 7 was a mandated government recall in the end.

Or maybe it isn’t. Pretty quick to leap to a consclusion without any facts.
So whose fault is it?
[doublepost=1506792471][/doublepost]Anyway, does anyone know how reliable/fast the iris scanner on the N8 is with glasses?

Sorry, but it is Apples fault. They used one of the same suppliers that Samsung did with the Note 7 and should have known better. Now they are having an issue with the batteries too. Again, did Apple do all that rigorous testing that Samsung does? Probably not. Several phones showing up already, that is a bad sign after a week or so.
[doublepost=1506795329][/doublepost]
I almost bought one until I saw reviews saying the material leaves little bits on the screen and you have to keep blowing them off. How are you finding it?

Haven't seen that yet. They sure it wasn't pocket fuzz?

That is to be determined. As of now no fires, which is the big thing.

It’s a bad sign but no fires. How do you know it’s not a supplier fault issue ie Samsung. You don’t. And given the note 7, I’m gonna say you have no clue what goes on behind the scenes.
