I think a light user might find the iPhone leaves them with more at the end of the day but its irrelevant as we all charge our phones overnight anyway, even the Note can last a full day on standby. What really matters is real SOT usage as that is what will stop a phone from lasting a full day under heavy usage and its clear from all the videos that the Note wins that hands down.

In other words, note 8 has better battery life if you use it. iPhone 8 has better battery life if you don't use it.

Good summary. I use my phone a lot so I'm more than happy with my battery life. Other people who value standby will be better off with Iphone.

My iPhone 8+ battery is a beast.
Phones arena tested it as well as well as the note 8, they seem to get much different results than random YouTube videos.

The version of iOS 11 will make a difference.
So you think the battery life will double? Would be great if it was true. I am getting miserable battery life on my 7 Plus nowhere close to what these 8 Plus owners are reporting.

Again, with normal use like texting / browsing / YouTube / social media both get great battery life overall but I still give the edge to the 8+. When you add benchmarking and gaming then the much more powerful CPU and GPU will obviously consume more power in the iPhone - it’s a pretty simple concept. It’s not like I chose to not use the iPhone or Note 8 as much as the other. So yeah, if you do a lot of gaming on the go and need the extra battery life, then the Note would be the better choice for that use case.

We could keep going in circles forever so I’ll stop but at least have an open mind to both sides - everyone who is replying seems to want to “win” and prove the N8 is superior in that department but I think if you really used both and weren’t so subjective you’d see what I’m talking about. Again, I think both are awesome phones in their own rights and battery life is a win in either phone relative to other choices.

But the tests show it to be true.

S8 plus no note 8 here...

LOL! Someone posted ONE PhoneArena article and said all the others are just random YouTube videos.

What is utterly hilarious is that we don't even know what PhoneArenas test method is, they just show us some graphs and tell us they run some webscript, yet the YouTube Videos actually take us through every single thing right there in the video.

The lengths people will go to defend their precious Apple are truly disturbing like wow.

I have to say, I'd rather have 2 extra hours of web browsing than 5 hours extra of 3G talk time.
Both phones would last me the day, but the iphone has ios and that kills any hope of me getting an iphone.
That's not me insinuating ios is subpar, it's just preference.

You and me both. Luckily the Note 8 gives me more than enough SOT and battery life for my needs. But talking is actually the last form of communication I use on my phone. :D

Indeed and GSMArena took Stand By into account

LOL! I guess GSMArena is just a random website now.

Let's see where the iFans will be moving the Yardstick to now...

both are great phones but all that's showing me is that the iphone 8 plus w/a smaller battery gives 2 more hours of web browsing, and is better at video playback as well. 3G talk time? Who does 20 hours of that really?

And most reviews of the 8 plus laud the battery life, and that's before ios 11.1.

But every other test including GSM Arena show the Note 8 has better battery life. One test out of all those doesn't make the iPhone 8 a winner.

Absolutely not!!! Gaming and watching/streaming video is something that will definitely chew up battery on the iPhone more than the a Samsung phone. All the long trips that I make frequently, this is something I have experience in.

I give the edge to iPhone when it comes to web browsing. It seems to drain less battery. Maybe cause of WebKit. Will also say iPhone still has better stand-by life. It will probably take an entire day to notice any difference vs the iPhone. Day to day usage, even with AOD on, the Note and iPhone is comparable with stand-by life. But if you leave it on stand-by for several days to a week, that's where you'll see the major difference in iPhone's favor.

Yes, iPhone 8 Plus has a smaller battery (2675 mAh vs 3300mAh), nevertheless performs better in two categories out of three in the GSMArena test.

that's what i'm getting at. So the 8+ battery is almost 20-25% smaller but it lasts longer on web browsing and video playback. Everyone's use is different but 3G talk time is hardly a deciding factor to me.

No point boasting about iPhone battery life if its going to halve in the next iOS update. I paid a lot of money for a 256GB 7 Plus and my battery life is comparable to a mid range Android phone. The 8 Plus absolutely demolishes the 7 Plus in battery life which just shouldn't happen.

Actually only on 3g calls. Web browsing and video playback, iPhone 8 is on top.
Don’t really care for the random number score.

I went to that site and added the samsung s8+ to that chart and it shows the Samsung s8 has better battery life than the s8+. I wouldn't trust that chart/test.

Actually the s8 plus is comparable to the score of the note 8. A bit higher but comparable.

So many posters that actually own both have been saying the same.

I would trust phones arena and the posters on this forum more than a few random YouTube videos ;)

This hasn’t been my own experience. My 8 Plus has had better battery life than my Note 8 with similar usage.

Mine too...my 8 Plus blows my Note 8 away in more things than just battery life as well.

I’ve used both for video playback, my battery has fared better with the iPhone. Both with high brightness. Perhaps I’m doing something with the Note that I’m not with the iPhone that I’m unaware of.

Standby isn’t close. iPhone fares much better. I think that’s just the nature of iOS vs Android.

However, Note 8 charges like a demon. Both wireless and wired. Wireless charging with the iPhone is so slow it offers no advantage even if you just want to top off.

My experience as well between the note 8 and 8 Plus was the 8 Plus having superior battery life as well. As someone else said, maybe it’s the superior stand by battery drain of the iPhone that helps make up the difference. Because I can easily go a full day with half the screen on time being gaming and not need a charge until the end of the night

This statement is flat out wrong. As someone who has actually used both devices in question, the iPhone 8 Plus wins in the battery life department. If a Note 8 had 40% left when an 8+ was dead, then the N8 would have a battery that would last most people almost 3 days off the charger with about 14 hours of SoT.
