I think the Note 8 has better battery life when using the screen for things like video playback but the IPhone 8 plus might have better standby. I'm not sure but that might account for the differences in battery life amongst different use cases.

I’ve used both for video playback, my battery has fared better with the iPhone. Both with high brightness. Perhaps I’m doing something with the Note that I’m not with the iPhone that I’m unaware of.

Standby isn’t close. iPhone fares much better. I think that’s just the nature of iOS vs Android.

However, Note 8 charges like a demon. Both wireless and wired. Wireless charging with the iPhone is so slow it offers no advantage even if you just want to top off.

This hasn’t been my own experience. My 8 Plus has had better battery life than my Note 8 with similar usage.
I look at some of this 13 hour battery life some are getting with the 8 Plus and look at my 7 Plus with jealousy. I am getting almost half that and with low-moderate use. It’s really bad imo. Already tried a clean install and battery health is 97%. iOS 11 is going to waste my charge cycles and ruin my battery health.

The Note 8 does get far brighter than the iPhone 8 plus to be fair. But like I said, don't people just have different experiences than others. I'm frequently going over 20 hours usage and 6 hours of SOT before I get to 30% and decide to charge. A lot of people don't get the same thing. I use advanced location services also. Does the iPhone have that?

My experience as well between the note 8 and 8 Plus was the 8 Plus having superior battery life as well. As someone else said, maybe it’s the superior stand by battery drain of the iPhone that helps make up the difference. Because I can easily go a full day with half the screen on time being gaming and not need a charge until the end of the night

I don’t believe so but perhaps iOS does the same thing without it being an on/off feature.

It’s not easy to compare them 1:1 which is why I don’t like speed test videos. Personally I can only go by my own daily usage.

Do a factory reset on your Note there is something seriously wrong. Note 8 battery life is in another league compared to the iP8. Only the standby time is better in the iP8.
8 plus. The regular 8 is good but the plus models are known for having beastly battery life.

Not compared to an S8 plus or Note 8 they don't ;) Refer to any of the battery rundown tests on youtube, iPhone 8 Plus is out of juice while Note is still around 40 percent charge.

This statement is flat out wrong. As someone who has actually used both devices in question, the iPhone 8 Plus wins in the battery life department. If a Note 8 had 40% left when an 8+ was dead, then the N8 would have a battery that would last most people almost 3 days off the charger with about 14 hours of SoT.

Videos don't lie. There are many that show it. The iPhone 8 plus can't touch the note 8 in battery life. Only standby time.

I'm on day 4 with my Note 8. So far the battery is slightly better than my 7 plus. But the Note 8 charges so much faster in my car (and everywhere else). I'm a heavy user and I used to have to keep my 7 plus plugged in while in my car pretty much all day (i drive a lot) just to have 20% battery at the end of the day. Today I had the Note plugged in for maybe an hour total. Tonight my battery is 88%.

Based on what I have seen from iPhone/Android battery comparisons, if the iPhone 8 Plus isn't the best battery life in a phone, it's a monumental failure.

8 Plus has a different processor.
How is it twice as long lasting? That’s can’t just be the processor. My battery life after 2 hours is on 81% and from use, once it goes below 40 it drains 1% a minute.

Do you have both phones at the same brightness i.e. 500nits?

Remember when they test these things they keep a level playing field.

So after doing a detailed research for a month on both iOS and Android these are the conclusions. Samsung offers the best hardware in the smartphone industry but the software is a problem compared to stock Android which is what I am used to with my Nexus 7 and 5. The Pixel has that software but I am reading a lot of issues with the screen and hardware. One of the Verizon stores had a screen with a dark line running across so its the screen lottery with the Pixel. Some are also saying it’s a non laminated display which is inexcusable at that price. I still don’t get why Google hasn’t yet nailed the display aspect of their Pixel lineup as the Nexus 7 and 5 I have had great screens. The iPhone X is extremely overpriced for a smaller screen than my Plus and it still doesn’t come with the best display Samsung has to offer.

If the display is your primary value add and the cost benefit weight is high you get what deem is best for you. I could care less about display being oled which is why I’m about the i8.

And what is that?
Not sure what you mean? Battery life was pretty self explanatory. I get a lot better battery life on my 8+ than my N8 in my everyday use.
My overall user experience is better on my 8+. From unlocking it using the FPS to all around general use.....I like the 8+ better to be honest. The design is better and overall ergonomics and ease of use are better on my 8+ than my N8.

Then to be honest....all these speed tests and benchmarks don't mean squat. I don't judge phones by those things. They are useless when to comes to user experience.
