Having a choice Comes at the expense Of the fact that apple doesnt seem focused on one Phone at a time ,This is just my opinion , i may be wrong though

Since jobs has passed away , apple has annouced two and Now 3 phones every year
it's cool, because people have more options But still keeping it to a maximum of 2 phones each year Wouldve been much better,
Its like they make iphones with the same Design... but in different sizes ...
And Honeslty, I liked How it was before 2012 better

I think the rumored line up hit the right spot as far as marketing goes. Apple can not make everyone happy.

More choice is always good.

More choices is always better, because it forces Apple out of their little niche comfort zone. It forces them to start innovating again, something they haven't done in many years.

Imagine if a car company only made one model of car, no options. Or a refrigerator... or a toaster. Or a neighborhood where all the new homes were the same, all you could choose was the color.

This is a large part of why Android flourished. Choice. Remember, the iPhone was originally limited to a single carrier. No choice.

Android was offered on all of them. Then Android phones got better as they all started competing with each other. You had cheap phones, flagship phones... you had little phones, big ones. You could choose what hardware you wanted... You could choose if you wanted an on screen keyboard or a slide out physical one. Need a stylus, that slides inside the phone when not in use? They got that covered to.

Everyone today seems to think that "diversity" is all the rage... So why not have a diverse product range? Not everyone wants a $1000 iPhone X, or a $1000 Note 9.

Now everyone is racing to see who can get the smallest bezels... Who cares? If the bezels are too small, then you can't use the phone properly... when you hold it, your fingers will invariably make contact with the edge of the screen and cause unwanted input. When you put a case on there to protect your $1000 productivity tool, you may cover the edge of the screen, or get it so close that it now makes touching the edge when needed, difficult. Imagine trying to drag an icon or widget from one panel to the other, but you can't get right to the edge to make that happen... Form over function strikes again...

The notch was a solution to a problem that didn't need to exist, IMHO. I just picked up a Galaxy S9+ and the small bezel top and bottom is fine. I don't have a large "chin" and yet I don't have an ugly notch taking away screen real estate...

I like that Apple is going to offer more phones. Some people see an iPhone as a status symbol. They know nothing about technology, they just WANT AN IPHONE. Perfect, charge the noobs $1100 for a phone that isn't really much different than the other models...

But offering a lower price point with an LCD panel, that's a good thing. I went back and forth between the X and 8+ and side by side, the differences are minimal. Apple LCD panels are so good, it's not worth an extra couple or few hundred dollars for AMOLED.

If the new iPhone line up has the "budget" one with a 6" screen and the CPU and internals are the same, I think it will be a yuuuuge hit. YUUUUGE.

The differences in camera, or between LCD and AMOLED are trivial most of the time. $300 difference in price for a device that you plan to throw away in a year anyway, isn't that trivial to most folks.

I’m torn between the Plus and X type phones that will be coming in the fall. My current phone is the the 6S Plus which has been the best overall phone for me out all all the iPhones since the the 3G. I was leaning to the X until all the posts on people getting eyestain and headaches from it - something like 40% of the ones responding to the poll on MacRumors. Several other posts on the internet as well.

I guess I’ll wait until the new phones and specs are announced.

The 3G, I hated. Nothing but dropped calls no matter how strong my signal strength was... went through 3 of them, all had the same issue, the last one I finally threw across a parking lot in frustration, watched it smash to pieces and I went to the store and bought my first Android and was happy and stayed there for years. LOL

I am sure one of the new ones will be to your liking. Between the 8+ and the X, I went with the 8+. Fit my hand better, larger more usable screen, and I got the 256gb version for cheaper than the base level X.
[doublepost=1532611609][/doublepost]I would have kept the 8+, but with the iOS 11.3 and after updates, wifi was broken. Tried resetting network settings, hard reset the phone, went out and purchased a new wifi router, nothing helped. My wife's 8+, her iPad Air 2 and my iPad Pro 13", all had the same wifi issues after the update and we couldn't roll back...

We would be connected to wife, but after 5 minutes, maybe an hour, network traffic would stop... you had to either reboot the device, or turn wifi off then back on to "reset the connection", and then it would work for half an hour, and then die again.

Really a pain in the butt when you are trying to stream netflix to your chromecast from your phone and have to stop and start it 4 times to get through a movie.

So I had to get rid of the phone because none of the updates were fixing it, and while it doesn't affect every device, it does affect a lot of them.

My iPad Pro didn't get fixed till I updated to ios 12 beta, but it still has it occasionally, although a lot less often...

Otherwise, I probably would have kept the phone longer, until the new ones came out. But I went to the Essential because I got it on sale, and just moved to the GS9+ and am loving it so far.

6S was the best iPhone in last few years. Had much faster CPUs so it's still fairly quick today in iOS 11/12, decent amount of ram, and has the 3.5mm jack. I wish that was the model I purchased as I'd definitely keep using it until iOS is just too slow on it.

As for the poll, i wouldnt put much faith in that. I have an X, have no issues but I never even heard of any poll to participate in. Reality is online stuff is heavy skewed to folks wanting to complain about issues as folks who have no issues dont cruise complain forums.

Really strange you have so many problems with Wifi across all your devices. Not sure, sure sounds like it is something else going on but you say you changed your wifi router, so maybe its something upstream...or maybe it some setting you put on all your iOS devices.

They were rock solid till the update and then wifi was all jacked up, random stoppages, intermittent, etc...

Upgrading to iOS 12 beta did fix it 90% of the time. It was clearly a software issue, and not an uncommon one.

None of them fixed it for us... So she just turned off wifi and I had to get a new phone.

I can't believe people are still arguing over this. The X is superior! It's the future. The physical home button is dying.

Either device is good for the next 3 to 4 years. Let’s not pretend one is suddenly going to be obsolete in the near future. They are essentially the same device albeit for FaceID. You’re going to get a solid iPhone experience whichever one you choose.

Dying? The home button is still very much relevant for a formal biometric security, especially considering the iPhone 8 will see approximately another four years of iOS support which would bring us to approximately 2021. But in a sense of actually be included for future iPhone models, that would be face ID specifically.

That's what I meant. Face ID is the future. That is what Apple will use in all of their upcoming phones. Not Touch ID.

The X is better. OLED display. Edge to edge screen. Better telephoto lens, and if you ask me, Face ID is far superior. This is the flagship.

Hopefully they will have the PWM figured out inthe next model. I really want to upgrade in the fall/winter to the new X model but am concerned due to so many complaints about eye strain. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

If you purchase from an Apple Store, you can try it for 14 days to see if it bothers your eyes. They might fix the problem for the new phone.

For me it comes down to the keyboard. The keyboard is wider on the 8 plus. The X looks nicer and has oled, but if you text a lot and like a wider phone, you have one choice. X plus will probably be ideal for many,

It will also depend on the software implementation and where it places the keyboard. If the X Plus has a similar form factor to the existing plus, the lack of a bottom bezel may mean the keyboard sits in a lower position than now which could make it awkward to hold and type. I do think - hope - they will have the foresight to avoid this by shifting it upwards.

Perhaps you should try yourself rather than rely upon internet complaint forums. Ive got an X, no eye strain here...
folks go online to complain far more often than to say "hey have no problems with my phone"

One thing I learned going from a Plus to an X, you adjust and get used to pretty much anything if you let yourself.
With that said, Im definitely going to a X Plus though Im surprised how well Ive adjusted to the X size screen that part of me is saying "eh, dont really need it and this smaller size is a bit more comfortable"

I’m a current Plus user thinking of switching to standard sized X when the new models launch. Much as I like a larger screen, I know I don’t need that extra space and I want a smaller overall form factor.

I have sensitive eyes and I'm not suffering from eye strain.

I know I'll eventually have to move to an iPhone without the home button, but for now, I want to keep it as long as I can. I tried an X for a week and in my use, I mount it to my dash. It's connected to bluetooth for playing music and so on. Having to lean over since I apparently sit just barely too far away for a face unlock was a PITA. Tapping in my PIN then defeats the purpose. Having a home button that I can easily and quickly tap while driving to me is more convenient and safer.

Right, but there is an entire thread consisting over 52 pages and 1,287 posts of those discussing concerns due to PWM that have may be experiencing eye strain. Its been discussed heavily on here:

I do rely heavily on the MacRumors folks for their insight and so many pages along with other articles on Reddit also mention the PWM issue. I’m not saying that it will bother me personally as I won’t know until I try the X model. But it is definitely something that I’m glad I’m aware of before making my next purchase.

Why not aim it at your face?

Yes and how many are unique users and not single users posting 10s of messages in the same thread.

It could be real, but there are also many other factors that contribute to "eye strain" and folks LOVE to vehemently complain in macrumors forums. :)

My wife’s boss swapped his X for an 8 Plus and was told in the Apple store that some people are sensitive to flickering in OLED displays. It’s recognised on many sources not just online discussion forums. I’ve seen pro Apple reviewers on YT mention it too.

I actually did adjust my mount to aim directly at my face (I could see myself in it like a mirror). But it seems there's also a distance limitation for the FaceID. I had to lean in 8-9 inches each time to get it to unlock which I don't prefer to do while in the car.
