Hopefully it comes today but I have not heard a single hint since the hype a couple of weeks back

Have you been paying attention To John Prosser at all? He’s mentioned it multiple times, specifically mentioning that it would be right around this time frame, when he initially projected it might be slightly earlier than mid April.

Indeed.
Given the information he has been privy to, if it doesn't come today, then it will have been pulled at short notice, perhaps even specifically in frustration at the leak of the release information to John!

If it doesn't come today, Prosser's record will be in ruins and the media will have a field day quoting him and his inaccurate "leaks". If it does come today, he'll probably not get a single mention lol.

Bolded: That’s an inherently false statement. Prosser’s record is not coming ‘to ruins’ regardless. Could we say the same thing about Ming Kuo who has been wrong multiple times in the past, yet he’s the most reliable/consistent analyst in the world, and has his record ‘in the ruins’? Absolutely not.

Every analyst/insider has been wrong, miscalculated or off-base with their predictions, it doesn’t make them unreliable when they have direct inside resources to Apples manufacturing/timetable launches or configurations of net worth/quarterly earnings.

Okay, let me re-word it... The media and his haters will make him out to be unreliable, make him into memes and bad mouth him and his channel across the internet.
Yes others have got plenty wrong, however they don't go on record saying that their dates were to be trusted and make almost daily posts about others being wrong and his word being the one to be trusted.

I've nothing against him btw, and I enjoy his videos. But a lot of people are taking his info seriously, if it's wrong, a lot won't bother in future. Regardless of the circumstances. Not saying that they should do that though.

I don't think Prosser has helped himself by his interaction with other tech sites/analysts on Twitter (9to5Mac comes to mind). Comes off as a bit childish (at least to me), so wouldn't be surprised if they took the opportunity to point it out if he was wrong...

Anyway, feel like it'll be a moot point as we'll see the 9/SE in half an hour. Too much smoke for there to be no fire.

Mostly because it's something "new" from Apple and because it will be affordable.

It’s really easy ‘to point the finger‘ when these analysts are wrong, but then again, how many of these analysts are actually more right than they are wrong? We still have to look at the fact, there are very few analysts that have inside information direct to Apple, he’s one of them and has been fairly consistent, but perfection is not expected.

even if they go after him, it will give him boost in popularity

and it's not like he had zero record, he had a lot of leaks that materialize in the past

this one out of the many he got right wont do damage to him and if those media go after him, they are doing him a favor for publicity.

because it is cheap and there's a big market for cheap iPhone outside this forum or flagship buyers.

It does seem weird, huh.

However... if the 30-month old iPhone 8 is an acceptable entry-level iPhone today... wouldn't a refreshed model with updated internals be better?

Apple has two choices:
  1. Keep selling the old iPhone 8
  2. Release a refreshed model
Apple (apparently) is doing the latter. We'll know soon enough.

Well we will find out in the next half an hour if the Apple store goes down...

If not, I guess it could be later today. Or it could be the same as the original SE update - it never actually existed! (joking).

It's a less expensive iPhone with (reportably) shares many of the same internals of it's more expensive cousins, and will perform many of the same tasks. Just because this isn't for you doesn't mean many others aren't interested.
