That is a very, very impressive demo. Yes, the lines will now be even longer. I don't need mine that day so I'm ordering online to avoid the line. :)

but... but... but... You won't be one of the cool kids on June 29th.

This is a sweet video....Man i wish i coukd throw out my SE p990i out the window NOW! Me want iphone!!!  too bad we wankers here in europe have to wait till the turn of the century to be able to buy one!

I admit I've been hoping to hold out until Rev 2 (with 16 gb, and any bugs fixed)...but this video may make me change my mind.

I showed about 5 minutes of the video to a few co-workers...one techie, the others, not...and they were all amazed. 2 of the 3 seemed willing to spend that much money...of course they then started speculating on how long until Sony or someone else makes something as good or better...

Great marketing!!!

I am hoping the space between the top twelve and bottom four applications, is a place to put "terminal.app", god please let there be a terminal. :)

Amen!! And it's not like they couldn't run it in a chroot jail in order not to compromise the security fo the phone. With that and built-in SSH..... oh the mind boggles. :D

Oh the wonder that is apple...

So I know this is a bit off subject but in preparation of the iphone i was updating my address book. All was well and I was very pleased with how organized my address book was. So then I thought... "hey I should sync with my RAZR to get my phonebook up to date"

Unfortunately this turned out to be a bad idea since my Altell RAZR only sorta works and I ended up losing nearly half my contacts. (the phone changed the setting on my address book and I lost everything both on my phone and my computer)

But then I just remembered (after watching the video again) that itunes has my contacts in it too (and therefore was synced with my ipod that I haven't uploaded since the mistake)...

So all that to say I didn't lose my contacts after all...thanks to my ipod.

Bring on the iphone. I'm ready to ditch Alltel and my RAZR. :D

On the launch day there was a graphic of the iPhone connected to iTunes which showed the preference tabs - Personal, Ringtones, Music, Videos, Podcasts and Photos. Surely you could then set your ringtone from your music library?

Overall, great into.

Great was going to wait for this....

Thanks :apple: now I really want one...and I was going to wait till xmas present to myself....arg and a 23 in monitor is calling me too, AHH what to do?

And THOSE HEADPHONES!!!

Wow, navigation even

It would be very simple for Apple to get the iPhone to talk to one of the Bluetooth GPS antennas out there. I carry one in the car with me always. That way, the phone *would* know where it is. That would have navigation covered for areas with data connections.

Preload the maps and it's a full navigation system.

Apple has just built an entirely new platform. It's more than a phone.

And my fair-use data plan here in Europe is totally ready for it! :)

...no calendar demo? Umm, that is strange. As a business user, I'm not so sure why they hid that... (I do realize it was a teaser, but seemed concentrated on people who just hang out).

That's the #1 reason I use smartphones...and I want an iPhone...but will it suffice?

iPhone available at Walmart??

Does anyone know when the iPhone will become available through AT&T's partners?
I ask because I'd be setting up new service for 2 lines, and Walmart.com has the BEST prices on earth for phones (huge rebates) and I'd save $50 to $100 on my 2nd phone if I can order it from there.
I've heard a lot about the iPhone selling at Apple stores and AT&T stores, but what about AT&T 3rd party partners? If not at launch, then when?
THanks!

Yeah, but the iPhone won't work with iSync. Does anyone else think that is crazy? Like no MMS. Why on earth not? (And no, "just email" is not an answer re the MMS issue - not everyone carries an email enabled phone and the point of MMS is phone to phone)

But aren't most cell phones SMS enabled? My 5 year old Sprint Sanyo does. That's how I communicate with most of my friends.

Check this out. They made a sort of map of the iPhone menus taken from the guided tour.

Apple stated very clearly that the phone cannot be sold for a discount.

I don't want the iPhone for a discount, i want to buy it at Walmart.com so that I can get a discount on my SECOND (i.e wife's) phone.

Are the headphones and the whole incoming call scheme reminiscent of that less that popular iTunes/Moto model. The ads where the girl was rocking out and then cuts straight to a call popped into my head... but it seems Apple worked out the kinks from the old headphones (volume control, limited remote)

I was already sold before I saw this Vid. even though people are bashing it on CNBC everyday, which my dad watches and he says "your not getting one now because they say it's bad" me: "Dad, No one has one yet, except Mossberg!, CNBC know's ****!"

Technophobic Parents have no clue!

I'll prove them wrong well technically 6 days from now.

That headset is mighty sweet, screw bluetooth. I love :apple:

At least not at the beginning. It will be sold only at Corporate AT&T stores and Apple Stores as well as Apple store online. Not Walmart.

I'm a mixed business/personal user, and I want an iPhone very much.

However, I'm struggling with the idea of losing functionality that works beautifully on my Treo 680.

My Treo syncs perfectly with Now Up-to-Date for a shared home/business calendar where I can see events from the dozen or so users Win/Mac cross-platform users, per my configuration.Good calendar and to-do's with my next calendar event shown on main screen, etc. iPhone will only handle iCal, and we've still seen nothing of how events and to-do's are handled, or will integrate with other functions.

Same story on contacts - I've currently got access to my company's shared contacts database - clients, prospects, staff, and then my own and my wife's personal shared contacts. Not especially well-integrated, but functional.

TuSSH - nuff said.

True push mail via IMAP-IDLE on Chatteremail, which works with my various IMAP accounts (but not my .Mac account, because they don't support IDLE!).

Plus a half-dozen special-use apps (tides and currents, and a variety of other goodies - plus a calculator!)

So while my Treo is fat, heavy, ugly, doesn't feel very good in the hand, has an interface that's not horrific - but really showing its age, crashes all the time, battery barely lasts a day in moderate use, and is generally flawed, it's actually massively functional.

The iPhone is gorgeous, beautiful, skinny, and just wants to be touched. But how much am I willing to give up? IMAP-IDLE and some kind of SSH access will probably be enough... but the calendar thing is going to be a problem.

You might WANT a Terminal on iPhone for your own bizarre reasons, but HOPING for it is like hoping that iPhone comes with a free Mac Pro.

Not necessarily agree it is 1000% not going to be there on day 1. But 12 months from now when there is more and more pressure to put more apps (even full fat 3rd party apps) on the iPhone there will be some sort of sysadmin tool collection native to the iphone. You can after all use a Terminal Server tool from an MS smart-phone, so why not terminal/ssh/vnc from an iphone. Once Apple has satisfied the mainstream no doubt it will start to address the detailed requirements of the niches.

I hope so!

PS: I wonder if Apple are taking the same approach with the iPhone as they did with the AppleTV. I.e it is a seemingly closed system which is extremely easy to "hack" into when connected to a Mac/PC (not to be confused with the phone itself being non-secure when in free standing mode). In other words Apple made the AppleTV very easy for the technically minded to gain FULL access to the system and create mods. How about the same for the iPhone. I'll wager ($10 max!) that is will happen within 48 hours of the device going on sale.
