I am sold!
I want an iPhone!!!!:D

I just hope AT&T (Cingular) improved their coverage in San Diego. Bye, bye Verizon!

I completely agree with this one. I wonder if it is a feature they just didn't go over....seems like every phone I've ever owned was able to have different profiles.

I've seen that before, but what's the difference between all those options? If you don't want it to ring, put it on vibrate. simple. If you want it to ring then set the volume at your preference. simple. Did I miss something?

Bleh...this is all awesome and all...but when iPhone Linux matures, it will be awesome. They've done great things with a limited iPod (see iPodLinux) and could do great things with this (here's hoping to S/NES emulators, VoIP, and some games)

maybe i missed it....

something i know a lot of my students and i admit myself use often on our cell phones is the ability to have "ringer id". I have many ringtones that i use for different people. It's nice to hear the phone ring across the room and know who it is that is calling. (Lets me know if I really want to rush over and pick up the phone or just let voicemail pick it up).

Is this a feature we didn't see on the iphone? It's not that big of a deal but it seems like that's a feature I use (and my students use) often.

And on a side note... I really shouldn't have watched this video... I was really planning on waiting to the 2nd revision (you know the hope for gps, 8 gb/ 16 gb flash, 3G etc)...but it's making me wanting it more and more... as someone said earlier... "wallet...getting...heavier..."

Simple one button switching. Let's say I'm in a bar - I'm gonna want vibrate AND ring loud. At work - quiet ring. Movies - vibrate only. Home - medium volume ring.

Rather than digging through the settings option to change the volume, if you could hit the silent/ring button and scroll through a few options, that would be ideal. Of course with all the other stuff this phone can do, I think if choosing between vibrate and ring only (at a set volume) was my biggest gripe, I could live with it.

maybe someone can get in touch with the folks over at smash my iphone, if they get enough money, and ask them for the smashed results to do a little look into the guts. I sure am not brave enough to open up the device to see what is inside...

the fact that people will donate money to buy a brand new $500 phone just to see it SMASHED, is a clear sign of whats wrong with society.

I think the fact that the site seems pretty old (6 months I would would say since it refers to a launch at Macworld) and the amount donated is still only $1 (probably by a rival mobile manufacturer CEO preparing to donate his 2007 bonus) says just as much. That there are minorities/individuals within society who are mad, but that the vast majority are relatively sane. Even in the US :)

PS: Just watched the presentation on my AppleTV (Why does Apple not put this stuff directly on AppleTV streaming?). Amazing. Can't wait until the iphone comes out over here in the UK. By then all the teething problems should be ironed out and it will be even better!.

PPS:I'm guessing that there will be a continual stream of feature news between now and 29th to build up the head of steam on the marketing frenzy. Every day more and more of the anti-iphone reasoning is being undermined.

Wow, my iPhone-needing urges had died away a little, but after watching that guided tour, I really need one... And us Europeans have to wait several more months still... :(

No Excel support

As far as I can see, this video makes no mention of Excel support. It only shows support for Word and PDF - the chart you see is a PDF, not an Excel file.

I wouldn't be surprise if it does support Excel, since QuickLook supports this in Leopard, but I don't think that this video confirms it.

The silence and volume buttons are on the side of the iPhone

Yes, each contact can have their own "ringer"

He SAYS excel support. That means it HAS excel support. he didn't show the viewfinder.app either, does that mean the iphone can't take pictures? no

Can someone tell me why would anyone want to replace the battery on their phone??

There is "replaceable" and "easily user replaceable".

Rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time. There seems to be a lot of variability here. Having the option to replace these aging batteries would be good (and I am sure you will be able to take your iPhone into an Apple or AT&T store and have them replace it).

The "easily user replaceable" batteries are for people who are road warriors with heavy phone use. They just want to carry a spare battery or two and swap it in as their battery is dying. They don't want to worry about being tethered to a wall waiting for their phone to recharge or worry about carrying electrical converters while travelling oversease.

I've never known anyone to do this, but I hear this is a "must have" capability for power users. It is funny to be at an airport and see everyone clustered around the few power outlets recharging their laptops, phones, and iPods.

So what about people who want some nice 3rd party headphones, AND that cool button thing? Add on?

Have you checked that? I just listened to it again, and unless I'm being stupid (quite possible) I really don't think he says any such thing!

So I guess you weren't listening, then. He said it has Excel support. ;)

OK, my wife just watched the video and that definitely re-confirms we will be buying 2 on Friday, not one. She said she now actually feels more comfortable that she knows how to use all the features of the iPhone versus the 25% of features she uses on her current phone. The interface is just brilliant.

Yes, I would love to have the patience to wait until iPhone II. And I applaud those of you who have the strength to do it. But I can't live with my blackjack any more after seeing that video. Using it one more week is painful enough!

This interface on the blackjack (Windows Mobile) is simply pathetic compared to what Apple has dreamed up.

So, is it the 29th yet???

That Video Is Pure Gold

I have to admit that until I just finished watching that video I really didn't understand just how amazing an iPhone really is. Gotta admit having the internet in my pocket as well as an advanced video iPod does make me want one. But I'm afraid it will cost about $100 a month for the privilege. Until I know how much it costs, I think my wanting one and wanting to pay the high fee to run one will probably not be compatible values. I am also a Verizon user and don't want to run with AT&T in the middle of my 2 contract. Perhaps in another year when my contract expires I'll feel differently.

Meanwhile bring on the 120GB 640x320 Full Screen Video iPod ASAP please.

Sorry, I missed it, he says it in the introduction to the e-mail section, and I was listening to the demo.

Still - you could have been a little more friendly in your reply, appleintelrock. ISMPlus was at least humorous :)

These are the notes I made when watching the video...

ringtones - preset only, can't use songs. How to add new?
That's been discussed here already. If I've bought a song I don't want to pay again to make it a ringtone. I can make any MP3 or MIDI file a ringtone on my Treo 650 (2-1/2 yrs old) so I hope they add this soon. Charging for ringtones is so damned lame.

email - 15m 30m 1hr - no 5 minutes!
I have my Treo and mail.app set to check email every five minutes. I do hope they add a 5-minute option. Yes it eats the battery faster, but I need info faster. This one really bothers me.

no voice dialing
I hope they add this soon. This is a major missing feature (missing near as I can tell).

locking if lost?
I didn't see a way to lock the phone, requiring a password when turned on. I don't use this myself but many consider it critical.

wallpaper, not desktop picture
This struck me - they called it "wallpaper" - the Windows term - and not "Desktop Picture" - the Mac term.

Check out this YouTube video of Google's CEO showing off his iPhone:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=gh43LVJDCAg

It appears that he's entering a code of some sort after unlocking the iPhone. Perhaps there's an unannounced PIN/password feature?

...

No calculator... makes this phone useless. Gosh, the audacity of apple... who the hell do they think they are by not including a calculator? Do they assume that people can magically crank numbers out in their head? OMG, I think I'm forced to wait for Version Z; by then, Apple will figure out how to include an automatic toilet paper dispenser, as I absolutely need this critical and essential feature...

:D :rolleyes::rolleyes: :rolleyes: :D

dam, I am exactly in the same boat. The only diference is that my verizon is already expired and I am holding on upgrading my new phone.
The only issue I have with the iPhone is AT&T reception here in San Diego is, I think sucks.
I can't wait for the iPod 6g. but Apple will hold on until people like me decide to buy the iphone.

its not called a desktop picture because its not a desktop. simple.

But neither is it a wall, and there certainly is no paper involved.

I can see the marketing angle of making the Winblowers fell more are home though as they will need to attract many non-mac buyers to meet their global 1% goal. At this rate I think they will once the EOS kicks in and they are able to drop the price a bit.
