Cool iPhone, BUT....

I was impressed by the guided tour that makes me want to buy an iPhone, BUT the MAX hard drive memory is ONLY 8GB. To do all of this cool stuffs on the iPhone is going to require more than the 8GB. You know like music, photos, videos, emails, etc. I would like to see 40GB or 80GB, so I will wait for the iPhone's hard drive to reach the 40GB/80GB before I buy one.

A lot of the features are cool. Love them. Kudos to Steve Jobs for this iPhone. :)

That "End Call" button is right where my cheek would be....they didn't say if the touch screen is disabled when talking. Anyone know if this is how it will work?

they said that ages ago, when u are calling, a proximity sensor (infrared) sense the presence of your head and disables the touch screen.

If they do end up adding for more "apps" I really hope one of them is the "Quick Look" feature from Leopard! Lets you throw whatever files you want onto the phone (like using your iPod as a removable drive) and then anything QL is capable of viewing the iPhone would be ... that would be really great IMO.

i'm assume the most frustrating thing with the iPhone is going to be double tapping to enlarge a webpage... you also have to double tap a link, and i'm quite certain that when a user simply means to enlarge the page (like google search), it's going to accidentally goto a link instead, or vice-versa...

and that guy giving the guided tour is creepy... like pedophile-creepy... that's all...

no, links are single tap.

I am hoping the space between the top twelve and bottom four applications, is a place to put "terminal.app", god please let there be a terminal. :)

What is the current maximum storage capacity of every other smart phone on the market? 4GB at most, if you buy a big enough flash memory card.

The iPhone does not have a "hard drive". It has 4GB or 8GB of built-in flash memory, like an iPod nano. If you're holding out for a phone with 40-80GB of flash memory storage, you'll be sitting on the sidelines for quite some time.

And email won't be stored in the iPhone's flash memory at all: it resides on your mail server.

So no, the iPhone won't fully replace my full-sized iPod. But it will have enough capacity to hold a new songs and / or videos to keep me amused when I don't bother carrying my iPod with me.

after posting that video i'm surprised AAPL has still dropped today. how can you watch that and not be drooling by the end. i completely forget every gripe i had about the phone before today. 7 days is too long. that phone is iNcredible.

the whole nasdaq is dropping. microsoft is down by 3%, apple just .7

so in a way , it's a raise ;-)

i really enjoyed the guided tour. a lot of posters here were previously asking about the aeroplane mode, vibrate and the ability to read microsoft office documents. well, they're all there.

i really want one but i live in england so i'll have to wait patiently.

They didn't say it in the video but Steve Jobs did during the initial intro. It can tell when it is close to your face and disables the touch screen.

So watched it through a few more times and noticed that it doesn't really mention how you manage the wi-fi settings. I know that Steve said at Macworld that it'll automatically switch over to wi-fi whenever it detects a signal, but does anyone know if there will be something like a "use wi-fi only" option? I rack up quite the charge at the end of every month by accidentally pressing the browser key on my phone because data is notoriously expensive in Canada. I would hate to be charged everytime I accidentally press stocks, weather, youtube, etc.

Already confirmed from launch day... When the phone is held up to the face, the proximity sensor disables the touch screen.

doh... little late on the response :D

OK, I thought there was something like that. However the video assumes people know this and are addicted to all things Apple. The average Joe would probably wonder about that too. As a Treo user I have to either turn off the touchscreen during calls or leave it on. Since many of their potential consumers are Treo users I'm sure many will wonder the same thing. Its a pretty obvious question and simple to address (and in a way to add interest) so I'm surprised they didn't.

its incredibly easy. most people just dont even know they can do it.

Interesting. I've heard that the ringtone market is on the order of $3-5 billion! It is amazing that a market is that large but is easy to circumvent.

Oh well...

the porno market is even bigger, and you dont even need a computer for the alternative (but you do need another person, or a very good imagination :p )

are u SURE that u want a hard drive in a phone ??
scary idea.

The video made everything look so easy, but I noticed the time never changed on the iphone, so it could have easily been a video and not actual use.

It might be authentic... if you watch the large version, you can see the reflection of the hand on the surface of the phone.

Amazing how this one walkthrough is starting to change people's minds about its capabilities.

No, not even close. The 4 or 8 gb drive option that we've heard so much about is purely a flash drive for music, video, and photos. Exactly the same as it is on an iPod.

That drive will not get filled up with bookmarks, email, attachments, etc.. its not built that way.
