No one mentioned Internet speed in the iPhone Guided Tour. It is quite fast. However, if you pay attention, it looks like was using the WiFi, the little green radiation icon next to "AT&T" icon at the top. You can tell it is WiFi indicator from the "setting" section. Just wondering what speed would be using EDGE.

The voice mail of John Appleseed

I wonder what would come up if we called Mr. John Appleseed

408-550-3542

hmm...

Any takers?

I'm a taker!

The number routes you to voicemail, the message is as follows:

"Hi, you've reached the brand new iPhone of John Appleseed. For more information, got to apple.com."

area code 408 is Cupertino, for those (like me) who didn't know

Secret features.....

What if the secret features include the following:

Voice Recognition or Italk capabilities
Real Ichat and video conferencing
Anti-theft

So far the features look nice, but nothing that really makes a non-Apple fan wanna buy it.

I know TONS of people that aren't impressed, or think its too expensive.

Implementing a voice recognition a la Italk. Imagine never having to pick up the phone, say while your driving....but not only dial a number, but actually FULLY control it in every aspect. From creating and sending emails to dictating a document.

Imagine having a video conference, but a TRUE video conference, with Ichat like features!!!!!!!

And as rumored before, anti theft. The technology is already there.

So wait, there is support for Word and Excel files. So what about Pages and Keynote? I would hope that there is at least some reader functionality built in for pages, keynote would be a nice bonus.

I think what we are seeing here is a watered down version of the cover flow-ish way to look at documents from the let to be released OS-X. I doubt you will be able to do anything with the documents other than look at them. Also note that the word document they showed didnt have a whole lot of if any formatting done to it.

the directions and traffic features are awesome!!

Especially if you are travelling somewhere and hear about an accident on the radio. Your passenger just calls up Google Maps, gets a new route that avoids the traffic, and off you go.

I wonder when there will be the first accident because someone was using Google Maps on their iPhone while driving?

Apple did file a patent for a slide out keyboard a few months ago (or at least, that was when the patent surfaced). Just as the iPod has multiplied into many models for many niches, I could see some variants of the iPhone with a slideout keyboard.

I doubt it. Apple routinely gets patents for stuff they never use .... Maybe some other sort of micro-notebook or something, but not the iPhone. They seem to have the keyboard issue solved. :D

how is "find song, cut section i want (optional step), send file via bluetooth" too many steps?

It's more like:

1. Locate song

2. Import into Garageband

3. Cut down to appropriate clip and length

4. Export to AIFF audio file into iTunes

5. Open iTunes, find song

6. Convert AIFF file into MP3 file

7. Send song to phone over bluetooth

It is not too bad, but there is a lot of room for improvement there.

Monday: Battery Life & Screen
Wednesday: YouTube
Friday: New Website

i bet thats all you see for this week, and the plans revealing themselves on monday or wednesday of next week
Next Monday: Plans.
Wednesday: iTunes store on the phone.

the fact that people will donate money to buy a brand new $500 phone just to see it SMASHED, is a clear sign of whats wrong with society.
But the fact that they've only raised $1 so far (I just checked), is perhaps a better sign of what's right with society.

Especially if you are travelling somewhere and hear about an accident on the radio. Your passenger just calls up Google Maps, gets a new route that avoids the traffic, and off you go.

This would be great (since Google Maps can already show traffic congestion info), but Google maps needs to add an "Avoid Traffic" feature to their directions for this to work as smoothly as we want.

why the hell are you using some many steps? there are way better mp3 editors for os x that you can get for free besides garage band. you're making it way to hard.

1. find song
2. edit song (if you really even need to. i just usually transfer the whole song
3. transfer song by bluetooth.

One thing to note....

In the beginning, when he first demos NYT on Safari, we see aqua-style (not the matte gray style like we have seen on the iPhone previously) drop-down menus on the site, as well as the Flash content (NYT's media player).

This might suggest that he is scrolling through a screenshot taken on a computer.

When he returns to NYT later, we see the matte gray drop-down menus......and the Flash content.....odd.

Apple has previously said no Flash, but this is puzzling.

On the other hand, when they show Yahoo!, there's a blank spot where there is normally a Flash ad.

So I would still guess no Flash, but this video is inconsistent...

damn i'm not even half way through the video, and i'm totally blown away. i want one so bad!

how is "find song, cut section i want (optional step), send file via bluetooth" too many steps?

Well, some people might find it easy, and it might be much easier since I last saw it being done. However, I suspect if everyone found it easy to do, the $2.50 ringtone market would have been dead a long time ago.

The demonstrator stopped short of scrolling through all the settings, possibly to hide some undisclosed features?

Also has anyone else noticed that the square in the home button is the same shape and size of the built in isight cameras on the imac, macbook, and macbooks pros? Could there possibly be an ichat camera hidden in plain sight all this time? :)

i doubt it, if there is a hidden camera, it's behind the screen.

(but i don't believe in that either)

What I just thought of...

Can you imagine what it's going to be like to the non iPhone at&t user to get a simple phone call out with all of that congestion on the network when these buggers go live?!?!?!

Hell, sometimes its hard just to get a call out during rush hour on some networks...

why would you use GARAGEBAND just to grab a clip from a song?
and why would you export to AIFF and then convert to MP3/AAC?
and why import back into itunes?

why not,
1) find song
2) open song in WaveEditor/Quicktime/Fission/etc
3) copy desired section into new document, save/export as MP3/AAC
4) send to phone from finder.

this adds 1 step to what i said (if you count opening the app and doing the editing as two steps. i sure as hell dont.)

i think the main reasons a majority of people don't do this are:

1. most people are complete idiots when it comes to computers/electronics/their phone, and therefore have no idea it's possible and even if they didn't would have no idea how to do it.
2. most peoples free phones still do not have bluetooth and they certainly don't have data cables for them.

I'm doubting there will be more apps below the first 12. Yes, there is room for more, but I think it's just room because of course there will EVENTUALLY be more. I hope for more on release, but there will of course be more than 16. I bet to vew more, it'll be a flickah down on that menu, or something like the Wii has. And Hopefully all the wedgietestes will get grouped under one app (wonder if the little drip effect will be used when adding new apps)

Two things:

Loading Ringtones. So far there has not been one visual of the new iTunes interface. I cannot imagine nothing short of an overhaul with oodles of new features. So it would be reasonable to assume that the loading of ringtones will happen here.

The use of the term "Mobile Phone". When I worked for AT&T, we were told not to use the term "Cell Phone". We didn't want to confuse the customer with the phone company "Cellular One".

re the 16 apps - watch the video closely again.
He circles the area that is the home screen (12 app section), then says from 'here' you can use any one of the 16 apps. Then goes on to talk about the bottom.

I'm choosing to believe 4 more apps. :)

oh come on, stop that now :)

(he talks about the 16 apps, just after explaining what the home button is for)

Can't you edit a tracks starting and end point right in iTunes? That'd be a heck of a lot easier
