Great news about being able to view Word docs but does anyone know if it's possible to save them somewhere and access them through the Notes app, maybe?

That was a great video. I've been on the fence about the iPhone so far but, man, it's sure tempting. I'll let the early adopters have their way with it and then take another look at it. Maybe I don't need that Mac Mini after all...

Option to buy online?

At the bottom-right side of most of the gallery / info pages, there's a box for locating a nearby Apple or AT&T store. The box also has a grayed out section of text which may eventually be a link to buy one online: (Bold for Emphasis)
Example / Source URL:

I saw this, too. I'm pretty sure you can buy directly from Apple; this was discussed in earlier press releases/forum threads. Still have to go to AT&T to get it activated, though ... not sure what benefit there would be to buying from Apple, though ...

My only remaining concern is voice dialing. Nothing is mentioned. I'm assuming that is just because its so common there was no need to mention it.

Check the Water Supply

Watch again. It's confusing because he says it's easy to speed dial with one tap. Then he proceeds to demonstrate not FAVORITES but calling from the address book. When he moves to favorites, it's one tap.

And obviously the tap where you choose favorites doesn't count!

It's a well-done tour video.

My observations:
He said "Favorites is a great way to speed dial someone with just one tap." Then he showed how you do it, with three taps! (You tap Favorites, then +, then Johnny Appleseed.)

Hello? Johnny Appleseed was NOT in Favorites.
So he demonstrated how to add him to Favorites.
Once he is in the list, It's One Tap."

I think we need to check the drinking water in parts of the country (there may be some sort of an inhibitor in it).

Nope, cuz 2 megapixels is nothing to write home about.

Generally I agree (especially from a marketing point of view), but be careful of the megapixel myth. The lens is generally a more important feature than the number of pixels, and unless Apple wants to put a large lens on the iPhone (which I don't think they will do), I suspect anymore than 2 Megapixels would be a waste.

I think I browsed the whole thread and didn't see it mentioned: in the QTVR, doesn't that look like a paperclip-operated SIM slot on top?

That's my hope too. Like the way Notes on an iPod can view text, hypertext, images, audio clips, and video.

I want to be able to browse the iPhone's storage and view any supported document or image. GREAT for referring to past business proposals, reference info, etc..

They should hook this into Garageband. Make your own ringtones, or edit songs to make ringtones.

I'm sure they will sell ringtones in iTunes for the iPhone. I've heard ringtones can go for lots of money. If iTunes charges $.99 for them, it could disrupt the whole ringtone industry.

yeah no reason to charge more for a ringtone than it costs to buy the actual song, eh?

[Edit] Perhaps ringtones are only cheaper on an iPhone plan. They stay at whatever they are at now for all other phone, thus not ruining AT&Ts ringtone revenue and promoting iPhone sales

So wait, there is support for Word and Excel files. So what about Pages and Keynote? I would hope that there is at least some reader functionality built in for pages, keynote would be a nice bonus.

the battery will NOT be replaceable. jesus ***** christ.

Correction: the battery will DEFINITELY be replaceable. Possibly officially replaceable, but by 3rd parties if not. It will just not be EASY for a user to do themselves, and the preferred method will be to take it to an Apple Store.

Carrying spares will not be an option. However, external booster batteries will be (probably some built into cases, too). They'll add bulk to carry, but so does carrying spare batteries.

yah, an irreplaceable battery would be disastrous from a marketing perspective ...

Apple clearly made a point in the video to address the dreaded keyboard issue that has been the biggest complaint so far.

I picked up on that too. The message: Don't judge the virtual keyboard from your initial experience -- give it a week.

Side note: Apple did file a patent for a slide out keyboard a few months ago (or at least, that was when the patent surfaced). Just as the iPod has multiplied into many models for many niches, I could see some variants of the iPhone with a slideout keyboard.

Yes, I really hope the .doc / .xls / .pdf viewer is available in other apps besides Mail, and allows for local storage of said files. I'm a pretty heavy user of Documents To Go on my Palm and this would make me very happy indeed. Would love to have the edit / sync capabilities that DocsToGo provides, but I guess I could live without.

The video briefly mentions the camera but never shows how to use it nor does it show a camera application. That black space on iphone displays is the perfect size for four more apps - at least an application for using the camera has to be somewhere on the phone.

look again, it's there on the first row.
