Anyone find it odd that they glanced over the camera itself, and use... I'm wondering if it doesn't have video at all. Especially since there is no section for it....

Anyone know where the camera lens is? I'm guessing on the back, but they didn't demo it ... I doubt the button is the lens since you'd have to turn the thing around to take pics .. awkward.

maybe someone can get in touch with the folks over at smash my iphone, if they get enough money, and ask them for the smashed results to do a little look into the guts. I sure am not brave enough to open up the device to see what is inside...

I am reminded of the "perfect storm" of consumer marketing that Computerworld believed Microsoft was delivering for the Zune last year--thus, supposedly, making Apple very afraid :p

http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=printArticleBasic&articleId=9003718

Now, what Apple & AT&T have gradually played up for a half a year--THAT is a perfect storm.

PS, I don't like that hand model. I prefer the tree-frog hands they use in their patents.

PPS, I really hope it can read PDFs, HTML pages, and other documents stored on the thing's internal HD. THAT would be great--I'd store tons of useful info for business and pleasure.

Yeah, from a marketing standpoint, Apple is doing a great job with the iPhone. They're managing the hype by consistantly revealing more and more about the product as launch date approaches instead of just spewing everything two months ago. The online guide is great - it's another tool for teaching people about the iPhone and building hype.

I still believe one of the biggest reasons the Zune essientially failed is because MS went after the wrong iPod. They should have targeted the iPod mini/nano market and not the 5th Gen. They could have uncut the nano on price, offered cool colors (brown, wtf?), focused on making a thin product and dropped the wifi sharing. The Zune is a classic case of what happens when engineers design a product (no offense to any engineers :) )

the 2 meg pixel camera in on the upper left side of the back of the phone.

Wonder if you can lock it or delete the contact info if you lose it. And will it dock with existing third-party peripherals (iPod clock, portable speakers, etc.)?

jfkdasklfadklsfjsdfkdsjf not bad not bad. that narrator / whatever guy was kind of annoying though.

16 apps - ?

The video briefly mentions the camera but never shows how to use it nor does it show a camera application. That black space on iphone displays is the perfect size for four more apps - at least an application for using the camera has to be somewhere on the phone.

Ringtone for $.99? The same price as a regular song? That seems kind of pricey to me...

It is pricey from the iTunes perspective, but it is cheap from the wireless phone perspective. The industry has been selling song fragments for $2.50-$3.00 for many years.

I read yesterday that one of the major carriers (not AT&T) just dropped their ringtone prices from $2.50 to $0.99; the article cited pressures from the iPhone.

Unless I'm wrong (or forgot about this feature being already detailed), it seems you can scroll out with two fingers making a downward swipe, just like you would on an Apple trackpad for a notebook. That's really cool and helpful, especially since I've caught myself try to scroll like that on pc notebooks lately... :) By the way, I saw this (or think I did) at right around the 9:00-9:10 mark, when he zooms out of the map (I believe it's centered on the satellite view of the apple campus).

Lemme know what you think!

I think one of the coolest features that has been overlooked is the traffic feature. I live in a very populated suburb, so know what roads to take, and which ones to avoid is a huge plus for me. If that thing is accurate, I would pay $600 just for the feature alone.

Sure, you need to have a starting location and a destination location, but it does provide turn by turn directions, although it doesn't know where you are. However it's better than not having turn by turn directions at all!

Well, yeah, but anyone's been able to do that on Google maps, or a dozen other sites for years. Everyone I know with a smart phone is constantly using Google maps, eBay, looking up restaurant reviews, etc.

I just finished watching it, and now I want one so bad I can't stand it!

Me too. I'm drooling now. Seriously, I have family coming to town, but they might have to tour New York alone until I get my iPhone.

Dang, it looks like you can't select your own ringtone... unless there's some option in a forthcoming iTunes that lets you add your own.

Very cool about the Excel and Word doc reading!

I'm sure you will eventually be able to make your own ringtone, put it in iTunes, and it will sync straight to that list of ringtones on the iPhone.

Unless I missed it, there's nothing to indicate the ability to set a song as a ringtone.

Has there been anything publicized about the iPhone to suggest that you can use your iPod music as a ringtone?

That has been a big issue/concern/question for a while. Of course, you may want only part of the song, especially if the songs start quiet and slow and then builds.

If Apple makes it trivial to connect Garage Band to your iTunes-ringtone section to your iPhone, then I can see an explosion of personal ring tones. Some people do this already, but it takes too many steps.

the fact that people will donate money to buy a brand new $500 phone just to see it SMASHED, is a clear sign of whats wrong with society.

only when you buy it then you can be like " huh i dont know where that place is either but thats ok cuz i got my iphone!"

how is "find song, cut section i want (optional step), send file via bluetooth" too many steps?

Also has anyone else noticed that the square in the home button is the same shape and size of the built in isight cameras on the imac, macbook, and macbooks pros?

This has been mentioned a few times. I would be concerned about the effects of the concave glass of the button on the view and the fact that every time you touch the home button you leave your fingerprint on the lens.
