I think iPhone 16E is every bit worth $599

EXTREMELY LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER.png

A few points:

1. Nowhere did Apple say "budget" in their marketing, nor do I expect them to do so at any time.
2. Inflation and the lack of automatic carrier subsidies mean this is still a better deal than $499 was for the original iPhone.
3. An iPhone built to a lower price point would be considered useless, as it would have similar specs to a 2-3 year old flagship iPhone. This one has been updated where it counts (screen, Face ID, processor, USB-C) to differentiate it from just buying a 13 or 14.
4. "Not for me" is not the same as "not for anyone."
There aren’t many prospective buyers for this phone. They’ve left entrants and small phone enthusiasts in the dust.

For most, the base flagship is still better value.

As an SE3 user, we’ve been given the screw job like the Mac Pro users were. Unloved for their passion for the smaller phone.

Why is Apple making a mess of us like Samsung
The discounted iPhone should be called iPhone SE 4 or iPhone Air (like all of Apple's entry-level models)
And the slim iPhone should be called iPhone 17 Slim
Apple, you have disappointed me
Only the Air suffix was not meant for entry-level models neither are "all of apple's entry-level models called that; and neither are all their Air products entry-level (think of the iPad Air).

Yes, it’s hard to know who this phone is for. It’s very expensive for the budget conscious and if that’s not an issue why wouldn’t you buy the 16?

According to rumors the Pixel 9a will start at $499 and have better specs than the 16e, like more peak brightness, 120hz refresh rate, bigger battery, better WiFi.

The jump from the 16e to 16 is $230 or around 38%. If the 16e is for the "budget conscious" but the 16 is not, why wouldn't 16 buyers just buy the 16 Pro which is even less of a jump (only $170 or around 20%) over the 16?

Pixel phones, especially when they are put on sale which seems to be pretty regularly, are often a fair amount cheaper than iPhones yet iPhones continue to have a significantly greater market share than Pixel.

Even the pixel 9a is a tough sell given you can get the normal pixel 9 for the same price or less.

Here in the UK they're around£400 new and aside from the missing telephoto I'd argue they're on the same level as the £950 16 pro.

Regardless of the MR prejudice against Google, Android is refining itself each year while iOS adds more useless gimmicks and a pile of bugs to go with them.

Home screen, keyboards, settings, app switcher and control centre:
iOS and Android have become remarkably similar in look and feel.

Although I have to say, iOS feels a bit clunky compared to Android’s swipe-back gesture.

I haven’t used Android so can’t compare it to iOS but it sure seems like the cameras on Android phones are as good if not better than iPhone.

Agreed, apple are literally stealing money.

You can grab a Pixel 9 for 50% less than an iPhone 16e and it's a significantly better phone in almost every way. iPhone wins when it comes to hard core mobile gaming performance if that's what you're into.
A lot of people are just uninterested in android, period. I am one of them.

A $2000 big screen TV from 2007 should be over 3000 now if you consider inflation and ignore technology advances and moores law but I can see big screen TVs over the holiday season going for under $500.

any tv < US$500 is absolute garbage and not worth buying

a really nice modern big screen tv in 2025 is - US$1500 - 2000

so all in all a bit cheaper than your 2007 price sure, but not enough to make your point

Every time I see iPhone prices mentioned there’s always comments mentioning you can get an android phone for cheaper. Yeah and you know what an android phone doesn’t have? iOS and its features. It also doesn’t have Apple support.

Some people want an iPhone and if that means paying $200 extra for all of the things you can’t get on an android phone then maybe it’s worth it for that person.

Of course, if you live in a country making $100 a month then you’re stuck with android or maybe an old iPhone. I don’t see Apple ever being competitive in those markets.

This is very condescending attitude. Even thinking that people who buy android are people those who cannot afford Apple products is wrong. The maximum share apple iphone has in any country is 60%. Max share of Mac is about 30% in any country. We should respect the choices of the people.

People with $100 monthly income use their phone more. They don't have several devices for internet access and their phone is a tablet, PC, phone for call/sms and a TV. They expect a lot from their from and a $150 phone meets their expectations. It is an engineering marvel that companies have developed a device to serve them.

Can also find refurbished iPhone 15 Pro 256gb in near new or as new condition for around the same price as a 16e…

Blame inflation caused by obamacare, bidenomics, psyop pandemics and related draconian measures that have killed economy, as well as the other populist 💩.

Also do not forget: for these 600$ it offers much more:

- still single camera but 48mp vs 2mp no-AF no flash
- YUUUGE display size (which I personally dislike and want smaller phone)
- Face ID vs passwords
- 8gb vs 512gb max storage
- almost no apps vs thousands of applications
- 128mb RAM vs 8GB

And so and so on. Together with inflation price doesn’t sound way too bad. I hope build quality stands up to the price as well, older SEs had horrendous quality

Why are you comparing the iPhone 16e to iPhone 1, why not iPhone 15?

As someone who rarely comments in here, this is the most confusing post I’ve seen in many months or years.

What the actual…….

Inflation is a thing. The 16e is an absolute bargain. I’m gobsmacked at the low price.

How does one consumer (you) have such wildly different opinion to another (me). Interesting 😂
