Quick update.

Ok, update guys, I ran the phone with the macenstein dead/stuck pixel test..I have at least 10 stuck pixels..this phone is going back!!!
Grrrrrrr I hate being a perfectionist.
No Apple Store in Portland, OR.

I'm still going strong with my original 5 series iPhone with no issues. I'm starting to think after reading these posts, that people might be interested in buying my iPhone for the pristine 5 series screen, no dead pixels, no bubbles, no light leakage and that it's had a screen protector on since day 1.

How much do you think I could get for it?

Let me see...

Well I know for sure, nothing from me...still have 14 days to exchange all I want, and frankly I'll be telling them this today at the store, if they can't find me a 5 with no screen problems, might as well return the phone and call it 'not up to my standards of quality' till a rev. B or so.

I am starting to feel the same way ... :(

mine is the 7-series, it also has dot, but it's only visible when i turn the brightness fully, look at the front, it's not really visible if you're not paying attention, but if you look closely you can see a little bit. when i turn the phone sideway, i can see the dot very clearly. i don't know if i should exchange it or not since i don't like the full brightness. i set it to about 40%, also i bought it from AT&T store, if i'm gonna exchange it, do i got to apple store or AT&T? BTW, my phone is over 14 days, can i still exchange it then?

Let me get this right. You have no problem with the phone and the dots ONLY bug ya at full brightness so you want to return it?

I'm starting to think half the peple returning them are JUST because its a 7 series. As pointed out many times, not all 7 series are bad - only some have very visible dots all the time at any brightness.

I guess I wasn't clear earlier, I wasn't planning to return it unlessy the screen will get worse later, that's the only thing I'm afraid. If it's gonna stay like this forever then I wouldn't even bother. I bought this for $600+ tax, of course I want it to be perfect. And i don't really care if my phone is 7 or 5, as long as it's perfect then i'm happy.

I'd be wary of changing phones if you're relatively happy with the one you've got. I'm already on my 3rd and others have had to replace multiple times. If the only problem is the dots and you can't even notice them unless it is at full brightness and some weird angle, I'd leave well enough alone. You might end up with one with brighter dots and a black piece that moves around or a battery that doesn't work.

I second that. I got replacement from AppleCare which was waaayyy worse white dots than the original one, got exchanged again at Apple Store and 7** again with visible dots, dusts under glass and moving black piece. I'm waiting for another replacement.

And guess what? The one I have originally was the best!! Very minor dot issue, but not visible much unless 100% brightness. If you are happy with the one you have now, don't replace it!!!

Amen. I replaced my first one due to a stuck pixel. Second one was a pile of crap with dots that showed up even at lowest brightness, a moving black piece that stuck out and caught on my clothes, a misaligned bezel, and usage stats that wouldn't work. 3rd phone has about 8 noticeable stuck pixels, but with all the horror stories, I'm afraid to return it. Other than that it's fine. Moral of the story: My first iPhone was the best but I was so picky that I ended up with one worse.

My screen is a 7 and based on this tread I was disappointed that my device is considered by many to be fundamentally defective as a result. Of the three other people I know with iPhones, all of them have 7’s and they all look roughly the same (minor variations in max brightness aside). Upon close inspection I did see the faint dots on all four screens. I have been reading up on the issue to see what my options are to have this corrected and get the superior 5 screen.
Last night I stopped by an AT&T store to see if they had the Apple BT Headset, they didn’t, but I did notice that they had two iPhones on display. I quickly boosted their brightness to max and looked for dots. The dots were nearly impossible to see. I dialed *3001#12345#* and confirmed that they were in fact both 5’s. Finally I could see what I was missing! A friend and I spent about five minutes looking at both screens comparing to my 7 side by side. The first thing I noticed was the black-level was much brighter on the 5 making blacks look grey by comparison while the whites were more dull. This compressed color range on the 5’s made them look washed out compared to the rich color of my 7. As a side note the 5’s had more of a cold hue (bluish) then the 7. I’m not sure which screen is more color accurate, but subjectively the range on the 7 resulted in a sharper look for application use.
The result – according to my tastes (and my friends and employees at the store) my 7 was clearly preferred despite the existence of dots.
Maybe these were lower quality 5s. Maybe my 7 is particularly good. In any case I am very happy with my 7 and based on my side by side comparisons would not trade it for a 5.
If you haven’t already, my advice is to compare your screens firsthand before you let yourself believe something is wrong with your phone. If after comparing you still want a 5, than do what you feel you need to. For me I can consider this issue closed knowing that for my tastes, my screen is as good as the best that I have seen.

Just to add to the fire...

I have version 7. I have white dots that come on about 5 seconds into the booting process and stay throughout use.

I sent it in for repair on the 25th and they sent it back with 'no errors found'.

I've already read on apple's discussion board a couple posts that claim that AppleCare phone support is currently telling customers that it is known, but not a defect.

I assume a pending software update will alleviate any issues on all phones.

I just replaced my 5* screen iPhone with a 7* screen iPhone today
(speaker broke).
I have to say this whole thread is a bunch of bull.
The new iPhone, yes that POS 7* screen one (according to this thread :) )
is MUCH better. There is no grid or anything visible, but everything looks
much better and sharper. The biggest difference is seen looking at my
photos. The old iPhone was dull and had a blueish cast, the new one seems to be
much better, and the colors are much more accurate.
I downloaded some of my pictures to my iPhone to be able to show to people
(I'm a photographer) and now it finally makes sense.
Not sure if the newest 7* screen iPhones are improved, but don't
have any issue described here....

I had posted this same opinion earlier in this thread. I think it is important to repost, in order to help those with-out the "big issue" 7******. If there are lesser quality 7****'s, they exist in small numbers. I also heavily encourage those with doubts about there 7's quality to compare them at an Apple store or At&t (also has floor models). Don't just compare miniscule dots versus even less obvious dots, but look at the full color spectrum. The 7***** is more accurate and broad in colors.

Please be happy with your iPhone!:)

I just want you to know I love my iPhone, but there is a definite problem with it, and paying $650 for a phone I want it to be perfect. The white dots make everything worse, including viewing pictures and movies. They make things appear grainy and unrefined. This is why I want a new phone, I wouldn't care if the dots didn't effect anything, but when they effect the what product is capable of then its reason for return.

First - I must say that for $650 one can not expect perfection. There is a phone company that makes phones by hand our of the finest materials. I wish I recall the name, but they start at about $4,500. At this price, you get perfection.

The iPhone is instead mas-produced. Apple has gotten great at producing well crafted products with tight tolerances - starting with the good old Titanium Powerbook, but there are always "tolerances".

So perfection is not going to happen. For example, a lot of phones have the screen shifted slightly to the left at the top. Just look at the recessed edge of the glass screen where it meets the chrome edge is. You almost need a feeler gauge, but its there.

So for those who say "I want perfection, I paid.....", well its not going to happen and I wish people would stop saying it!

BUT I totally agree that, at this level, obvious problems should not exist. Apple has a reputation for perfection driven design. Problems will always show up after mass-production.

In this case, Jobs and team brag about the quality of the screen saying how clear and amazing it is and how you have to see it to believe it. Having dots across the screen is not only far from acceptable, but to have a support team say its normal is outright wrong.

So yes, all phones seem to have it and most wont notice. But for the few that DO have the problem as bad as photos show and get shot down left and right by Apple, well, I can understand you frustration.

Its a great phone. Go INTO an Apple store if you can for exchange is the dots are that bad. Look at you new phone BEFORE you leave. A few have said they look at it after they get home - I don't understand why. You will get you want and when you do you will be happy and never look back.

Remember, you have a year to get it fixed since it falls under the category of poor workmanship. So if you getting nowhere and can put up with it for a month or two, then do so and try exchanging later, one might have better luck.

Is it a big conspiracy?

What is up with some of you! LOL Clearly the above poster is a PC user or a republican! j/k

As stated MANY MANY MANY times, there is a problem with a FEW screens and the ones that have this "really annoying" white dot screen thing are all 7 series. The 5 series seems to be unaffected.

NO ONE ever said the 7 series flat out sucks. Its just the ones with the problems appear to be limited to the 7 series, thats all.

As a matter of fact, the fact that is was just the 7 series was not even know til a ways into the thread and it helped narrow things down.

If you screen is fine, good for you - go play, but for those with the problem its distracting at any brightness and no acceptable!

Touche! Can you call more than 10 Powerbooks/Macbook pros PC's?
Then I have to be a republican...

:)

I know your joking, and so was I but you did not quote the "j/k" at the end..... so I am covering my but by clarify I was joking LOL!

I was just try to point out that some see this thread to black and white. Its been pointed out that its BEEN pointed out that not all have the problem and many are happy with their 7 series.

The only thing we don't know for sure yet is why some are worse than others and if its for sure hardware or software or a combination of both.

I think this thread has hit a dead end til Apple reacts or someone really digs into the hardware or software :(

Obviously you're right. I compared my NEW 7* screen iPhone to my friend's
old 7* iPhone today and mine is clearly better.
So maybe they fixed the screen after the first bunch? Who knows?
