mine is visible at 1/2 brightness easily... let me know how the other ones turn out... if everyone has it, it just varies in intensity then i dont care... but if not everyone has it, then i have to think its a faulty screen

It looks like all the phones at the store in Glendale have it.

some more, some less.

regardless, none of them has it when booting up(YES I RESTARTED THEM ALL)

I wonder if the LCD manufacturer plays a part in the issue.

If you go into field mode by dialing *3001#12345#* and then go to Versions, you'll see your LCD Panel ID. As far as I know, there are two such versions:

5755136
7455232

I've gone through 4 iPhones, 2 of each. And the one that has the checkerboard is one of the latter version.

Like I said before, if you look the glowing battery while it's charging, the one with the problem has the glow where the glow has too much contrast and doesn't blend smoothly into the black background.

mine is 7455232
and i have dots
lets just say that it is the manufacturer and all 7455232's have dots.
does that mean it can't be software calibration?

Same here.

mine is 7455232.

dots, and dead pixels.

crazy.

7455232...same here....

now I think that there could be a problem again. To be fair, my dots aren't extreme like some others but certainly visible.

Maybe I'll exchange it after all.

the problem with exchanging is that is seems all the iphones they are currently selling have the new screen.

so it might be hard for you to get a good one.

good luck though.

EDIT: i am saying this cause i exchanged 3 of them while at the store and they all had the same issue.

7455232 w/ Problems

7455232 and I see the dots and even more when I turn the brightness up. It only annoys me when I watch movies on the phone.

I also have a model 7455232. I will check a phone tonight that does not have the dots and see what model it is. This is really starting to bother me now. I wish Apple would say something. Even if they said "We should be able to fix it in software, just wait while we work on it", that would be fine with me. I just hate not knowing what is going on.

BTW: The phone I will be checking tonight was just picked up from an Apple store on Wednesday night, so if it is not a model 7455232, maybe the stores have both models right now.

I am going back again this week end too.

i need to find a good one.

Same here 7455232 with the dots. I exchanged one with two dead pixels for a phone with white dots, shotty assembly (nothing is flush), a button that is hard to push, a loose back end, and the usage stats don't work. Man...should have just lived with my dead pixels.

Yes! I have this problem too. Its VERY annoying when watching dark movies. My LCD also has a few dead pixels.

If this is a defect I just might go to the store and get it replaced. My 14 days is up today and I hope this won't have any affect on replacement. Although Mail in sounds convenient because of the loaner phone.

Edit, and yes, same version ID 7455232!

Steve

I too have version 7455232, but I have no white dots. I do have the checkerboard showing if I tilt it at a certain angle in certain light/background colors, but you hardly ever notice it.

I have 7455232 with easy to notice white dots and I just spotted two-three new dead pixels. I checked the screen throughly yesterday and no dead pixels were visible. I'm also experiencing erratic signal strength w/o moving, way too much... full service to 2 bars to no service and back to full service. Maybe the cheap screen phones also came with cheaper antennas? Anyone with a 7455232 experiencing this as well?

Seems like 7455232 is a lower quality POS

I highly doubt they are going to keep opening iPhones until they find a 5755136 for me. Maybe they will send it in for replacement? Or maybe they will announce a recall for 7455232 later down the road in order prevent bad news effecting the stock price at a crucial time after launch? Or they could just ignore it and only help the picky ones that complain. In any case, I scheduled another meeting with a Genius tomorrow, we'll see what happens...

i have the good 5 series......

was in store today and was not impreseed with genius bar help...i knew more than they did about the phone! i would exchange for sure if bad......

I have the 7455.....whatever screen, and I had to turn the brightness up all the way and go into a dark room with it held up to my face to see the dots... but they were there.

i agree that we can't expect them to keep on opening iphones til we find one with the "old" screen(if there are any left).

I am just wondering if it's worth waiting to see if apple releases a patch to fix it, since it is obvious to me that it is a software issue, or at least i hope so.

The loaner phone I received has a 5755136 LCD panel and DOES NOT have thee white dots!

Good to know Steve.

So what now? are you sending yours back? do you think they'll fix the screen or just send you another one?

also, are you given the option to keep the loaner if you want to?
