We will have to see what happens then, I would say they could always make a bezelles design one, but I can’t see the SE getting Face ID??
Too expensive right now given the target market. FaceID with bezel-less design will trickle down eventually but I highly doubt it'll happen this year.

Its a budget iPhone plain and simple. For folks that cannot afford a regular iPhone. You will not find any kids carrying this SE. They want the status of other iPhones!

I think your logic is slightly unbalanced. Yes, it has a much cheaper entry-level price point for a phone, but others can afford the other iPhone models, it's just that they prefer the iPhone SE because of the form factor and they don't care about the latest technology. They simply just want something that's comfortable to hold with solid battery life.

I agree the next SE if they make one will currently keep Touch ID, I just wonder if they keep the design similar to the 6 and 7 if all the other phones go bigger?
Stick 3D Touch in it but 2GB ram and the same storage options etc.

Hmmmi was going to for an X but I don’t like the battery scam attitude from them, plus the fact if the back of the X breaks it’ll cost a fortune unless you spend a fortune on Apple Care..

So I’m in two minds now and may wait till further in the year to see what’s launched. If they make an SE with 4.7” screen it could be tempting..

Having just returned an X, I really prefer Touch ID. Both work great for me and rarely miss, there just is an extra half-second of lag on the X. It reminds me of the first incarnation of Touch ID. As well it's just faster in practice due to not having to look at it (ie. I can already press down as I'm taking it out of my pocket). Face ID is great if for some reason your hands have some dust or wet...

The IR depth camera to integrate Face ID is likely far more $$ than the touch ID sensor. It just makes sense that it will only be on full screen phones moving forward.

Sounds great to me!
I'm personally very happy with TouchID and would love to get an SE2 that that still has TouchID.

I can wait many more years before being "upgraded" to FaceID.
I just don't care a lick about that honestly.

I find that this distinction between usage patterns is generally at the root of the differences in phone preferences.

I love the SE purely on size. Between where I put it in my car, when I use it on top of a treadmill, when it slides into all the pockets on all my clothes so easily (even small ones) and so many dozens of other use cases, it just always fits the bill.

For what I do with my mobile "phone" - The small physical size is the #1 reason I love it.

This photo of Tim here?
This doesn't happen to me with my SE and I love that...
It's particularly relevant in warmer weather situations where I might have shorts or just less clothing on in general. It's always a cinch to find a spot for my SE.

Well put.

I recall this interview and was sincerely hoping to see Cook stand up not notice the iPhone X was left in the couch, and had popcorn ready to see who in the front row would be fast enough to dive after the X!

just out of curiosity, a friend of mine has an 8, and I tested putting it in my front jeans pocket..... I can feel the pressure on the phone just sitting down on an office chair...... no way I could NOT break one of those biggies.

The SE is the only regular sized phone in Apple lineup for a reasonable\fair price! anything above 5" is a Phablet not a phone and not worth the asking price.

Dont know what you from, but around here kids dont really care what mobile phones they having (aka getting for free) - new SE, old iPhone models from their parents or Android phones as long as they can use it for Fbook-instegram-snapchat-youtube-whatsapp...

In my opinion, I don’t think we’ll be seeing the SE(X) for 2 reasons.

1. It would cannibalize the sales of the X.
2. It was made for India Markets & Budget conscience people.
Unless were getting two 4’ models one in March & the other in September. (which I highly doubt)
I do think Apple will still come out with the SE 2. if it comes out with the A11 chip, Touch ID 2, updated front facing camera and maybe 3D Touch they have a solid upgrade on their hands.
Not everyone is going to get want they want heck, there’s still some people that think that the X should have not been any larger than than the overall size of the 8.

It's almost like some users just like to rock the boat (troll a bit) or for some reason "want" the SE and smaller form factors to die.
I’ve also noticed that on this site - the armchair CEOs saying it’s ridiculous to keep products like the SE, iPad mini, iPod touch etc around... it’s not hurting them that these products are offered so it’s bizarre they are so virulently opposed to their continued existence o_O

My wife and I bought the SE, so we supported it! Love it! Want a 256 GB storage version. I have an iPhone X for work but hate it. I'd buy an SE-v2 if it's the SAME physical form factor, AND has TouchID still. Those are my only 2 requirements. Same size, TouchID.

Couple of rumors have the SE2 going to a 6.1 LCD with smaller bezels.... not what some of us expected or wanted...

What I don't get about those rumors is...
What is "SE" like about that device at that point?

Is that device really a low cost option with that screen?
It sure would kill the small physical size device aspect, as well as anything inferring a "special edition", "small edition" or "Steve edition" or whatever "from the past" the SE part was supposed to mean in the past.

I'm still in the camp that we are all way over-expecting (well, I'm not) here. I think the SE2 will be a thing this Spring and it will use the exact same physical case we have now, just with internal spec bumps. I even think Touch ID 1 may stay around as that maybe a cost saver to not have to change a thing about that front/top display part.

When the SE was announced, it was a big surprise to many, cause it had the flagship specs (6s) in a familiar body.
I don't think Apple will do this again. I guess the SE2 design will stay almost the same, slightly bigger and heavier, the edges a bit curved, same screen, Touch ID2, iphone 7 specs, no headphone jack, maybe has glass back and it will stay around for another 2-3 years in the lineup.

Not sure where you heard that rumor.

The 6.1" iPhone is expected to be $649-749.

SE2, if it exists, will be targeted at India and other developing countries. Apple already has iPhone 7 and 6s for $550 to $450. Below $450, Apple doesn't have anything competitive. Xiaomi 5" and 5.5" phones earn the top 3 spots in India and several SE Asian countries. Given how rapidly large display smartphones are being adopted, I would say 4" is out of the question.

New rumors...

Glass back & Wireless charging. Something I can live without...

I'm indifferent on it - but I won't lie...If it can do wireless charging I'll likely grab a mat and upgrade to newer AirPods case that can do that too --- and probably be pretty happy about it.

I care about one thing above all else: Physical size.
My entire purchasing decision starts and ends with that.

If they make this thing too close to the existing 4.7" iPhone Physical sizes - they ruined it and lost me.

I'm a huge fan of the 4" form factor. Having a lightweight phone that I'm able to use with one hand is what really matters to me - I actually sold my iPhone 7 and bought a brand new 5S for an insanely low price last year just for the sake of its size. The larger size of the 7 drove me crazy. I really, really hope Apple doesn't abandon the 4" segment!

The design of the 5S/current SE is lovely imo - really timeless and classy, also it's lightweight and feels lovely in the hand - but it might be time to refresh the design since it's been around since 2012. It'd be really cool to see a 4" iPhone X but I'm certain they won't do it - it would drive up the prize and also would cannibalize sales of the "real" iPhone X. Personally I think they're gonna make an iPhone 7-inspired SE - they'll probably put the A10 chip in there and refresh the design. Perhaps it'll be identical to the iPhone 7 with a smaller screen, or some kind of hybrid between the 5S and 7 designs.

Hmm will be interesting to see what they do, may have to take a look if they redesign it, give it the iPhone 7 or 8 camera with OIS, same pricing etc. 3D Touch would be nice as well.

Yeah I’m going to be keeping an eye on these rumours.

The SE is very good right now. The only way I can see that it could be improved is to reduce the large top and bottom bezels while keeping the body the same size, except 1/4 of an inch (6 mm!) wider because the side bezels are small. It would then fit the 4.7" screen of the regular iPhone. That and dual stereo speakers. Done. Perfect. No more left to do. Sony has done that for 4 years with the Xperia Compact, though that phone does not look nearly as nice cosmetically as the SE.
