From Jon prosser(front page tech) the iPhone SE will have the iPhone XR rear facing camera and probably the regular 7mp front camera. Makes sense. Why would anyone buy the iPhone 11 if the SE had all the same cameras as the higher priced unit

Assuming they follow the same announcement schedule as the iPad Pro 2020, we should be seeing it in about 6 hours (5AM PST). Could be later around 10AM PST as well though.

Anyway, I know there’s like zero chance, but I’m still crossing my fingers for a SE Plus launch today as well 😅

If the camera is the one on the XR (portrait limited to humans and no night mode) I’m out.

Just trying to keep it real. Even if Jon prosser didn’t mention it, it would only make logical sense. 699$ for the 11 minus 399$ For the SE =300$ difference. No way the SE gets the same camera tech as the iPhone 11 while getting the A13 as well. Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if they used the A12 chip too.

Not really an SE then. Special Edition has to stay in the line up for a few years as the budget device - if they make it outdated from the start then it will just be slated by every tech reviewer. One single lens rear camera is not the latest tech from the more expensive models as they each have more cameras, and the Pro get yet another.

Even at $399 it can have the A13 (soon to be superseded by the iPhone 12 models), and a main rear camera from the 11.

If a new phone in 2020 is released by Apple with no night mode, old camera tech etc then it will just get bad press, even if it’s still a decent device because comparison tests, reviews, YouTube content creators will just slate it to get the traffic and headlines.

We shall see later on, but if they fill it with outdated tech, as good as it still is, people won’t be happy as it’s hardly “special edition” in that setup.

Also by having the latest camera tech and chip, there will be people with an 11 that might decide to return to the smaller phone for whatever reason (mainly size), if it’s not at least got 1 good camera lens, they won’t bother.

Can you imagine this phone with those specs sitting in the Apple store in two years time when the other iPhones are so far advanced even at a budget price it makes it look a bad deal, over a used or refurb 11/12 by then.

When I try to ask Siri a question, half the time it doesn’t work or Siri will respond by saying lost the connection let me try that again... When trying to make or receive a call on the watch (series 5) it won’t go thru a lot of the time. Dictation on the watch is hit and miss as well. There is an ongoing thread about this. It seems to be affecting a lot of SE users. When I had my XS Max, I didn’t have these kinds of problems. I think it is a Bluetooth issue with the SE. I think getting the new SE may solve my problems.

I've been having this issue too!! I was convinced something was wrong with my Bluetooth antenna.
Question for you: Would Siri ever begin to answer a question, halfway through answering say "Uh oh, lost the connection," and then finish answering?

i Won’t deny that makes sense from a media/publicity standpoint. i Just want to see what decision Apple makes and which way they’ll lean per our discussion. Once and if it’s released today (04/15) we can come back here for even more discussion regarding the outcome

I do wish they maybe did the midnight blues as a new colour, something to make it stand out a bit like when the original SE was launched you knew Rose Gold meant it was an SE and not a 5 or 5S.

I agree. The Integration of the iPhone 11 main camera will be crucial.

yeah I noticed that too. Makes sense.
Though in 2016 the SE did have the most state of the art rear camera at the time (The flagship camera)

one could argue the iPhone 11 has the dual cameras Vs This only having one

It would make the XR odd in the lineup but then again same with them 6 when the SE came out, it was cheaper but had way better specs

one thing that puzzles me is the A13 really pushing the night mode. Seems like a waste to put the A13 in and not have night mode.

we know it will have the a13 based on the rumor mill esp from credible analysts and leakers, and the a12 hypothetically in The phone would not be a big improvement over the A11 it replaces in the 8, so to me mixing the A13 with the XR camera seems like a waste of the night mode functionality - unless they still have it with the XR camera since the ISP does the Night mode work

Yep, me too.
Let's hope you're right, @oVerboost.

I just think those wanting a good camera, if the SE doesn't deliver will be pushed towards the new Pixel 4a. Thats for people who want a good camera above all else, not the people who are iOS/Apple loyalists etc. So the people who go into the phone store, ask for the best camera on a "cheaper" device, will be sold the Pixel over the SE, considering the Pixel A devices do seem to be improving year upon year, where as the regular Pixel line seems to be a less compelling choice for the price.

Since the day I first heard rumors of this phone a year ago or so in my mind there’s never been doubt this phone will feature single camera from the latest flagship. It’s the SE way.

It will have iPhone 11’s main camera with Night mode. Otherwise, imagine trying to market and sell that 6 (!) year-old design with nothing but A13 going for it in this day and age of bezel-less oled phones with 3-4-5 cameras and universal 5g support that is months away.

Apple needs more selling points to work with, and that’s where their latest excellent (albeit single) camera comes into play. I’ll be truly shocked if it turns out differently.

I understand your point, but 699 is 75% more money than 399 and are totally different devices. Even having both at 699, a lot of people would choose the SE because of its size.

The main camera of the 11 / 11Pro is going to be old in 5 month.

I have the 11 Pro, and I´m ready to go down to the SE/9, but if the camera is the one on the XR I will go with the 8 and wait for the 5,4, if it happens.

But hey... Apple can always give surprises, maybe we´ll see a 32 gb version 😂

The 5.4" iPhone 12 that is coming later this year will actually be smaller than this one right?

I really hope for XR level camera with
A12 processor and that camera will already be a win!
WIth iPhone11 camera with night mode it would be like a dream phone for me, for 400USD!

Never mind, in one of the other Iphone SE threads overboost mentioned 1pm or 5pm at the latest UK time.
