If they put touch ID in this, people will only be expecting it to be featured in the more premium, pro models. Does anyone know why they haven't implemented it? Would it get in the way of the "swipe up" home button the iphone X introduced? I really do miss it.

I refused to buy an SE because of the insanely ugly bezels and tiny screen. I will never buy any phone under 6.1".

It's good to see Apple updating to a modern design with a proper sized display!

Maybe by the time I upgrade from my 15 Pro Max we'll have a new SE. Around 2026 maybe? I wouldn't mind going back to a notched phone but I assume the "2026" SE will have the dynamic island and be 6.3" which is even better.

So not the Mini reborn?
No, the Mini stays where it belongs: the grave. Nobody wants a Mini phone which is why Apple cancelled it. If you want a small phone then get this new SE when it comes out?

Give it a 120Hz display and I'm sold. Yes RIP smaller phones but if you're not still carrying that torch this sounds like a good phone.

I’m SE’s target market. I don’t buy show ponies. I buy important features. My wife likes large screens and creates and edits online content. She goes for the Pro Max and I support her.

I couldn’t buy any of the 4.7” SEs because of the bezels, screen size and battery though I liked the overall body.

I have a 13 mini and I had the 12 mini. I do more now. The keyboard is really too narrow and I like to show photos to people but they are small on the mini. I do miss my XS. Time to move up.

I love that the SE will be so much cheaper than the 15.

Just a shame it’s not coming until next year!

Apple Should price this at $499, and release a Mini a year later at $399. Thereby bumping the iPhone SE to effectively $499 while continue to claim the SE range starts at $399. If Apple and the market data are right then $399 Mini wouldn't even make much of the sales anyway because everyone wants bigger phones. This also keeps the minority of us who wants a Mini.

On a 6.7" vs 6.1" iPhone. The display area is roughly 20% increase in size.

So for 6.1" to be 20% bigger. A smaller iPhone should have been 5.5" or 5.6".

Doesn't the iPhone 8 look just like the iPhone 6, other than re-routed antenna lines and a glass back?

The back glass and addition of wireless charging makes it look and feel much more modern than the 6 though.

Still just a difference of back glass though, appearance-wise. The back glass is also a result of adding wireless charging.

You could argue the same about the iPhone 4 vs 5 though - minor adjustments to the body and back but effectively the same design language.

To me, they are very distinctly different looking devices.

Better? How? My Touch ID has worked perfectly for years with zero problems whatsoever. What's the problem? Why does the new iPad mini I bought for my wife just months ago still have Touch ID on the power button?
More secure, works with gloves on, attention aware screen locking is really good, generally more reliable in my experience, just generally cooler.

TouchID is fine but it’s a faff to have to use the same finger and it is unreliable if your hands are wet/ you just washed your hands, and it takes up so much space.

Not missed it since I switched to an X in 2017 and I loath using it on my Mac vs Windows Hello on my Linux laotop

Very simple, Apple knows the Mini phones don't sell as well as the larger models. Why would they infest in designing a smaller model if nobody is going to buy it? That's just bad business practice.
How dare you call me nobody! 😆

For now. At least give us 90Hz. It's like they're running low on Hz so they gotta ration them out. Android took them all!
I've got a Pixel 6a and a 2022 iPhone SE. The lowly LCD display on the iPhone SE never has a problem scrolling but the Pixel 6a with its amazing OLED display (that I can't read outside), stutters when scrolling.

Oh believe me I know it's not all about the paper specs. That's why despite my griping, my 13 Pro isn't going anywhere.

I just think Apple could afford to bring up the refresh rate floor. Maybe I'm wrong. One day.

The trouble is that Apple will not buy 1080p or 2160p displays, for whatever reason. They could buy the same displays OnePlus uses (that are very wide) that I find most appealing, but Apple want to go their own way.

If you like a bendable phone.

Meh, I remember the whole bendgate thing. Thing is if you have half a brain you wouldn't put your phone in those situations, back pockets, tight front pockets and sitting hard on it, etc. Apple released videos of their QR testing showing it takes 55lbs of force to bend one, according to consumer reports that's the same amount of force required to break three pencils. CR then conducted their own tests and they found they started to deform around 90lbs of force (I don't see it mentioned if that was a permanent deformity). Yes the ip6 bends more easily than other phones of the time, but in practice you have to apply a heck of a lot of force. After that Apple upgraded the aluminum to 7000 series in the 6s which was stronger and continued to make improvements through the iphone 7, 8, X, and 11.

FYI I never said to actually use the iPhone 6 body/frame in a new SE (doh?), just that the design language (certainly aesthetics are just my personal opinion) was much nicer in those days. I'd take the aesthetics of the 6, 7, 8, X, or 11 for sure over the boxy, bulky designs of today and 2014 looking dynamic island). I just like to point out the ip6 because of it's tiny size, and it just happens to be the phone sitting in my nightstand drawer powering my iMessage.
