what if your iphone is already unlocked/jailbroken? so it's already using a non-o2 sim in it...

and it's that phone that i want to have officially unlocked by o2, so i can then use the official apple software and not pwn it...

would i have to do a restore in itunes first... then put the non-o2 sim in?

or doesn't it matter what version of software is running (eg: legit or pwned)

Well you need to have your O2 phone number to give them.

Once they unlock your IMEI, you should probably restore to stock in iTunes with the non-O2 SIM, so there are no iTunes mess ups. That would confirm it had worked. After that, I don't know the effect of re-jailbreaking with Pwnage but I guess the unlock would still stick.

umm.. not sure i understand fully..

i had an iPhone 3G on 18 month contract which comes to an end on Jan 10th 2010..

when the 3GS came out, I bought the PAYG version and put my O2 sim from the 3G into the 3GS (like some of you guys have done)..

I then jailbroke and unlocked the 3G to give to my wife who is currently using a non-o2 sim.

So, the phone number I will give O2 will be my number - the number I'm currently using with in my 3GS, but the 3G is the one that I want to have officially unlocked.

So if I fill the form in with my number and get a text message.. do I have to put my o2 sim back into the 3G or something? then connect to itunes?

I think it's all a bit confusing!! lol..

and no, i haven't even opened the PAYG sim..

I have a 3GS I bought off eBay which I have my Simplicity SIM (been on it around 12 months) in - will o2 unlock it or will I have problems cos the IMEI is probably registered to the person I bought it from ?

Just got my text confirmation.

And it's a 2 month old PAYG 3GS running on my 18 month old Simplicity contract, so it would seem the rules are flexible!

Haven't been able to test it yet, will have to restore as I'm currently unlocked with Blacksn0w.

Congrats.

O2's preposterous justification has officially gone down the toilet now

Just call them. Explain the situation and see what they say.

Just to confirm, it works!!

2 month old Pay and Go 3GS (used on O2 Simplicity) on stock 3.1.2 connected to T-Mobile :D

Officially unlocked iPhones are the easiest to Jailbreak because you don't need to worry about baseband upgrades or activations. I have an officially unlocked iPhone which I have jailbroken from day one. Jailbreaking and unlocking are two separate processes. You certainly need to jailbreak to unlock, but you don't need to unlock to jailbreak.

Yes, it's my only number, I never activated on Pay and Go, I had my 2G iPhone on it from March 2008 till this August, then the 3GS that I bought to replace it.

I applied late on the 9th.

Hi, have you had your unlock text or did you simply go onto itunes?
I applied at about 5pm on 9th and haven't had any text from them as yet

Thanks

Alex

Tut, tut. You don't even bother to read your own thread. :p

Just got my text confirmation.

Excellent news. That bodes well for the rest of us.

OOps!! - no its called skim reading whilst trying to eat some tea and open a bottle of wine :D:D

Hopefully I can look forward to a text in the next 24 hours - just in time before I am due to go away.

weird... I applied late on Monday night (must have been about 11pm when i noticed), and haven't had a sniff of an e-mail or a text or anything about my iphone being unlocked..

*sighs*

Oh well... i'll patiently wait and see what happens..

Everyone should just try to insert a SIM of a different carrier. That's what happened to me with Movistar in Spain. I asked for them to unlock my phone and they told me it would take about 15 days and that I would receive a text message telling me that it's unlocked. You basically just have to wait a few hours after the call (or in this case, after applying maybe?) and insert a different SIM, not wait for the text message. It's worked for both me and my girlfriend. So yeah, try it! Hopefully it'll work.

just got my message:

Your iphone is now unlocked. To use a non-o2 sim card in your iPhone, swap the existing sim and connect to iTunes as usual

I will test it when I get home from work!
(Contract 3gs taken out July 2009 on O2 - so you don't even need to be out of your contract!!)

i've tried 2 different sims, orange and 3 now, and both times itunes just says i'm using an unsupported sim...

still not got a text, and obviously no unlock either...

at least I have a spare iphone that is jb/unlocked so I can use them in that...

How many times have you requested the unlock? lol, i've requested it 5 times! I hope that doesn't put me to the back of the Q

I spoke to a mamanger at O2 who said they've received thousands of unlock requests and they're going through them as fast as they can. I wouldn't imagine sending multiple requests will help them much.
