Also you can't show battery percentage anymore:( Really bummed about that.

Swipe diagonal from the upper right corner.

So no battery % displayed on the home screen? Seriously?

Swipe diagonally from the upper right corner. Not a big deal.

My screen does not exhibit this behavior, don’t know what to tell you.

Mine doesn't either.

I just realllly dislike this phone. It pisses me off just looking at this thing!!!
God damnit!

Return it then and get on with your life.

I can't believe I'm saying this but going to be returning my X and getting a 8 Plus. Upgraded from regular 6 Plus. I have large hands and just can't get over the downgrade in overall size - and it's thicker! Tall, narrow, awkward, notch. Otherwise an amazing phone but man am I disappointed. I think I'll be really happy with the 8 Plus with the super fast chip which is a huge upgrade from laggy 6 - and going back to black (tired of white 6+). Hopefully next year there will be a notcheless X+. I can't imagine I'm the only one greatly disappointed by the "larger" screen size essential being a gimmick.

I cannot believe I'm saying this either but I may return the X and get an 8 Plus, or Note 8. I am going to give the X a solid week of use and see where I'm at, but at this point, like you, I find the size of the screen too small: the tall, skinny screen isn't doing it for me. This, on top of the many other things I've mentioned here.

I'm typing this on a new 15" MacBook Pro, of which the keyboard sucks. I thought to myself... that it didn't seem like anyone at Apple really used this thing which is why the keyboard is bad.

Now, with the iPhone X, it's seeming to me that it's more design by committee, and less about anyone at Apple using this thing. The whole thing seems wrong. The odd size. The notch. The OLED screen with the blue tint. The camera bump is annoying...

Things I don’t like:

  • FaceID not working consistently when laying flat on a desk.
  • The number of apps that aren’t yet optimized.
  • Control center is at the way top.
  • I keep getting a “Low Light” error with Animoji. What gives? I thought this used infrared.
Things I thought I wouldn’t like but hasn’t bothered me so far:

  • The notch.
  • The blue tint at angles that everyone is talking about.
  • Disappearance of the home button and the increase in amount of gestures.
  • The overall size of the device and screen.

I redid my FaceID but instead of holding my phone even with my face I had the phone lower

That made a big difference for me when I unlock with the phone laying flat on my desk

I read a lot of books on iPhone and that bottom home bar is just a deal breaker. Cmon we know you swipe up to close an app. Every page of a kindle book there’s that glaring bottom bar.

Others would be battery percentage. And bit of a pain to close apps but both of these are bearable. I like Face ID. Screen is nice.

But this is going back. I’ll grab an 8 plus and hope Apple can figure this stuff out by next year. Even games have that stupid bar at bottom.

Omg I was just about to post about how tilting my phone at barely 10 degrees or so, a blue tint starts to appear. At 90 degrees this crap is straight up blue.

Dead on it’s beautiful. Not sure how I feel about this. Is this normal for oled? Yuck!

Yup. As the night goes on here, my conclusion so far is that this OLED screen on the X is regressive compared to the standard IPS Retina LCD. I would never have allowed a product like this to ship if I was running Apple. It would fail the first pass.

Just wait until 3 years from now, a continued aged Phil Schiller on stage:

"We've worked really hard on iPhone X's display over the past 3 years, and are announcing today, the Super IPS OLED screen. Traditional OLED screens don't show well when tilted, and suffer from the blue tint effect. We've been able to eliminate that with this new technology."

Instantly, all of our current iPhone X's become worthless.

Before I complain, let me preface by saying I LOVE this new phone. My nit picks:

- The screen is way smaller than I expected. My games look TINY here, mainly because it does not spread them the full width, rather it adds bars on the right and left AND leaves space on the bottom for the home slider bar. I didn't anticipate that... hopefully it will be fixed as developers resize things for the X. However, at the present moment, compared to the 7SP, a lot of things are significantly smaller.

- I honestly don't miss the home button... sliding up is perfectly natural... EXCEPT in landscape mode. I have Apple's leather case on here, and sliding up while sideways is a right pain in the a$$.

The developer that makes your games hasn't bothered to update them for the iPhone X yet. Once they get around to it, they'll look a lot better.

It’s odd that there’s multiple Apple apps that aren’t optimized for this screen size. Even ones that are build in like iMovie and GarageBand.

This isn't something waiting to be updated. It's the way it is. In landscape, the notch area can't be used. So the opposite side has to be null due to symmetry.

This is a trainwreck folks!

I wouldn't be surprised if 50% of all iPhone X sales today were from resellers playing off the Hype. I also predict a higher than usual return rate for this phone: it's terribly overpriced and is riddled with a bevy of design and technology related flaws.

Yea I mistakingly thought a 5.8 screen would feel larger than a 5.5 screen but the notch, that bottom bar to remind us how to close apps really consume a lot of screen real-estate. You actually use 8mm in screen size width and it is worst in landscape mode apps not enabled for the X. I will have to see how it goes this week, but I might just return it and use my 6s plus for one more year and hope next year they offer something better.

The keys are smaller? No wonder why I've been having troubles typing on it. Right after I picked mine up I had to head out for work and never really got a chance to play with it. Not really as excited about others are at the moment, but time will tell...
No, the keys are NOT smaller than on the 6/7/8. I'm coming from the 7, and the keys are a tiny bit larger. Not enough to need a lot of adjustment, though.

Part of the problem were fanboys on this very forum.

Even before the X was available, it was clear the X display would be both smaller physically and smaller in usable area compared to Plus. There was plenty of discussion on this forum from concerned Plus owners. But fanboys shot down the discussion.

The X display is physically 0.25" narrower than a Plus. Even though the X is taller, the status bar is double the height compared to Plus. Then, you have all these null zones around the display.

The size is too small for me, both screen and form factor. I’ve played with my husband’s 6 for years trying to get used to it, so I knew the X was going to be a problem. I was able to work with the keyboard okay.

Didn’t care for landscape mode.

The screen looks surreal which I think is awesome for movies and games, but a little odd for normal reading. The blacks seem to float, so other colors don’t seem to be on the same level. This actually makes the notch stand out to me even more when I was prepared to ignore it. Kind of hard to explain, but as someone who reads a lot on screen, it was noticeable.

It wasn’t too hard getting past the missing home button, but reaching in the corners to the control center and notifications was definitely a dislike.

Speaking of reading -- is it weird having no bottom bezel, and so text/content continues all the way down to the edge of your palm (as you hold the phone)?

has youtube not been updated yet to fit full landscape view or am I just missing something?

Wow how petty. Yeah if a silly little bar angers you that much, you should return it.

My biggest complaint so far is deleting apps from multitasking. You should be able to just swipe away
Yes, this is driving me crazy.

I don't understand this for two reasons:
  1. You can just flick/swipe upwards to close/remove apps from the multitasking pane.
  2. This isn't something that is done often anyway, but instead in the rare occasion that an app freezes or otherwise misbehaves. So it would seem odd for it to be a big complaint or something that would drive a person crazy.

Upgraded from 6+, I have use the X for the past day and I like the performance that finally let me put a lot apps in without dragging down the system but there are certain things I don’t like. It’s 2am and I have to let go some whiny stuff and I don’t feel like separating them on the comments of different threads. And because most of things I mentioned are about the system, not third party apps that needs updating.

Face ID - Surprisingly it doesn’t work well for me. Over the past day I have numerous failed unlocks mixed with successful unlocks. Now I’m laying on bed with no other light on and it won’t unlock from lock screen no matter how many tries but some supported apps can be unlocked.

Back to last app - it used to be just left top corner, now it’s a smaller font below time but above current app and it doesn’t align with neither so it looks really odd.

The extra space - what’s up the big blank on settings above settings title? And the void below keyboard and between left globe and right dictation? Very odd design.

The flashlight and camera icon on notification - why do I have to force touch to use them? Especially it’s confusing when force touch flashlight from control center allows me to choose light intensity.

The bar on horizontal mode (or just the bar) - I know it’s a new system of gesture but do I really need the bar to remind me I can swipe up from bottom to go to home? I used that gesture hundreds of times a day! I don’t see its necessity when no bars or anything indicates you for control center and notifications. Especially it has to be persistent when I watch video or playing games on horizontal mode. First of all It’s a distraction (I even get used to the notch very quickly)! Secondly for games that now just keeps its original ratio, the bar just makes the game looks even smaller. (I come from 6+ btw)

Reachability - for those who’s wondering, it’s swipe DOWN from the BOTTOM! But try doing this with one hand, how awkward it is because of the full screen. And if I need the other hand to activate it, why do I need this function?

Ok. Now I feel better. Back to sleep now.

I finally got to play with an iPhone X which is my neighbor's.

The gestures are harder to use than I thought. It's okay when you're idle, but trying to do some of the gestures while walking is freaking annoying. Especially the gesture for one-handed usage.

Compared to how my 7+ Touch ID and my Note 8 Iris scanner jumps right to the homescreen. Apple needs to add an option to go directly to the home screen without swiping.

The notch is there. No matter how much you get used to it, it's still there, and will always be times when it might get in the way, especially in landscape when viewing videos of a certain aspect ratios or gaming.

Multitasking/recent apps is a pain. I expect a lot of thumbs to develop biceps.

The camera bump. The slim case on the one I was playing with, the camera was flush with the case. This would mean a thicker case is required for better camera protection.

Overall, I really like the iPhone X. But I'll wait next fall for an improved version. The negatives I listed are things I could live with, but would still want improvement on.

No, Face ID uses infrared, Animoji uses the TrueDepth front camera, which is part of the Face ID system, but not all of it.

Animoji uses the facial mesh calculations that Apple doesn't keep in the Secure Enclave, the same part that it allows 3rd party apps like Snapchat, for example. It still needs light, whereas Face ID works just fine in complete darkness.

As for Face ID on the desk, it might work if you turn off attention requirement.

How can you not do this with one hand? Wow. Are you sure you have reachability activated and know you just need to do a quick swipe down?

It’s activated for sure. I don’t have big hands, and the bottom is really the bottom. It’s a stretch to use it, hence awkward, not undoable.

You can't reach the bottom button with one hand? When you enable it, it is not there by default, it is a quick swipe down on the bottom icon there. Not sure how you say that is a stretch.
