I wish Apple would make the metallic parts out of hardened metals.

There are many watches with hardened metals which are practically impervious to anything in daily use, short of a diamond bit hitting it. Maybe someday, when these devices are useful for 10x their current usable life. There's little point putting in 20-30yr durable material for something that will be replaced within 2-3yrs, I suppose.

Omg I was just about to post about how tilting my phone at barely 10 degrees or so, a blue tint starts to appear. At 90 degrees this crap is straight up blue.

Dead on it’s beautiful. Not sure how I feel about this. Is this normal for oled? Yuck!
Yup. Completely normal. One of the Pixel 2 XL be complaints. I have heard the pixel is worse though

This thing is slippery as heck! I thought the old 4s were bad with a glass back and metal sides but this thing with the stainless steel sides and curved edges is just asking to be dropped!

Also you can't show battery percentage anymore:( Really bummed about that.

Disagree. My clammy hands tend to "stick" more to the glass than the matte aluminum on my iPhone 7+.

I miss the % as well quite a bit, but it'd be too cluttered and wouldn't fit in the notch ear. You can swipe down and see it in the control center or add it as a complication to your Apple Watch.

That's by no means too big of a compromise for my taste, but I wouldn't be fond of it, either.

Overall, I like my X. But when I put it side by side with my iPhone 6 Plus, it's not as bright and honestly, I can't tell the difference in the screen when it comes to safari, apps. There is a difference in video in favor of the X, but again, the actual video is smaller than the Plus screen.

Holy **** it's fast though.
OLEDs biggest weakness is brightness. OLED TVs can’t get super bright for HDR content yet ( it can display HDR but it uses some magic with its black levels)

Speaking of reading -- is it weird having no bottom bezel, and so text/content continues all the way down to the edge of your palm (as you hold the phone)?

That wasn’t so bad. Most of what I looked at squared the edges to accommodate the space for the horizontal line and/or the notch. I did notice text continuing to where the horizontal line interfered with reading. In those instances, yes, very bad. Hopefully that gets worked out.

After only a few hours I love the look and feel. Quickly getting used to the gestures in lieu of the home button. I don’t miss the home button one bit. I do miss the roomier keyboard of my 7+. And I absolutely hate the notch. I scoffed and didn’t think it would bother me but it does. Dealbreaker? No but IMO it’s a hideous thing I’ll have to get accustomed to. I hope they get enough flack to figure out something better next year.

With this off it now works

What is the Black bar cutting through Passcode?

The blue tint on tilt is absolutely there, even on slight tilting, and it's noticeable. This OLED screen doesn't hold a candle to the standard IPS LCD Retina on Apple's previous iPhones.

It's fine in the sense that I can look at the screen and use the device and not get that tint, but it doesn't take much of a tilt for it to show. This is a very poor user experience and Apple should have perfected this part of the screen before shipping this device.

In 5 years, once all of this stuff is worked out and things have advanced, the current iPhone X will be worth about 200 bucks.
You realize that tint shift is a known problem with all OLEDs.
Noticed that when I checked out the store model. The screen is so much worse than that on my roommates Galaxy S8.

Now that it’s been 24 Hours with the X, anyone have a change of opinion?

Some of the things I was “annoyed” about I now don’t mind or pay attention to. I also realized that my brightness was so dim because I previously created an accessibility function to dim when Home button was pressed three times and figured out how to get that back.

My only remaining gripe is that some of the apps aren’t compatible and they therefore introduce the lack bezel. I’m assuming, though, this will get fixed in due time?

A potential bug, right now my iPhone X 256GB won’t charge over 82% it’s like stuck there, haven’t restarted yet because iCloud is still restoring. I hope this goes away after a restart, could also be a bug in iOS 11.1

I bet you are using the piece of crap standard charger or wireless charging both are currently slow. with the indexing going on you don't have enough juice going in to go forward...I hate that Apple does not give the faster charger with a phone costing this much...
[doublepost=1509809174][/doublepost]The cost of AppleCare + should be a fast charger included in the package.

For me its all the unused space at the bottom of the keyboard when typing in messages....unless I am missing something I can turn off?
It's so you don't have to stretch your thumb so far down to text. It places the keyboard more naturally at the thumbs height. Smart design.

Get off yer phone in meetings and get back to work!

Seriously though, I do the same thing at my desk. The difference is that I’m open to using a stand. Hell I kinda like the idea especially if the stand was also a wireless charger.
[doublepost=1509781387][/doublepost]

Hahahaha! You know how it goes sometimes, one of the reasons I finally got the Watch, so I can leave the phone at the desk more often. I'm not adopting the X just yet, but I will take a stand into consideration when it's time.

To get rid of the slight yellow, which wasn’t as bad as people claimed, I turned off True Tone. But that turned the screen blue. And now if I’m not looking at the screen head on, there is a purple to it. At this point, if the screen doesn’t magically behave by the end of next week, or gets worse, I’m writing this thing off as garbage and apple can have it back.

Ok, it's now Day 2 folks. There are things I like about the X, as I've said.

Here is something I have learned and is a truism about the iPhone X:

The bezels are built into the software.
The bezels are built into the software.
The bezels are built into the software.

Remember that. What happens is the safe zone stops at where the curve of the screen starts on the forehead and chin of the device. So while those areas have some use, in its general implementation, they will be cut off from having menu bars, etc. in Apps. Therefore, the all screen aspect of the X isn't really all screen: you lose it. It's part of the price you pay for the notch and home bar. But it's also because of how bloody rounded the corners are: hard to have consistent menu bars there because they get cut off by the curves. It's horrible. And so cutting off the forehead and chin from housing things like menu bars in Apps is necessary.

All of my initial issues and then some are still present:
  • I don't like how narrow it is compared to my previous Plus. Everything is shrunk.
  • I don't like the notch: that is not going away for me.
  • The blue tint on tilt sucks, period.
  • I don't like the reduced screen size compared to the Plus: once and for all, no, it is not the same size screen as the Plus. You do not get the same usable screen real estate... it's less.
  • I don't like the home bar that's pretty much always there.
  • The camera bump is annoying as ever: because this device is so much smaller physically than a Plus, and because the camera bump is now vertical instead of horizontal, it's totally in the way (fingers slide over it or rest on it frequently).
  • No battery percentage in status bar: slightly annoying.
  • No Cellular data type display in the status bar (e.g., LTE, 3G) as well as carrier (e.g., ATT, Bell, Rogers, etc.). It's not displayed. So you don't know if you are on LTE or 3G. You don't know if you're roaming on another carrier because you can't see what network you're roaming on. Annoying. Even swiping to Control Centre, I can't see whether I'm on LTE or what! Only with Wifi turned off.
  • No AM or PM on the clock: slightly annoying.
  • Reachability: gesture is slightly difficult to master.
  • FACE ID doesn't always work for a number of reasons. Annoying.
  • No tabbed and expanded App mode like on Plus iPhones. That means no tabbed browsing. No expanded Mail interface. Or for Notes. Etc.
  • Landscape sucks on this device, period. Partly because of the above, and also because of the keyboard being stretched out with thinner keys, and less content because of how narrow the screen is.
  • Thing heats up big time doing certain things. Will see how this goes over the next few days.

That’s up to the developers. Apple is strongly encouraging them to redesign quickly, and actually providing help from what I’ve heard, but the devs have to do it. About 60% of the apps I use regularly are optimized for the X, so it’s noticeable when they aren’t. That’s not the phone’s or Apple’s fault. There are more released daily.

Love the phone so far. Notch doesn’t bother me and the screen is beautiful!

What I don’t like and wish I had the option to change..

  • The bar. I know I need to swipe up. Don’t need a reminder. Need an option to turn it on and off.
  • Huge waste of space at the bottom of the keyboard. Why?
  • Wasted space at the top of most Apple apps. I don’t understand this. Seems to be an iOS 11 thing.
Other than that, nothing else. So far.

Is it really normal though? I don't think so.

I see a ton of reports of this on Pixel 2's on youtube. My iPhone X looks pretty much exactly the same. How come then with other OLED screen, the blue shift isn't there, or its so minimal that its hardly noticeable.

There are also reports that some Pixel 2's don't have the shift.

Lastly, why then would the original Pixel not have the shift as seen on this comparison video? BTW, my iPhone X blue shift looks exactly the the Pixel 2 here:

Another video of two Pixel 2's one exhibiting that blue shift:
