The only thing so far that I will complain about is the ringer. When receiving a call on both of our x’s you can barely here it even though it is turned all the way up.
I noticed that there is a new setting for the ringer. Go to Settings > Sounds and Haptics, and see what the ringer volume is set to.
I like my ringer set 3/4 of the way and I kept using my volume button to try and lower it. It wasn’t working so I checked the settings and noticed that the ringer volume is set there and the volume buttons control everything else.
I find this to be a great improvement. Sometimes I’m in bed with my phone while the girlfriend sleeps and I turn my volume down with the physical volume buttons (Plus I like the volume lower on apps and feedback, etc. anyways). If I don’t remember to turn it back up my alarm in the morning isn’t loud enough. It’s caused me to wake up late several times.

Same. I also leave it off to one side and will only glance at it from an off center position. I can see my phone screen from a decent distance. The phone lays flat, I don’t want it on a stand, and if I’m in meetings, it wouldn’t be on a stand anyway. I’m good at looking at my phone without looking at it.
I’m going to have to get some friends to do some tests for me, but even if it is an issue, hopefully it will be nothing by the next release.
Get off yer phone in meetings and get back to work!
Seriously though, I do the same thing at my desk. The difference is that I’m open to using a stand. Hell I kinda like the idea especially if the stand was also a wireless charger.

I can't believe I'm saying this but going to be returning my X and getting a 8 Plus. Upgraded from regular 6 Plus. I have large hands and just can't get over the downgrade in overall size - and it's thicker! Tall, narrow, awkward, notch. Otherwise an amazing phone but man am I disappointed. I think I'll be really happy with the 8 Plus with the super fast chip which is a huge upgrade from laggy 6 - and going back to black (tired of white 6+). Hopefully next year there will be a notcheless X+. I can't imagine I'm the only one greatly disappointed by the "larger" screen size essential being a gimmick.
I came from a regular 6+ too. I don’t have the same complaints as you do though. As you said the chip in both the 8 and X is super fast especially compared to the 6.
I really don’t notice the notch. My focus is on the content in the sweet spot of the screen and I only look to the notch region when I’m updating myself on my X’s status.
The screen is much better than our 6+. The real issue here is application level, not hardware. Developers are going to update their software now that they have the phone in their hands. Just like when a new XBox console is released and there aren’t many games and even less good ones, it’ll take a bit of time for the developers to catch up.
This phone is innovative and industry leading technology. With that being said this is also its first iteration. If you aren’t patient enough to be part of the changes/fixes/upgrades, you’d be better off with the old style iPhone until the entire iOS ecosystem catches up. That’ll probably be two more device updates from now. It’s not Apple’s job to update everyone else’s iOS apps to work with their hardware.

Notch is fine, dont really notice it.
Want battery percent instead of image
Hate the 'home bar' thats on every screen now.. i don't need a reminder on how to get home.
Landscape is now reminiscent of Android phones because Apple doesnt know what to do with the extra space.
A lot of apps are not optimized for it so tons of Black-Bar space on top and bottom of apps (again Android Like).
Depending on what apps you are referring to, it’s likely not Apple that doesn’t know what to do with the space. Developers for these apps need the phone in their hands to update their apps and catch up with the new technology.
Think of Microsoft and a new XBox release. It’s not Microsoft’s job to create and update every game for their system. Other companies have to create, develop, and innovate their own content for the platform. And just like a new XBox that doesn’t have many games out on launch day, iPhone app devs need some time to develop solutions.

I cannot believe I'm saying this either but I may return the X and get an 8 Plus, or Note 8. I am going to give the X a solid week of use and see where I'm at, but at this point, like you, I find the size of the screen too small: the tall, skinny screen isn't doing it for me. This, on top of the many other things I've mentioned here.
I'm typing this on a new 15" MacBook Pro, of which the keyboard sucks. I thought to myself... that it didn't seem like anyone at Apple really used this thing which is why the keyboard is bad.
Now, with the iPhone X, it's seeming to me that it's more design by committee, and less about anyone at Apple using this thing. The whole thing seems wrong. The odd size. The notch. The OLED screen with the blue tint. The camera bump is annoying...
Wow... I made it to where you started talking down the MacBook Pro keyboard and had to stop.
The new MBP keyboard has to be one of the best laptop keyboards I’ve ever used. It is fantastic.
I put a keyboard protector on it and it quieted down the keys and gave them a very slightly different feel when typing. I wasn’t looking for either of those things but I’m adaptable and the keyboard is so nice that it can take a silicon cover and still be superb.
Maybe you should try a keyboard protector out. They are made super thin, fit wonderfully, and are removable and washable. And cheap ($13 or so on Amazon and highly rated).
