Most of the complaints here seem to be from Plus model users. My complaints:
  • Coming from an SE, it’s yuge. My upgrade from the 5S to the 6+ didn’t last a week, so migrated to the 6, which was tolerable, but still had a less comfortable footprint than the 5S. I still used it for a year, then moved on to the SE. I suspect that many 4x/5x/SE users will find the X too big, but for me it’s the upper limit of what I find comfortable, so it’s not a dealbreaker due to screen upgrade. The screen is gigantic next to the 4” models, which was intellectually obvious but still jarring when physically seeing them side by side.
  • The stretch to reach Control Center. I hold the phone in my left hand, so having CC in the opposite corner relative to my thumb is in the absolute worst area for such a frequently used utility.
  • I definitely prefer Face ID over Touch ID, since it effectively eliminates unlocking as an explicit gesture, but the range is limited, which is why I can't get it to work in my under-dash car mount for CarPlay (but can still use CP when the phone is locked), and why some people are having trouble getting the phone to unlock on their desk. Nilay Patel did a follow-up to his erratic results with Face ID unlocks, and was told by Apple that it’s optimized for up to 20”. Nilay has a habit, when walking outdoors, of looking at his phone from extended arm’s distance. Most users arch their arm when looking at their phone, so they won't run into that problem.
  • I’d prefer the Home Indicator to only display when the screen is touched. Like a previous poster, I don’t like see the white bar in the Kindle app, though it doesn’t disgust me nearly enough to return the phone.
  • Some physical elements I already knew to expect: rounded edges, the side-mounted wake button, and the camera bump. The SE has flat edges, a flush lens, and a top-mounted wake button. With the X, I'm always hitting the wake button accidentally every other time I grab the phone. Though I never use cases (I don't drop phones), I've ordered one this time for traction and to level out the camera bump.

Is it really normal though? I don't think so.

I see a ton of reports of this on Pixel 2's on youtube. My iPhone X looks pretty much exactly the same. How come then with other OLED screen, the blue shift isn't there, or its so minimal that its hardly noticeable.

There are also reports that some Pixel 2's don't have the shift.

Lastly, why then would the original Pixel not have the shift as seen on this comparison video? BTW, my iPhone X blue shift looks exactly the the Pixel 2 here:

Another video of two Pixel 2's one exhibiting that blue shift:

Yup. It's OLED. Blue shift is part of the game. It used to be weirder.

F*** #Apple that tiny #iphoneX is ********! Returning it! Why charge all that money?

Wanted to like the #iPhoneX but after a full day with it, I miss the 8 Plus. X feels like a cute toy compared to 8 Plus. Meh, returning...

Have to say. I hate the notch and don’t find myself getting “used” to it. Stupid design if you ask me. #iPhoneX #Apple

#iPhoneX impressions #3: I.. still hate OLED. It's inoffensive by OLED standards, but it still shimmers & shifts color like an OLED

My only “annoyance” and not really a complaint is that I️ can’t just flick apps up to close them from the app switcher until I’ve held down and the red x comes up. I️ get why, I️ just wish it was slightly more fluid. Other than that, I️ have seriously fallen in love with this device and I️ came from a 7 plus.

The notch...

Because it makes it clear I put my glass screen protector on very slightly crooked :( I actually don’t mind the notch at all.

I love my X, wonderful upgrade from a 5s, but it would be nice if Face ID could work in landscape or upside down. Very minute complaint though.

I'm not sure if they heard you in Cupertino. You might try to shout a little louder. But in all seriousness most if not all of these "issues" were known beforehand. Do I wish the phone were a little larger? Yes, I do. That's my only gripe. As far as Face ID goes, it's going to get even better with updates.

Ok, it's now Day 2 folks. There are things I like about the X, as I've said.

Here is something I have learned and is a truism about the iPhone X:

The bezels are built into the software.
The bezels are built into the software.
The bezels are built into the software.

Remember that. What happens is the safe zone stops at where the curve of the screen starts on the forehead and chin of the device. So while those areas have some use, in its general implementation, they will be cut off from having menu bars, etc. in Apps. Therefore, the all screen aspect of the X isn't really all screen: you lose it. It's part of the price you pay for the notch and home bar. But it's also because of how bloody rounded the corners are: hard to have consistent menu bars there because they get cut off by the curves. It's horrible. And so cutting off the forehead and chin from housing things like menu bars in Apps is necessary.

All of my initial issues and then some are still present:
  • I don't like how narrow it is compared to my previous Plus. Everything is shrunk.
  • I don't like the notch: that is not going away for me.
  • The blue tint on tilt sucks, period.
  • I don't like the reduced screen size compared to the Plus: once and for all, no, it is not the same size screen as the Plus. You do not get the same usable screen real estate... it's less.
  • I don't like the home bar that's pretty much always there.
  • The camera bump is annoying as ever: because this device is so much smaller physically than a Plus, and because the camera bump is now vertical instead of horizontal, it's totally in the way (fingers slide over it or rest on it frequently).
  • No battery percentage in status bar: slightly annoying.
  • No Cellular data type display in the status bar (e.g., LTE, 3G) as well as carrier (e.g., ATT, Bell, Rogers, etc.). It's not displayed. So you don't know if you are on LTE or 3G. You don't know if you're roaming on another carrier because you can't see what network you're roaming on. Annoying. Even swiping to Control Centre, I can't see whether I'm on LTE or what! Only with Wifi turned off.
  • No AM or PM on the clock: slightly annoying.
  • Reachability: gesture is slightly difficult to master.
  • FACE ID doesn't always work for a number of reasons. Annoying.
  • No tabbed and expanded App mode like on Plus iPhones. That means no tabbed browsing. No expanded Mail interface. Or for Notes. Etc.
  • Landscape sucks on this device, period. Partly because of the above, and also because of the keyboard being stretched out with thinner keys, and less content because of how narrow the screen is.
  • Thing heats up big time doing certain things. Will see how this goes over the next few days.
I agree with most of this. And yes, no expanded interfaces makes this for me less usable than my 7+. I don’t really like holding a plate-sized phone so thought I’d like the smaller form factor, didn’t research enough to realize everything we would lose. I could have opted for the 8+ but I know myself, wouldn’t have been happy knowing there’s a X. I love losing the home button, love the glass, love how it feels in my hand. Face ID working perfectly. I can live with the rest. Here’s hoping for an X+ next year.

I have tried a new usb-c quick charger, iPad charger, and wireless charger and for all the battery percentage never changes. If I restart it shoots up when it turns back on. But I’ve been plugged into the quick charger for 30 minutes and it hasn’t crept up even one percent.

I didn't think of the car angle. I sometimes need to unclock my phone in my car mount (if not already unlocked with Waze running). Would be a real pain if FaceID wasn't reliable for this this.

Yeah, do a Google search for Pixel 2 XL screen problems. I guess this is an OLED problem. I don’t really mind as the OLED in general looks great.

I was really put off by that extra space at the bottom of the keyboard. I don’t mind the notch at all, in fact I think it gives the phone a distinctive character. But the empty space at the bottom of the keyboard looks so amateurish. Hate to bring up this cliche, but Steve would not have wanted this. There’s no way.

Sad to say--But Steve is no longer with us--not relevant whether he would have allowed it or not--it's a whole new regime.

You still haven't answered why in the video, two of the exact same phones with OLED screens yet only one is producing the shift?
I have owned both Pixel 2 varieties. The non-XL still produces blue shift but the LG screen on the XL is worse. It's part of OLED technology.

When you allow a 3 year old to play with your phone anything can happen and usually does.

Not really. He just opens lots of games. :eye roll back:

Okay. Are you closing apps you don't want him to access or are you closing apps he's opened? Just making sure you aren't force closing apps based on the various myths that exist about doing so :)

just closing to keep things neat.

The control center thing seems awful. Why not at least provide an option to choose which side it opens from so people can choose? Despite being right handed, I always use my phone with my left when using it one handed as I keep it in my left front pocket.

I think for larger phones having the wake button on the side makes sense as it's easier to press. I feel like the iPhone 5S was the last Apple phone design that truly made sense. It wasn't as slippery as a soap bar and gave some grip due to the sides and just looked really nice. Oneplus X took that design and improved it to be more comfortable and I wish Apple had stuck with that design instead of the bezel monsters they have had since iPhone 6.

It’s a bit heavy and awkward to use with one hand. I kinda wish they would make an SE sized X now, but I can deal.

Still really like the phone though.

I knew about the battery % but not the data type, that is really not good. Those 2 combined are actually quite huge imo. These are just staples of the status bar of any phone

This, to me, is the crux of the notch "fail" – losing key functionality in favor of a purely aesthetic design decision (that lots of ppl don't even think looks good)!

The worst problem in my opinion is HORRIBLE decision to make access to CC from top right corner. It's the worst idea EVER.

Try to use CC when you're walking and you've got only one hand free. Disaster.

Yeah, this seems like one of those major
aforementioned sacrifices in functionality. Granted, I haven't used the phone; but I feel like I would hate to lose the ability to swipe up for CC. It's one of the best design points of iOS, at least for one-handed use.

I love the hardware. I don’t mind the notch or camera bump at all. My only complaints are software-related, which could be fixed in an update if Apple wanted: I don’t like how you can’t swipe up once in the multi-tasker to close apps, hitting the X for each app is a pain. I also don’t like the keyboard space at the bottom and the lack of battery percentage in the corner. Otherwise, it’s great!
Actually you can swipe up to close apps. Just have to touch and hold one till delete circles appear, then swipe up to your hearts content.

Small annoyances are also mostly software related and the same as everyone else:

* Having to pause twice to open app switcher and close the apps (at least you can still swipe up to close them once the delete circle appears or it would have majorly pissed me off).

* the CC in the top right. I use it all the time, especially now that it does provide inof that you can't find on the home screen, like battery % and bluetooth. It's also kind of weird that some of the icons are placed differently between the home screen and the CC, but that's not a problem (network and wi-fi replace the time in CC, but they're on the top right in home screen). If space is too scarce, then it should be possible to at least choose which icon to display.

* No % for battery, no band information.

I can't wait until I can really test the camera, which was one of my top 3 reasons to get the X vs the 8.
