Ah that’s true. Good point on waterproofing

That was the main reason for sending it back. Now I'm starting to doubt its the best decision or not... But tbh I expect a perfect phone from Apple, and Apple agrees. The rep told me he would've returned it as well lol..

Btw I don't think the uniformity is a big problem, otherwise the youtubers would've made a big deal out of it. Or it would be a new gate thing.

Pfff who uses a case :D Well other things were getting stuck in it and I tried removing them with a piece of paper, thats how I know. I saw metal so Im pretty sure the waterproof seal was affected.
I can see metal too......just like the screen wasn’t attached perfectly centred.

I don’t think the water resistance is compromised. If you have a look at the ifixit teardown, you’ll see how much of a seal there is under the screen. The gasket between the screen and metal isn’t the thing that keeps the water out.

I'd return it anyway, it's supposed to be spot free especially when you receive it. Plus Apple is making enough profit, they might as well go through the trouble of giving you the top-notch 1300eu/dollar phone you're paying for.

I ageee, we should be able to get a perfect phone, and so did the AppleCare rep I spoke to. I just don’t think it’s going to happen. :)

I can confirm that the uniformity problem is a real issue. I had problems with both of my devices, and the issue was visible in normal use...not just with a grey test screen. :)

Hm. I guess I just shot myself in the foot then... We'll see, hopefully I get it speck free, otherwise I'll just keep pushing Apple for ways to make it right.

You only think it sucks because you don’t understand what a white box phone at launch is.
Good job at reading the follow up comments.

But either way my choice as a customer is to not receive a white box replacement but a brand new sealed retail model.

I had a perfect (as far as I could see using the dark grey and lowest brightness) but had a small gap between the housing and the screen so sent it back to Apple and getting a new one... Am I crazy for re-entering the screen lottery :D
i have the same issue like i can fit a paper inside the gap between the screen and the stainless frame but i think thats pretty normal like almost everyone has that problem i dont think it will compromise the waterproofing because of the glue that wraps around the frame.

If that's the standard we can expect now I'm disappointed in Apple. None of my older iPhones has that problem so maybe it's because they need to rush the X due to high demand this time??

Well I just discovered this issue on mine (3rd one). Auto brightness on and in a dark room setting an alarm- real world task. There is a black line that goes diagonally across the screen from top left to bottom right! Starts right under “New” and goes diagonally down and right. Crazy. I’ll give it one more try, picking up my 4th X later today and if that one is bad I am giving up. Don’t have time for this madness. Do you guys see what I’m talking about?

I see it in the pic, but the question is do you see it anywhere else beside that Clock app?
What I learned is that it’s the structure of the X screen. They all show some blemishes in that app in the dark. Mine has some darker spots as well, but I don’t see them in normal use.

Very very faint when watching videos that contain dark backgrounds. Barely visible. But it’s there. I can accept mininal banding on dark screens like others have posted, but that line doesn’t seem right.

I see. Well, yeah, then if you can see it while looking at normal content, I’d return it. It shouldn’t be like that!

I just returned mine today, I'll be really mad if its a screen issue on all of them.

If the fixed/replacement phone has the same issue im going to demand a refund rather than replacement and just wait it out until the next batch.

So, I cannot look at the iPhone X even a second without burn in my eyes, since my eyes are less tolerable since using X.
As an experiment, I have tried with sunglasses on. I feel less burn in my eyes. I can bear looking at it maybe a minute.

I have a feeling that it might be more of a blue light issue than PWM from OLED.

Then I found this website.

And ordered some of blue light blocking glasses from amazon. I will keep you guys updated.

I have no such diagonal line when doing your test. Perfectly black uniform screen on my X.

It’s about the dark greys on oled screens, I think he means grey , you need to go into a dark room , use this photo on full screen , and turn down the brightness, then you can see stuff

If you can’t see it in normal use, then don’t go looking for it.

Personally, I can see uniformity problems in the alarm app, so for me that’s a problem, but if I could only see it on a specific test screen, then it wouldn’t worry me.

Issue is, I can see it in normal places, I can see it on the reddit app on dark mode, I can see it on group me app, Twitter app, I use dark modes on those apps .... I can see it in the clock app, the stocks app, I can also see it super fairly In the day time, whites are shaded a little red near the top of my screen.

I have no such diagonal line when doing your test. Perfectly black uniform screen on my X.
It was visible during normal use not only in the clock app, but Amazon music. Using auto brightness and not just at lowest manual brightness. When I viewed any dark gray background.

Apple tech saw it at the store and said it isn’t normal and swapped it out for a new phone. All good.

Yeah.. non real world tests.. smh..

But I’ll bite.. for the sake of argument how can I see a completely blank screen? One with zero icons?

Again, how are setting an alarm daily, viewing clock daily, Amazon Music, and viewing videos with dark gray backgrounds “non real world” tests. If you don’t have any issues kudos to you, why even post here. Apple tech confirmed my issue and swapped it right away.

In general on here people need to chill with attitudes. These issues are real, be it horrible pink shift or bad banding. Some phones are affected FAR more than others. If you haven’t had the pleasure of getting stuck with one you have no idea. If I want to replace mine and Apple had no problem with it why shouldn’t I? People post on here to check if others have the same issues. No need to post shade and skepticism toward people who do have bad screens.
