OCD to the max. The problem was even worse with LCDs. This screen is so beautiful the only thing I can think to complain of is the slight blue shift.

Do you have an iPhone X? Have you used it outside in the dark? Or at night in your bed?

Because if you have, and your screen exhibited this, I genuinely believe you would notice it and be bothered by it as well.

The screen automatically dims to the lowest setting.

I use my screen late at night every night. Looks perfect when it dims. I leave on Auto Brightness. And that does NOT auto dim to lowest possible brightness. At least not on my X running 11.1.2. Sounds like some of you are using a different phone than me. My screen at all brightnesses is perfectly uniform.

All the pics that have been posted here look like a perfectly normal screen in darkest setting.

I still maintain this is not a real world test. No one would ever be looking at a completely blank screen in bed. There’d be some app loaded and on screen. This is an OCD thing, gang. Load an app and get on with life. Lol.. or — return it to Apple and deal with the funny looks you get from Apple reps as they wonder “who the he11 does that anyway?!”.. lol..

Trolls aside, depending on how bad your display is, you can absolutely see it in dim lighting even using something as simple as Safari's reader mode (dark theme). It's background isn't black, so despite there being text on the screen, you can see discolouration. In my case it was a green tint in the top left corner which got darker towards the centre.

I went to the Apple store for the second time and the employee took my phone to the back to see it under less light and immediately came out and told me "Its very noticeable" on Safari reader and got me another replacement right away.

This one is finally perfect enough. There's minor banding but only in "non-real-world-tests" i.e. viewing a solid near-black image with no content on the screen, with night shift on and the lights turned off. Good enough for me!

I haven't done the test that you have, but I have noticed some irregularities in the display. Nothing to get worked up over, but they exist. And certainly an acceptable trade-off to all the other gains and positives I've seen with this new display.

Ok replacement here.

Not perfect but quite an improvement. Most importantly the pink shift is almost imperceptible and across the entire top not just the right side.

Only have regular old blue shift now which I barely even notice unless trying to see it. Seems it was worth being picky this time.

Im not running that near grey, cus nothing nasty has shown up in all usage for me

I LOVE my panel

looked at 3 total, too.

getting a good OLED is imperative to a solid X experience imo, especially bc the screen is SO much of that experience

I have some unevenness on my panel and have looked very closely at 4 different iPhone X panels - which all have it is a varying degree. I then looked at as many other OLED phones as I could and they all demonstrated it to varying degree I have pretty intense banding on my screen and a dark line down the lefthand side, but I cannot see it in regular use - only when my screen is very dim and a uniform colour is displayed. I have come to terms that this is pretty regular behaviour and that there is almost no chance of getting a panel that doesn't do this. For people that are saying their panels are perfect - I would suspect that they aren't as OCD as I am, are using a different shade of grey, or the lightning conditions are hiding it. I wouldn't argue that they don't have good panels, just that if I had a chance to see their panel in my own conditions, I could probably find the imperfections...

people have way too much time on their hands.

Well... When buying something that is 1600$ CAD, I can understand people taking time to ensure that it is what they are being sold in the best condition possible. In reality, Apple ought to understand that the higher the price, the higher the expectations - not that this changes their QA. HOWEVER, when people are returning phones and feeling ripped off over what I assume is regular OLED panel behaviour, it is likely easier to just accept it and enjoy it, or return it and move on.

I’ve had oled phones before and not had any hang ups. Maybe it’s the brightness (looking at even 2014 phones these are a lot brighter) and the price/expectation as well. If you have a line of pink shift down on each off angle view it is quite distracting, not what I’d want in any device unless there was no choice.

My other half's iPhone X has a less noticeable shift in colour with a dark background/low backlight, but has pink banding around the phone; they don't notice it, so there is no harm. Mine, on the other hand, has no pink banding but more low light imperfections... Always a trade-off.. . right...

Yes, its a $1000 item. Lots of more expensive items/purchases have issues too. No product is perfect.

i agree oyyy

mine is not that bad though like everyone else here in this thread.

I had a perfect (as far as I could see using the dark grey and lowest brightness) but had a small gap between the housing and the screen so sent it back to Apple and getting a new one... Am I crazy for re-entering the screen lottery :D

Depends how big the gap is but in general yes you are crazy the lottery is a bad game

You could fit a piece of paper between the housing and the screen. If I get a bad screen I'll just return it again, I've had so many problems now with my X bc of UPS screwing up etc that I know my order number by head lol

Good luck!

I had three X two that were Verizon unlocked and mine Which is att unlocked

Kept the latter cause it easily had best screen and don’t plan on needing cdma any time soon or ever

One had an almost passable screen and the other was atrocious

I have a gap along the left and top edge, banding, poor uniformity, and pink screen edges all the way round, and this is a replacement. My first device had all of those issues minus the gap.

I’m getting another replacement, but if it’d just been the gap, I would’ve kept it.

You seem to have bad luck :(

I didnt pay with CC so Im not eligible for advanced (express?) replacement and have to wait for my new X while using my old 5s.... Getting really annoyed because the Apple rep told me the new one would be here coming week, just called again wondering wether UPS screwed up again or not and got told it would be delivered in 2 weeks. Apple better offer me something good because Im not satisfied at all

That seems to be the consensus, anyhow I expect Apple quality like im used to. I did not have a single problem with my 5s, I expect the same with my X. Im willing to drop their prices exactly because they deliver superb quality.

The pink edges on some units really annoys me

I’d have kept it too

How often are you sticking a piece of paper in wherever you are? Especially if using a case

Pfff who uses a case :D Well other things were getting stuck in it and I tried removing them with a piece of paper, thats how I know. I saw metal so Im pretty sure the waterproof seal was affected.

Ah that’s true. Good point on waterproofing
