The iphone SE is the best value for money phone apple has ever put out IMO. All the others are poorer value (not bad phones in themselves just not worth their asking price), and iphone X is at the bottom of the barrel.

Since you own a Porsche, I’m sure you know that price is not the same as value. We may have to pay the same price for an iPhone X, but it seems too high to you because you do not value what it offers. There are things you value about owning a Porsche that are easy for other car lovers to understand, but to someone who is not a car lover it seems like a rediculous amount of money to pay for a car that can’t haul very much.

For someone who doesn’t value what the iPhone X has to offer, the price will not be worth it if their needs can be met just as well (or even better) by a less expensive model. For those of us who do value what the iPhone X has to offer, the price paid is worthwhile. Of course I would rather pay less, but I was willing to pay $1,150 for a 256GB iPhone X. The dual camera in a smaller than plus iPhone is what I value most about it, but I also enjoy many other things about the X. I like FaceID so much that I wish my iPad Pro had it. I also like the absence of the home button because the interface feels more fluid and I feel like it’s faster to switch apps or return to the home screen. It’s not perfect. As dazzling as the OLED is to look at, the LCD of my iPad is more consistent in low light and from an angle. I do love the extra height of the display. I didn’t realize how nice that would be. The notch doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Anyway, it’s good to know what matters to you and what doesn’t so you can decide whether the price delivers enough value for your needs. The iPhone X was definitely a good buy for me. I’d love a Porsche as well, but I have a harder time rationalizing that one. ;)

I always find it amusing how many correlate an iPhone to a car. Its usually never an appropriate comparison either. The OP says "Poor value for the money". Obviously everybody will value how they spend their money differently, all that matters is that everybody has different preferences on what they like. Most know exactly what they are purchasing with the iPhone X and like it for what it is.

Like anything if you use it enough and make good use out of it then it’s worth it

It’s like people who pay £200 a month for a bike if they use it 4-5 times a week then it’s worth it to them

The iPhone X is by far the best phone I could buy and enjoy it very much. Easily best device I’ve ever had.

It all depends on the user and what they get out of it. For me it’s worth the upgrade over my 7 plus.

I think a Porsche is too expensive and poor for the price.
Only 2 seats (normally) so can’t fit all the family in,
costs too much to run,
insurance too expensive,
I commute to work by train so would only drive at weekends for fun,
too wide so won’t fit in my garage.

But if they made a smaller cheaper, 4 seater, fuel efficient Porsche then I’d consider buying one!

I’m off to the Porsche forums to post this in a new thread and see if any else feels the same, hoping for some positive replies! Wish me luck!

I wish my iPad Pro had face ID too.

Like everything else in life price is relative, for someone who can afford a porsche (unless you are knee deep in debt) you shouldn't blink an eye at the price of the iPhone, People with wealth spend a lot of money on things that are much more useless.... I personally use my iPhone every day for so many things that the price is worth it for me.... Other than the lack of touch ID what is it about the iPhone X that is not up to your standards? is it slower than previous iphones? is the battery life shorter? Tons of people here had an issue with losing touch ID but have come around to like face ID, so perhaps you should have tried the phone for a little bit before cancelling your order?

I drive a Nissan Altima (fully loaded, mind you) and the price difference between an iPhone 8 and the X I ended up with was nothing for me so I would think somebody who is able to justify having a luxury performance vehicle would have even less trouble with it.

What's really keeping you from getting one? I'm (as are many others around here I'm sure) dying to know.

So I have had pretty much every model of iPhone since 4, certainly would never miss out on the hardware change versions.

I ordered iPhone X, and then decided to cancel it because I think the price is ridiculous.

The touch ID missing is a problem for me because I use my phone in many different places, including places where face id would not work. And many people are complaining about how bad face id is.

I'm not a stranger to spending stupidly, I have a stupidly expensive run car (Porsche) and spend thousands on servicing. But notch and no touch id, and smaller usable screen overall just seems ridiculous for the price and I decided not to pay for it.

If they release the rumored cheaper model without the OLED screen this year then I will consider buying it.

Anyone else feel similar? Poor value for money?
Yes a porsche is poor value for the money.

Interesting post and being a Porsche owner, I thought I would add some info.
1. The top two selling models for Porsche in 2017 had more than two seats. Even the 3rd top seller, the 911, technically has 4 seats but only tiny children can fit in the back seats. Then the 4th best, the Panamera, has 4 seats.
2. Doesn't cost me anything more to run it than the gas I need to buy, same as my DD. Now, if you had said maintenance, Yes, the dealers rip us off pretty seriously.
3. Insurance for mine is the cheapest per year among the three cars we own. 2012 Corvette, 2016 Audi, 2013 Boxster.
4. Got me there, but I am retired so I can drive it anytime i want.
5. Too wide? So what are you driving that can park in your garage? Seriously! No Porsche that I am aware of is too wide for a standard single car garage.

Back on topic, the X seems to be a nice phone, I might even put the X in Porsche company cost wise when it comes to buying it.

The price is high but love my X. Face ID works great for me. I love the size and the screen is amazing.

I felt I would miss larger size phones at first but have really fallen in love with the size of the X.
Ditto. No complaints from me.

Nope, not at all. I love my X and it's definitely worth the money I will spend on it. Face ID works great, the form factor is perfect, no more bulky Plus size or dumb bezels, screen is amazing, and the gestures are fast and fluid. I don't feel the same way as you at all.

I share your sentiment. It's definitely the best phone I've ever had and I'm happy to be rid of the bulkiness of the 6s Plus (my previous phone). Yes, the X is expensive, but I feel that it was worth the money.

I don’t get the hate for op

I have an x now jailbroken and love it

But after the dust has settled I genuinely don’t think it’s worth $1000+ Coming from 6s or 7

Fortunately I nabbed one $549/2yr contract through att (loyalty dept special offer)

I still have my 7+ and yes OLED is significantly better especially with true black dark mode jailbroken. And photos/videos. And the form factor is much preferable. And it looks nice. And battery is stellar compared to iOS 11 7+ And wireless charging albeit slow is a nice thing to finally have in Apple world. But late as hell to the game. And with Auto Unlock except notifications on lock screen Face ID is mostly a treat. Before then, it’s nice but touchID2 was/is really really really good imo

But the thing is outside of being a little long in the tooth design wise and shorter on battery but not truly horrendous there is nothing wrong with my 7+ At all even the display is ridiculously nice for LED tHey calibrated and maxed out that tech’s capabilities beyond what I expected barring not true blacks.

We’ve reached a point of product maturity and market saturation despite buggy releases where phones are good enough. Even to people that piss their money away on other things. If you enjoy it and you use it and you see value in it, screw what outsiders think or don’t think. Imo

Having said all that I put my sim in my 7+ for a couple days. Couldn’t wait to get back to my x. So yeah I enjoy it a lot I just think it’s overpriced beyond apple’s overpriced pricing

But then again still coming down from putting down $879 on my 128 7+ :O

Only time I ever paid full price for an iPhone and had all but 5s and 8 now (and 5c)

Exactly. These "validate my decision" threads are pointless.

LOL....Then don't read them. Posting how pointless these types of threads are is also quite pointless. You validated your decision just as the OP is trying to validate his.

For me, I love my X (25gb). I love the OLED screen, the form factor, the camera, and gestures. I am not a fan of this generations FaceID (for unlocking) and hope that the one thing that is improved is the distance I need to have the phone from my face in order to unlock.

I think people are just tired of the dumb posts saying the same thing over and over. If you don't want to buy the X, then don't. Problem solved, let's move on.

Truth be told since many folks now lease phones the "sticker price" is somewhat irrelevant unless you intend to pay it off. Similar to leasing a car the payment is the factor most people are concerned about. If you trade your phone in after a year, you never paid the full price for it, only the portion you used. If you buy your phones outright then my point is moot. But value is all in the eye of the beholder.

I'm more interested in the places FaceID doesn't work. Could I hear about those? And not trying to bash anyone or invalidate anyone's experiences, it's just that I've yet to encounter a situation where FaceID failed me so I'm curious.

The more I use the phone, the more I think that for me, FaceID is the superior method of authentication. Your mileage obviously may vary.

Very good point. I will spend $500 on my X over the course of a year, for about $1.36 per day. It's really not that big of a purchase.
