I don’t get the hate for op
If I don't care for something, I usually don't find a related forum, then start a thread and post my reasons why I won't get X (in this case, X meaning whatever product).

Everyone here knows why I don't have an X. But no one here can claim I STARTED a thread to proclaim why I did not get one.

Every comment I made was done in an existing thread.

Giving your opinion is fine. Starting a new thread to give your opinion as fact is an entirely different matter. People get upset over that because it's NOT a fact for them.

Both fair points. There’s also plenty of these kinda threads that could just be added a comment to instead of new thread

It just amazes me the amount of posting on this topic no matter which side you’re on. Defend the phone, bash the phone. So silly. It’s JUST A PHONE. Why the same people post the same things over and over in numerous threads? Is it that important that your opinion is heard over and over and to try to convince the other side that they’re wrong and you’re right?
The defenders, yeah we get it, it’s the best phone ever.
The bashers, we get you too. You don’t think it’s worth it and it’s no better than the other iPhones blah blah blah...

... cheaper model without the OLED screen this year then I will consider buying it...
Apple is so deer in the headlights but OLED technology has been around for 15 years.

I'm more interested in the places FaceID doesn't work. Could I hear about those? And not trying to bash anyone or invalidate anyone's experiences, it's just that I've yet to encounter a situation where FaceID failed me so I'm curious.

The more I use the phone, the more I think that for me, FaceID is the superior method of authentication. Your mileage obviously may vary.

Oh, you know... anyplace where you need to wear a mask FaceID can be a problem:
- Trying to take a mid-operation selfie with the patient's open chest cavity, but that surgical mask...
- Robbing a convenience store, and your getaway car driver is trying to text you a message to remember the milk, but that ski mask...
- Performing at a kid's birthday party and you need to look up how to make a balloon unicorn, but that clown makeup...
- Need to snapchat the latest from the con, but your cosplay mask...

Other than that it's only a problem when I have half my face buried in the pillow while I'm in bed, but lifting my face an inch off the pillow does the trick. :)

I have to assume this is in jest but...

  • Trying to take a mid-operation selfie with the patient's open chest cavity, but those surgical gloves
  • Robbing a convenience store, and your getaway car driver is trying to text you a message to remember the milk, but those gloves you're wearing so you don't leave fingerprints
  • Performing at a kid's birthday party and you need to look up how to make a balloon unicorn, but those goofy clown gloves?
  • Need to snapchat the latest from the con, but your cardboard hands??? https://labo.nintendo.com/

LOL...That was funny :)
There are situations where FaceID just fails For me. The biggest issue I have is when my phone is on a charging stand, and it's just out of reach of its scanning area and I need to bring the phone closer to my face. Or, when I place my X down on a charging pad. I need to lift it to unlock it. These are minor irritations, but still irritating.

Now that the phony Throttlegate is no longer important we’re back to the rich man poor man conversation. It’s always something. Can’t just let the perfect product be perfect.

Why these posts don't get closed is beyond me. How many have there been in the last couple of months? Just forum litter really.
It's all the same stuff.

The threads about how the iPhone 5 was too big, Scuffgate, how no one would use TouchID when the 5s launched, the 6+ was too damn big, so on and so on.

Someone always has a complaint about something and always will.

Just as I thought. Amateur problems. And who removes their clown makeup? Obviously FaceID get's configured in full clown-mode, and once it's on, it stays on. Just basic clowning 101.

Amateurs, amateurs everywhere.

Interesting post and being a Porsche owner, I thought I would add some info.
1. The top two selling models for Porsche in 2017 had more than two seats. Even the 3rd top seller, the 911, technically has 4 seats but only tiny children can fit in the back seats. Then the 4th best, the Panamera, has 4 seats.
2. Doesn't cost me anything more to run it than the gas I need to buy, same as my DD. Now, if you had said maintenance, Yes, the dealers rip us off pretty seriously.
3. Insurance for mine is the cheapest per year among the three cars we own. 2012 Corvette, 2016 Audi, 2013 Boxster.
4. Got me there, but I am retired so I can drive it anytime i want.
5. Too wide? So what are you driving that can park in your garage? Seriously! No Porsche that I am aware of is too wide for a standard single car garage.

Back on topic, the X seems to be a nice phone, I might even put the X in Porsche company cost wise when it comes to buying it.

I'm only joking (poorly!), I'd love a Porsche!

But thanks for the feedback.

P.S. I live in the UK so most of our garages are notoriously small for our little European cars, infact our garages are mainly used for washing machines, dryers, old bikes, etc... hardly ever a car!

So the OP hates the X. Do I care? Not a shred. This is the OP's opinion, not a fact. The OP can hate on the X from now until death and it's just an opinion. It won't change whatever opinion I have, positive or negative.

Yes... I have noticed the table issue before, but it's fairly easy to fix. I have a wireless charging stand on my nightstand that is positioned in a way that is easy to unlock, although if I am in bed and need my iPhone I will probably just pick it up off the stand. I also have a stand on my desk at work (not a charging stand, but a $6 stand), so it keeps my iPhone visible at an angle and location where I can see a message arrive out of the corner of my eye, turn to look at my iPhone, and it unlocks to display full message immediately. I think about the only time I enter my passcode these days is when I am too lazy to lift my head up from the pillow.

Tell us what you REALLY think!

Go on…!

:)

Ha ha. ;) Actually, fwiw (not much to anyone but me), I think the X is a mixed lot. Brilliant hardware, especially for a first generation product. UX lacks, needs a good bit of tweaking, and for me had a lot of annoyances (which I expect Apple to solve). But really, do you care? Or, better question (that I can safely ask you): if you do care, why do you care? In your case, I am confident that you don't need me to help you solve anxieties and insecurities about a phone - even if it costs $1K.

Well I personally aim to keep the iPhone X for at least 5 years (like I did the iPhone 5 64 before that), so £1150 (for the 256GB model) isn't too much for me. I was originally going to go for the 8, but the X has more RAM so should hopefully last a bit longer than the 8. Plus the X is of course a nicer phone.

For some reason, it tends to fail more, cause it does fail sometimes, when I'm laying in bed with the lights off.

This sort of thing is what I was looking for. Interesting, I just climbed to bed, put the lights out and tried this. Yes, my free time is absolutely riveting, but also, FaceID seemed to work OK. Have to try it in the morning again, that's the time I barely recognize myself in the mirror so exciting to see how well the phone fares.
