More so than the price, the notch will be this iteration's undoing.

Can't believe apple made this mistake. It really is distracting from watching videos, photos and other apps that might have to work around it.

Videos default to playing without the notch blocking any of the video. Perhaps try the device before making incorrect generalizations.

I guess i am undecided. I feel like raising the price of the 8 and then the lack of features makes it underwhelming, but the X is so expensive. I have never used a samsung phone before, but it's kind of annoying that the galaxy is in the price range of the 8 and include a bigger screen and some other features.

I use the iPhone 5 and the S6 Edge as I like to keep my private and professional life separate. Having used both phones for 3 years at least now, I love the reliability of my iPhone and I think for it's price, the S6 has served me well.

Both my phones are at the end of their life and I am in a mindset of just having one phone. The oneplus is offering me great value for money, the S8 is a great phone but I have some issues with my S6 now that make me want to tear my hair out and I adore my iPhone 5 simply for it's longevity and the ease of use I've had for 4.5 years now.

I've accepted now that Apple charges a premium for their products. The thing I'm finding hard to grapple with are-

1) Those rubbish EarPods with the adaptor. For the price, I wouldn't be wrong to want the AirPods included in the box. But, okay, I still accept it.

2) The base variant of 64 GB is just ludicrous. There's no way I'm doing 3-4 years with that phone without having to move my data every 6 months.

3) The iPhone X has fast charging but even the brick for that isn't included in the box.

All three of these points are well covered in the other two phones and they come for far far cheaper.

If the Pixel 2 fixes its Bluetooth issues from the first gen, I'm in line for that phone.

Does the Pixel 2 run iOS though? JK, I'm going to look into it cause I feel like exploring my options.

First of all, everyone who likes what Samsung or LG has done wrt "bezel free screens" better than the X don't even deserve to have an iPhone, and I mean any iPhone. The X is the best, most functional and most honest smartphone design possible at this point in time, fall 2017. No useless bended display with built-in perma-glare, no fingerprint sensor bolted on the backside, no artificial "software bezels". Embrace the notch, bit**es. Of course, CPU, GPU, OS and eco system are also miles ahead of any "competition".

And for the millionth time, the notch will NOT cut off video/photo content UNLESS YOU MAKE IT SO. The default will be that video/photo content is shown in the original aspect ratio with black bezels on the left and right. Only if you double tap to go "full screen", the screen will be filled, including the "ears".
Calm down there Jony Ive

The more I see pictures of it, the more I like it. I can't wait to get mine. I hate Apple for charging so much for it, but I can appreciate the tech packed in it. I think the notch is here to stay and will become as noticeable as the home button.

Internet etiquette dictates that when someone requests source/proof; you provide it.

Feeling entitled today? Believe what you want to believe or (literally) search for the truth. But thinking about the point at hand for a second would probably suffice as well: do you really believe that Apple would not let you watch videos in their original aspect ratio?

Apple wasn't a company that disappoints people. Things have changed.. And now, I believe that Apple could do anything; silly or not.

You seem to like the product, and I understand, if price was irrelevant I would appreciate it too. But let's be honest, this is not the best iPhone for many. The storage capacity is ridiculous for base model, wireless charging not even provided in this price range (1159 euro here in Europe, it's 1377,55 USD). The faceID is not better than touchID, everybody knows it, even Apple, that is why they've worked so hard to integrate touchID in the screen for months, but just couldn't do it in time so decided to settle for faceID. Don't get me wrong, I think faceID is fine, just that touchID inside the screen would be way better and will come in a few years to let us forget about faceID.

Really I encourage everyone to give the Pixel 2 a hard look. Reason: Project Fi is head and shoulders above other carriers. It's the carrier that really matters, especially if you travel abroad. Fi can't be beat. Traveling abroad with Fi is just brilliant. Hi speed, no extortionist charges, no SIM swaps.

The only android phone i used was in 2011 and it was the etc thunderbolt which was horrible.

Sorry but as a recent iOS adoptee I’ve tried to stay out of the Android/Apple row cos I moved for reasons. However there is nothing in X that hasn’t been done before, better.

Now you could possibly claim, one of my reasons for switching, that it just works. But just working isn’t advancing.

The only correct thing in your post is that the ecosystem is better. Sorry.

You're right that the price in Europe is too high. You're wrong thinking Apple wanted TouchID in the X; they didn't. You're also wrong thinking TouchID will ever come back. Apple says FaceID is more secure (1.000.000:1 vs. 50.000:1 for TouchID). If it is slower right now than TouchID – which we still don't know –, they will just make it faster in the next version.

TouchID will definitely be back once they can get it under the screen. TouchID is more convenient plain and simple. Especially with Apple Pay where you now have to hold the phone up to your face like a fool to authenticate.

The CPU is not way ahead? Have you been living under a rock for the last few years?
Facial recognition has been done before and better? Is this a joke?
I could go on, but why. You have already shown you have no idea what you are talking about.

You will wait a very long time for TouchID to come back ... but hope springs eternal, right?

So much whining on these threads about the notch. I kind of think it’s cool. Destinctive even. I’m going to order one so I guess I’ll see how it feels to actually use it before I judge it

I hope everyone here continues to dislike the iPhone X... so I'll have a much easier time pre-ordering one :) Thanks all!

+1

But you know all the MacRumors regulars that say no now, are going to order one any way.
[doublepost=1505429600][/doublepost]I would like to see an Apple Battery case for the X.

Notch is cool, it makes the phone smaller.

iPhone X.1 should have TouchID back next year.

My eyes were drawn to the "notch" thoughout presentation. I couldn't help it.
The "notch" wont be there in 2018 for iPhone XI so I see iPhone X as a compromise.
Based on this, and price, I'll pass.

Do you have any knowledge about this? Or are you just assuming it'll be so hated that they'll find a way to remove it next year/software black out? Curious.
[doublepost=1505431194][/doublepost]
The notch was deliberately made like that. This way, your eye is drawn to it and the camera, enabling the face lD.

So your eye is constantly drawn to the notch, which lets you use the phone.

Genius.

When watching a movie or making a call, just make sure you keep glancing at the notch. It's not hard as it's like right there.

Can't believe I didn't think of this! :D
[doublepost=1505433640][/doublepost]
I’m in! I do think using Apple Pay with face ID looks to be more cumbersome. Today we hold it to the reader with thumb on home button and done. Now it looks like a double tap of the side button, bring phone to face, and then back down to the reader.

Don't forget, you have to look the sensor straight in the lens hole, otherwise it won't think you're paying attention to it :)

This is what i'd appreciate clarification on - will there be black bezels on the left & right only when viewing at original aspect ratio, or will the bezels be left, right, top & bottom?

The notch doesn't bother me per se, it's its implementation together with original aspect ratio not filling up at least top to bottom edges in landscape mode.
