Tall screens that are not 16:9 are straight gimmicks. It’s samsung that thought how do we innovate screen size without making the phone wider. Then everyone else followed . There is really nothing great about tall screens. About 0.00001% of web content is designed for portrait. The real innovation would have been to make a bezelless 16:9 phone.

Web content is designed for a big desktop screen. :)

But thanks to responsive websites... you can view the content on any size and any shape screen.

I browse websites all the time on my phone in portrait. I assume most people do. These "taller" screens mean you can see more of that content vertically.

And list-view apps also make use of the "taller" screens too. Think Twitter, Instagram, etc.

So I don't understand the hate of "taller" screens... especially when most people hold their phones in portrait. :p

I don’t agree that it always shows more content vertically (or that it would be better if it did) since width, font size and picture size is a factor a enjoyment. Since the screen is more narrow - all those on screen elements have to be smaller to fit more or even the same amount of content on the screen. I am not sure if more of harder to see / use (typing) is better than less of larger

Sure. Will this do? :)

Could you please compare some screens with the text size set to small?

Hi guys!
This morning I received a brand new spigen cover for my future iP X.
I just want you to show how bigger the new X will be compared to my old iP6!
I think the display will be wider than 6/7/8 models and not the same as I read before...unless the edges will be thicker than the previous model (but I don’t think so).

is anyone else out there concerned that the 'x' will feel awkwardly small after using plus models for years? I realize the screen is bigger but the real estate in which to navigate that screen in terms of physical space is much smaller. I'm almost wondering if this might not be a reason to grab the 8plus this year and hope for a plus variant of the x down the road. Thoughts?

I think the ipX is too big!

Assuming there was nothing else wrong with the phone...which isn't the case.

I am really disappointed by the screen ratio of iPhone X. Having been using iPhone 6 Plus, 6s Plus, and then 7 Plus, I can't stand the strange and elongated shape of iPhone X that has narrower screen and displays fewer words and contents horizontally. It just looks awkward and weired.
I was about to place my order, but I will wait for the possible iPhone X Plus in the future. The screen size of Plus models are perfect and Apple should keep selling them. If I wanted to upgrade, I would go with 8 Plus instead of X. I can use a Plus model to work and to do remote access of other computers with larger screen area, but it will be really cramped to do it on an X due to the strange screen ratio and effectively smaller usable screen area.

iPhone Screen Area. These numbers are based on the schematics below supplied by the Apple.com website

Screen Area Calculations

X
135.75mm x 63.12mm (Screen without cut out
8568.54 mm sq
34 x 4.99 (Area of cut out)
169.66 mm sq
8399 mm sq (Actual screen area)
13.02 Square Inches

8 Plus
121.54mm x 68.36mm
8308.5 mm sq
12.88 Square Inches

8
104.05mm x 58.5mm
6087 mm Sq
9.44 Square Inches

This makes the screen area of the X 1.09% larger than the 8 Plus and 37.92 % Large than the 8

All the info can be confirmed against the document provided by Apple at the following URL

This is the screen area

4.62 mm

So simple math tell us that the X screen is 5.05 inches of usable 16:9 ratio screen space. So it's screen size will be seen as right between the 8 and 8 plus, but in a smaller package.

Thought it was 5.5"

135.75mm x 63.12mm = 2.15 aspect ratio for the X
121.54mm x 68.36mm = 1.78 aspect ratio the the 8 plus.

63.12 mm wide screen is the limiting factor. So the equivalent length of the screen would be 63.12 x 1.78 = 112.35 mm

The X screen in the same aspect ratio as the iPhone 8 is 112.35 mm x 63.12 mm = a 128.8 mm screen

128.87 mm = 5.07 inches

This is very simple. You basically get the screen size of a Plus model in the form factor of a non-Plus device. The best of both worlds, in my opinion.

The screen is actually smaller. It's longer so the screen size can be stated as a larger size, but the screen is 5 mm less wide so for most intents and purposes its a 5.07 inch screen compared to the 8 Plus's 5.5 and 8's 4.7 inch screen. But the less usable parts of the X's screen is still usable. And it's almost the size of the easily to handle 8.

The bigger version is coming next year. You’re supposed to buy this years then upgrade next year when they release the one you really wanted. You sound like a newb to apples eco system.

I've never wanted the "s" versions because they are only miner upgrades internally. But this year, I will definiately hold off on the X since there isn't a plus version, which is Apple's first since since their first Plus model.

My head hurts.

Holding the Smart Cover now...phone is perfect size for a plus user. Unless you hold it yourself don’t buy the ********.

Thank god I don’t listen to other people’s paranoia

I think you guys need to stop overthinking or panic about the size, you can make judgment call once you actually see the iPhone X in your hands.
