For me the Note 8 screen is better. I like the more saturated colors, the bigger screen and that you have much more content showing in apps like twitter, etc.. But the most annoying thing is the notch for me. I hate it, i watch so many youtube videos and i can't stand it.
I have tried to play it down, but it destroys the user experience for me. I need a symmetrical screen like on my Note 8.
I will send my iPhone X back to apple.
Now waiting for Galaxy S9+

And the same people that swore Touch ID is the absolute best and most convenient, are now some of the same ones with the iPhone X that claim Touch ID is not so convenient. Since they only have Face ID now, they have to justify the loss of Touch ID.

I know the notch is at least slightly annoying for all users, regardless of what they state. How can it not be an annoyance when it covers a portion of full screen videos and games in landscape?
Lol, I must say, everytime I see an iPhone X playing a Video I cringe, it's either the notch is there OR you are viewing with a much smaller window that makes it look like a standard iPhone not even a Plus.

Don't they all use the gorilla glass? So they all scratch the same....
that is like saying the iPhone X uses a Samsung display so isn't it the same as the S8 or Note 8?
There are a lot of people in the MR and Reddit iPhone threads reporting scratches from doing nothing.

Indeed.

Even if they all use the same GG5, the level and quality of oleophobic coating may differ for example, as far as I know this differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I don't see the similarities though.....The screen was tested and it scratched on par with other phones with the same glass at level 6 hardness.

While the display has been improved upon by Apple on the Samsung display according to tests by Displaymate. It gets brighter full screen, and its color management/accuracy was tested to be better, while offering a better anti-reflective rating.

Well just go to the the iPhone thread here on MR and tell the people who have scratched displays that it is normal.
Then tell all the people on Reddit the same thing.

I'm sure there are plenty of owners of Notes and other users of phones w/GG5 that have scratches on their phones too.

I never said normal, I've stated that it's on par with the other smartphones that use GG5 based on testing.

Visit the iPhone sections on MR and Reddit and some have said previous models that didn't scratch this way.
But there seems to be a little more reports of scratches on the new iPhone X than other phones.
I'm sure they're other phones with scaartches on them.

Those threads also contain people stating they have not had those issues on their phones. So looking at actual testing seems to provide a better judgment about whether the x scratches on par with other phones that use gg5. And based on the testing I've seen it's basically level 6, just like the others.

And the iPhone is the most popular flagship smartphone in the world. You will see more threads about it for almost everything.

You are just dismissing what you don't want to hear.
There are numerous threads with iphone owners reporting issues with the iPhone X displays.
1) it scratches easier than previous models
2) Burn in and image retention
3) yellow, blue and pink tinted screens
4) display lags and is unresponsive in the cold

These issues were not reportedly present in previous models.
Then just because the iphone is the most popular phone in the world....does not mean these issues should not be reported or exist.

This is NOT looking good ...... Hopefully it's not widespread as I was thinking of gifting someone an iPhone X for X-mas.

This issue is all over Reddit as well........

Other iPhones doesn’t have thiss issue coz they all have LCD and The X has OLED , oled is known for lagging at -degrees and not recognizing touch imputs

lol I'm not dismissing anything, I'm sure there's some issues with some iphone Xs out there, we're talking millions out there. There's probably already more iphone x out there than note 8s and it's been less than a week. There's going to be more threads on the iphone x especially since it's new. And I'm sure if those issues are real for those consumers, then Apple has a great track record of processing returns/refunds, etc. But for the purpose of this thread, the GG5 on the iphone X was tested to scratch just as easily/hard as the other smartphones with GG5. Displaymate tested the display and rated it the best display right now, which seemingly still some people can't accept or try to dismiss.

You seem to be dismissing the notion that people are not experiencing any issues at all with their iphone X screens and scratch resistance, which is also in the iphone thread in MR. But you typically won't see threads started with "My iphone x screen is just fine" lol

The threads and forums you're reading and that we're on represent a small fraction of the market in general. MR is a small fraction of the overall consumer base, so is Reddit. So you seemingly thinking these issues are happening to a vast majority of people out there seems illogical. If real issues do exist, it should be reported like you said. Apple has ways to receive feedback, which I believe is more effective than going to macrumors in the iphone thread or the user forum on reddit.

lol I'm not dismissing anything....if they have those issues they have avenues to either get replacements to try to rectify and make them satisfied, or get their money back. There's more effective ways of voicing issues than posting a thread on Macrumors or reddit. I would say that anywhere, at any time. "See how that goes" lol what does that even mean? Am I supposed to be intimidated by online forums? lol

Are you dismissing the notion that many iphone x users are satisfied and not experiencing these issues? You seem to be getting defensive.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Pics won’t give you the full effect. You’ll have to see them side by side. Overall the S8+ screen is still more drool worthy IMHO.

It’s sharper to my eyes and the colors are just more vibrant with more wow factor.

Yeah, I hope to have a play with an X this weekend, if I can find one. But I don’t know what to expect compared to the Note 8 which I think has a great Screen? I’m not sure I buy this whole X screen is the best? Best for an iPhone no doubt, not sure about overall though.

That is the difference between us and our discussion. I think most do not have the issues I lined out for you.
I don't take defensive posture like you have and dismissed any issues anyone is having.....

iPhone X v1 is too buggy to be a consideration. I'd wait for v2 or even v3 to be safe. Apple just doesn't have the experience building premium phablets like Samsung.

Also, UI on the iPhone X is a mess. People have gotten used to smashing the home button different ways to get it to do something. Now, there's no home button to smash and the gestures are so badly inconsistent. For example, can't swipe away apps from task window but instead have to hunt for the little x. Safari browser tabs only swipe away in one direction but not the other. Don't get me started on bringing up the task window which is painfully unintuitive and slow compared to single tapping on the menu button on Android or even the old iPhone double tap home button. WTF were they thinking?

Well, I haven’t had any issues with my display, as I’ve said I like it better than the one on my Note 8. Also much prefer the size.

Haven’t had any issues with Face ID, that’s sort of a relief, I was skeptical about the removal of Touch ID, but so far so good.

Also, as a former webos die hard, I love the new gesture based interface, no growing pains for me. I agree though, they should have left the swipe away feature in the cards view the way it was without having to bring up the red button.

I have experienced a non responsive display, I figured it was because I’m running a beta of 11.2, and just shutting off the display and turning it back on got it going again. But I’ll keep an eye out if it happens in the cold, but that will be tough since I’m in Florida.

  1. Unless deliberate, all scratches are just rotten luck. For every person that says it scratches, you'll have someone say it's fine.
  2. No burn in, and I use the X the same way as my 8+ or S8+. Nothing special being done.
  3. Nope
  4. OLED does not like cold. Image blur is the biggest issue I've seen with OLED phones when I go climbing or skiing. I don't expect the iPhone X to be special in this area.

Scrolling down the first page and seeing so much civil discussion -- I was in disbelief! People weighing the pros and cons of screens, price, and design on the iPhone forums?! (I ended up in this particular thread via the Latest Replies sidebar on the root forums page).

Then I realized we're in the alternatives section. Of course. ;) Always terrific discussion here.

When I said "see what happens" i envisioned you would get a lot of responses from people and see there were more people having issue than you originally thought and dismissed. Online forums are never intimidating to me...

BTW,,,,,the cold weather issue is even on the front page of MR

Again I did not dismiss anything. You seem hung up on that when I never said anything close to that. And no, online forums, much less most anything else related, do not intimidate me at all. Again I just quoted and responded to what you said "see what happens". I didn't know what you meant by saying that to me. Thanks for supposedly clarifying.

I see the information on mr. But it doesn't change anything I said. There are more effective ways of reporting issues to Apple than the iPhone thread on mr or threads on Reddit.
