Plugged it in and it automatically defaulted into Japanese(?). (I'm in the US)

Wonder if this means that my device was originally for the Japanese(?) market before being refurbished.

That's cool!

Nov 12 - request service for two nanos
Nov 14 - empty boxes arrive
Nov 16 - courier picks up both nanos
Nov 23 - Apple gets my nanos & status goes to ...pending
Dec 26 - Apple ships replacement nanos
Dec 29 - courier delivers nanos (no duty or other charges)

Originals were 4GB 1G models in perfect working order. Replacements are silver 6G as everyone else in North America seems to be getting. They work well so far. Mine already has 7.2GB of 7.3GB of music filled. I'm surprised how good the radio sounds although I'm not sure how often I'll use it as the iPod has lived in my car for the past 3 years. BTW, it works as it should in the car through the iPod interface. Some people were wondering if the charging would work the same and it seems to.

Does anyone know what the replacement is for people who originally bought and registered their 1g in Canada but now live in the UK and will do the recall in the UK?

I don't think it matters where you registered or purchased your nanos. At least I hope it doesn't because I originally purchased my from the US and returned then to the UK, and have been on pending replacement since Nov 21st. Penny drops!!! Maybe that's why my replacement is behind some many others out there? It wasn't bought in the country where it was returned.

I seriously doubt that the fact that it was purchased in the US is causing a problem since Apple warranty on portable products has always been international anyway.

After 5 or 6 years a lot of iPods will have found their way to very different countries from where they were originally purchased. The replacement programme is designed to make the replacement easier by dealing with it in the country where the iPod currently happens to be.....

I suspect you are right! Just finding more reasons to worry why my replacement hasn't arrived yet when so many others have!!! And cash burning a hole in my pocket for an iWatchz Leather watch kit!

People in the UK, if you want a watch strap to try out, you can't really go wrong with this strap for 30p delivered (next day too, if you have Amazon Prime). :p

I'm getting pi$$ed off now. People in the US who sent them in a month after I did are getting replacements back already.

Still waiting here in the UK, was hoping to get it before the new year but il just have to wait

Maybe now Jony Ive's been knighted, they'll get a move on here in the UK also. Not that it really bothers me as the old one was gathering dust

Received an e-mail yesterday that the replacement product had shipped, complete with mentioning of both the old and new serial#. When I was at work, my wife called me to say that a small and light cardboard box had been delivered. It was indeed a new, silver, 8GB Nano 6th gen! Mind you, completely bare, not even the plastic retail container. BTW: my original 1st gen was received by Apple on the 18th of November.

Hmm... this is all a bit worrying...

My repair status appears stuck at:

"November 14, 2011: Empty box shipped"

I rang apple and when I eventually managed to speak to someone they said it was probably fine, and just the status hadn't been updated.

Anyone else stuck in this state? I sent the ipod back on Nov 17th IIRC - a few days after they sent me the box anyway.

I have royal mail proof of posting, but that's worthless as it's apparantly not traced postage that apple used for their prepaid returns label :-/ Apple can't tell me if it's been received or not.

Will be mighty annoyed if the post office has lost it - I can't even make a claim as I didn't pay for the postage, apple would have to (and anyway, the insurance is only for 35 quid or something as it was standard post  )

So, anyone else stuck in this status? Also, anyone have a decent phone number to contact apple on - when I tried before it was endless hassle with automatic voice recognition etc etc that just kept telling me my warranty had expired when given the serial number!

Don't care what gen I get back, I just want an ipod!

Cheers

Darren

UPS parcels have just delivered.
Sent off a 4 gb 1st generation Nano in black in perfect working order.
Received a 8 gb 6th generation Nano in silver.

Well Happy.
p.s I sent my old one away on 12th November 2011.

Still waiting for mine, though it says it was received on December 13th, despite me sending it back to them in November.

Anyhow, it was only used sparingly, so I'm in no rush. Would definitely use a 6th Gen a lot more, though, as it'd fit my whole music collection + podcasts.

Mine has been at product replacement pending since November 22 -- six weeks to the day. I'm in the UK.

Just got my email from apple. They shipped a 6th gen replacement yesterday 03/01.

Nov 12 - Request service
Nov 23 - Empty box arrives
Nov 23 - Old Nano shipped
Nov 24 - Apple gets my nano & status goes to pending
Jan 03 - Apple ships replacement nano

I'm from Denmark.

Replacement requested 13/11/2011
Received replacement today, 04/01/2011.

Sent 1GB White 1st Gen, received 8GB silver 6th Gen.

In UK.

Service requested: November 13
Replacement pending: December 31

Now, do the 6 weeks refer to the request date or to the day Apple received my iPod? Anybody?

I used my iPod every day and I already miss it! :( I'm from Austria, btw.

Sent mine off a week after the announcement, just had a call from my wife to say that a new 6th Gen 8GB Nano has been delivered. I am in Northern Ireland.

Great call by Apple, the Nano I sent them had been in a drawer for the last 3 years.

Finally got my email to say replacement is on its way! Been waiting since 25th November. In UK too.

How do I check which generation I have been sent?

Apple sends you an email.

I got the tracking number but no clue where to check the status. They did not provide any information about the carrier, and the tracking link is dead :(

UPS delivered mine today (UK) - had been pending since 13th December. Sent it in 6 weeks ago.

Looks like a refurb - in that it doesn't look like a brand new one to me??

4 hours after it arrived I got an e-mail from Apple saying it was being despatched - with a tracking number! (fail!)
