From my experience, unless you need to upgrade macOS (like for a particular app to work) just stay on your current version. And when you do need to upgrade, install the version before the latest one, as there's less likely to be unsolved issues.

uh, ok. so, based on your singular experience, this is what we should do. bear in mind, even with final releases, there are always unsolved issues; every OS is a continual work-in-progress.

anyway, my advice (based on my experience, and questionable mental health ?):

do what you choose to do, and (as with everything in life), accept the consequences.

Do you use Photos photo editing? If so, any issues there please??

Sorry, I didn't notice this till today. I've not used Photos much since upgrading. I've sort of migrated from LR/PS to On1 2020 Raw. I do (or at least did) quite a lot of photography. My basic use for Photos is to display photos on various devices. I create an Album in On1 Raw, select all, and I can send them directly into Photos. Then pop them into a new Photos album and have them available on all my devices. Beyond that, I really don't use Photos. But I've not had any issues to this point. Maybe I've just been lucky?

The only time I’ve noticed issues with photos is when launching and switching between the discrete and performance graphics cards on the MacBook Pro - it can panic on launch when switching between the cards.

I've been v.0 early adopter since OS X Jaguar (secondary machines though, and with exception to Yosemite - for a good reason), and I can say it worked for me, despite occasional minor glitches and bugs. Only this time I updated my Air from Mojave to 10.15.2, then to 10.15.3, and then reverted back to Mojave. There were no major issues except sudden heavy battery draining, overall sluggish experience and some other minor stuff like joke of the new Music app and so. But I've never seen so many major problems (be it via forums or from people I know) with v.4, until Catalina release.

Funny thing is, Apple is going steadily towards totally closed system (security and privacy, hell yeah), and at the same time their hardware and software gets buggier than ever. And it is so obvious that they don't really care about Macs now, they turned into a sort of McDonald's company.

I too have been an early adopter of OS X releases since 10.0 and haven't had too many bumps in the road along the way. Only pains with Catalina were:

  1. Dealing with iTunes disappearance
  2. Getting Lightroom 6.14 to play nice (with ugly 32-bit install and phone home components that are not part of the application)
  3. Learning that Catalina cannot use some external drives as a startup disk!
  4. Waiting for Kingston to finally post a 64-bit version of their DataTraveler DTPV 3.0 software

I'm going to give it a try and dual boot Catalina and see how the OS really performs.

FYI iTunes didn't disappear. It's the same icon just new name 'Music.' Why is that even an issue for most since in the past everyone hated iTunes and wanted it gone years ago?

Other than the name it still works and looks like it did in 10.2 Jaguar. Flatter sure but it retains the familiar look.

So far so good, it's not bad at all? I haven't seen any bugs so far but its the first day so I'll be on the lookout. It really runs quicker than Mojave so that's a plus. In about a week, i'll switch permanently to Catalina.

Edit: Also another thing I noticed is the fans turn on quicker than on Mojave. When running something intensive Mojave would wait till the CPU go 200+ degrees Fahrenheit before starting the fans while on Catalina it turns on much sooner and don't wait that long which I considered a plus. I never understood why the OS would rather a hot system than a noisy one but cooler system. But so far so good.

I got a fan control app (TG Pro) allowing me to turn the fans off completely if I'm not doing more than browsing the web. It stays normal and I was tired of the default system setting being so overzealous of running the fan when it's not needed. So try that.

I still think the loss of 32-Bit support kinda stinks. Like Portal 2? well sucks to be you I guess. I am not sure why they couldn't do like Windows 10 does and support BOTH 32 and 64-bit...99% of my Steam library is now inaccessible on my Mac.

I'm still on 10.14.6 due to almost 10 months of travel. Unless I'm warned against it, I'll finally take the plunge tomorrow or Friday (on a 2017 15" MBP).

You maybe better running 10.16 AKA macOS 11 Beta - it's been more reliable for me, could of glitches here and there with the graphics, and clicks when in safari don't work without a page refresh but I could never have done this with Catalina..

If you do, make sure all the third party applications you use are compatible with Catalina.

Also, it might be best to do a clean, fresh installation of OS 10.15.6, which is the most recent version of Catalina.

No issues here also. :)
Same with me, although I did not start until V10.15.3 had been released. But all is good.

Thanks. I won't get 10.15.6 by downloading straight from the App Store? (In 30 years of Mac use, I don't recall ever missing even a .1 update, so this is new for me.)

The only issue I've had is the crash when shutting down when connected to external TB2 drives. Doesn't happen with TB3 enclosures.

I'm running MacOS 10.15.6 (Catalina) with no issues on my mid-2014 13" MBP.

I use MS Outlook rather than Mail as part of Office for Mac 2019.

I've read about a number of folks who have issues with Apple's Mail program, both within Catalina, and prior versions of the Mac OS. I use Thunderbird, and although not as "sexy" as other mail clients, it easily gets the job done.

I'm still having issues as of 10.15.6 which is really really frustrating. Still have family members + clients on Mojave and was hoping that a year into Catalina that it would be stable enough to move people but unfortunately not.
