Yesterday got the first hang. After importing 3k music files to Music and some video in another folder, the system goes unresponsive. I can load app but every action I did was unsuccesful. I wasn't able to kill process or logout. The only option I used, open terminal and launch a reboot via command line.

I have experienced virtually no issues whatsoever. Safe to install for most!! Just double check and make sure you don’t have any 32-bit apps!

I did a system update a few years back which was incompatible with MS Office for Mac. It was disastrous for me; I can't understand why Apple wouldn't wait until they ensured compatibility, or at least warn you of the problem before install.

Although I'm tempted, I think I will wait a few weeks, update all of my productivity apps, and make sure that MS Office is tested compatible before I upgrade.

@petvas I have HP Easy Scan, I have been able to get it to work partially - if I use the document feeder it works perfectly. If I put something on the glass, it complains that nothing is in the feeder and won't scan. So I scan from the feeder for now, luckily I Haven't had anything yet that won't fit in the feeder (like a book).
The problem is that neither Easy Scan nor Image Capture work when I attempt to do duplex scanning. Easy Scan will scan one side of a page just fine, but the image for both side of the paper is missing/distorted when I attempt to do duplex scanning -- same with Image Capture.

- Catalina completely scrambled my ordered Apps in Launchpad --> reordered all Apps --> Catalina (partially) scrambled them again
Strange –– I had this bizarre situation on Catalina too when it randomly reordered my Launchpad (and I had to restore from looking at a *screenshot* I took of the Launchpad from Mojave!)

MP Navigator stopped working long ago (I think it was El Capitan) for my CanoScan liDE 200. But Image Capture fortunately still works well under Catalina.

Most of the OS is OK. But the so-called replacement apps for iTunes are horrible. For example, if you seelct a group of movies or TV shows, they won't show you how many you select4e or how large. There is no info in the (again) so-called status bar. If you have Audible books off-drive, it forces you to copy them to your local hard drive. Just terrible.

These apps look like alphas.

And to add, if you manaully copy TV shows to iOS from the TV app, it skips the second episode every single time and you have to drag and drop again.

As I said, alphas.

I was going to install it but now i am not so sure at all.

Thanks!
Since doing a clean install Cataline has worked fine. The only issue I thought was wrong was seeing 3 internal hard drives instead of one. Come to find out after checking with Apple tech, what I am seeing is normal. Note that tech at first thought I was having a problem but after consult with supervisor and more
research she realized she was seeing the same think on her work computer. Oh well ......

People need to know the hardware and software they have and do a little research before they upgrade. The older your hardware, then it is less likely there will be 64-bit drivers. Same with software. You should always check to see if your hardware/software is compatible before you upgrade to a new OS.

Flawless installs on a 2018 MBP and a 2012 MBA. If I only listened to the people on this forum, I would be convinced that Apple sells software worse then shovelware.

I couldn’t resist and upgraded on my 2013 MacBook Pro. Did have some weird issues with iCloud until I signed out and signed back in. Also lost the display connected to DisplayPort on my eGPU. But overall it runs smoother than Mojave for me so pretty happy with the upgrade. Knock on wood.

As much as I hate to say this, Catalina has intrigued me on switching to a MS Surface....soon.

As someone who lived with multiple Surface 3 and 4 devices (2 of each because they died inside 12 months) - good luck :D

I'm not sure what you don't like about Catalina, but imho the grass is definitely greener THIS side of the fence.

If you're looking at Surface devices, consider the HP X2, as they are at least user servicable (RAM, storage) and seem to be built a bit better in my experience.

But windows 10 is still a total dumpster fire.

What are you talking about? It's not a Windows release forum sir (although by the amount of issues it's getting close).

You either can or cannot install the OS. That's how it always worked with Apple devices.

Apple has always releases compatibility table and won't let you install OS on hardware which does not support it due some core APIs and features requiring certain hardware.

The core drivers are always part of the OS.

No issues were worthy to call it as bad as it looks. My main machine is a 2019 MBP, it was just the iCloud sign-in for me that was an issue, but easily resolved by resynching keychain from iCloud.

I consider myself a power user; code in multiple languages, run many virtual machines, photo and video edit, and do final music production stage for my daughter. No problems there, but I did make certain over the years to keep my software up to date and move to 64-bit versions when available. It is known that this is a 32-bit breaking release, yet I still see people making threads that Catalina broke their 2011 software. Madness...

It’s not that it’s making my MBP run bad but it’s a very underwhelming os release. The TV and music app are very weak. It’s another step away from a useful os and more like an afterthought.

I am mostly happy with Catalina (macOS 10.15) but the fractured 'iTunes" system of "TV", "Music", and "Podcasts" seems half-baked. Even basic things like indicators for watched/unwatched are missing. There are dozens of minor annoyances like changing the default album art size, inability to hide iTunes Store media, etc. So much missing that I have decided to revert to Mojave on media server. Seems like Apple was more concerned with pushing their services than anything else.
And that right there is the major problem. I don’t want a desktop computer that is just a big ad trying to force me into a service or subscription based model.

Can't say i've noticed anything like this being overbearing.

On my 13" 2015 Retina Macbook Pro performance seems a little better than Mojave.

The calendar and notes apps are better. Shame i can't use sidecar on this machine but looking forward to being able to if/when i buy a new macbook.

Personally i think Catalina is more of an upgrade than Mojave was.

This is the culmination started a decade ago when iOS software engineers were used to buttress and help out the OS X team instead of hiring more programmers with desktop skills.
The iOS -ification of the desktop

so far so good here, on both macs. the only weird thing so far; if i delete an email (in Mail), i can't 'undo' the delete (i have to go into mail trash to find it).

not critical, and all else is as it should be 👍
