Ran just fine on my 2016 MBP through the beta program, so finally upgraded my 2018 last night. No issues so far. There's only one program that wouldnt work, but I havent used it in quite some time, so no big loss.

obvious from reading this thread: some people are doing fine, others not... same as it's been with all previous OS releases. certainly not negating anyone's issues, but no one person can speak for everyone. so, it's business-as-usual on the macrumors forums...

If you were on a corporate LAN back with 10.4.0 Tiger, it couldn't be in installed, and you had to wait for 10.4.3 new DVD, which also included updates to SCSI and disk arrays. Tiger finally provided scratch arrays for OS users to get more than 130MB/sec that cripple OS X up until then.

Saying "both sides" doesn't do justice. A Wiki if what's still broken, apps that are certified or updated to work would. Many developers got burned in the past and sit on the sidelines and wait for OS to be finalized and ship before committing to it before fully testing and implementation.

MacIntouch always had a checklist of what to know and do plus broken apps. The average "non-pro" users likely not though iTunes libraries seem to be commonly gripped about.

I have a mid-2011 27" iMac which I can't upgrade beyond High Sierra so until I upgrade my box, Catalina is a moot point for me. Probably next year I'll be buying a new(er) iMac and hopefully by then they will have most of the bugs worked out.

I have had virtually no issues across three Macs:

2018 Mac Mini
2015 MacBook Pro 15”
2015 MacBook Retina 12”

I will wait for 10.15.2 or .3 , right now I have several 32bit Apps that need to be upgraded or replaced, and I depend only in my Macbook pro for my work and leisure, I cant afford to install buggy initial releases.

Late 2013 15" MBPr so far so good
Late 2012 27" iMac so far so good
Early 2013 13" MBPr - borked wifi, computer name, dock, (maybe SD slot reader) - reinstalling

i have had several problems, eventually sorted most of them but still left with two. Firstly I have no airplay icon on the menu bar so cannot try out sidecar or connect to my WiFi speaker and secondly the media button in Notes is permanently greyed out and I cant work out why.

There is just a page of people posting issues with new replies every few minutes. Is catalina as bad as it looks form this forum?

I was going to install it but now i am not so sure at all.

Thanks!

Most new releases of MacOS have issues.

I would wait until at least the fourth update before loading it (i.e. no reason to load it now).

this info comes from where? any why the fourth, why not the third, or fifth?

there are always issues (check these forums), with each new OS, and each update. it's the nature of software. but blanket statements like that have no value, unless you can back it up with actual facts...

Are you sure your machine is compatible with Catalina, that it can even be downloaded and installed?

it’s a mid 2012 Mac Pro, so yes, it is supported. It has 511.5MB downloaded and is stuck there. Times out every time.

The only weird problem so far and it's pretty irritating is: When you text someone who isn't using iOS on the Mac, the text sometimes won't show up on the Mac but shows up on the iPhone. Is anyone else having this problem. If the text is iOS to iOS, it's no problem on the Mac or the iPhone.

The only issue I had is that Calculator vanished from Launchpad (it is still in Applications folder and works when launched from there) - and that my custom Launchpad layout was messed up after the upgrade.

The mess Catalina has made with Launchpad really is appalling. It appears that all the Apple apps come first and then every other app is scattered at random over several screens. This really annoyed me as well as I had Launchpad set up how I like it.

I absolutely positively hate Catalina. I am VERY sorry that I upgraded. It is absolute PUKE.

Everything is terrible: From the networking in VirtualBox to the constant (and I mean constant) pop-ups for every little tiny security thing. I cant even cd to a directory in iTerm without it asking me to allow it.

It is by far the worse piece of garbage software Apple has ever released.

I guess if you accidentally quote a post on macrumors you can no longer cancel out of it so I have to post this message so the edit box goes away.

not everyone is having issues (but you know that). so, not the 'worst garbage software' from apple, but, i guess, the worst for YOU. good luck, hope you get it all sorted.

An actual fact is that many people will have issues if they update their OS when it first comes out.

People need to accept this fact if they decide to load it when it is released. That is not to say that they will have any issues but there is a higher probability of having issues.

If someone's current version is working fine, why load the new one when it first comes out ?

As far as waiting for a specific version release, I said wait for the forth release before installing it since following that advice has worked for me in the past (i.e. it was my opinion and if you don't like it feel free to ignore it). If someone wants the most probable bug free release, they will wait until a new OS is released and then load the final release for the previous OS version.

So you blame the OS for an issue with VirtualBox ;) Perhaps take some responsibility and check whether the software you use has been upgraded and is ready for the new operating system version.

And you complain about having to give consent regarding security matters. Hmmm ok...

So those two points make it absolute PUKE, as you call it, and by "far the worse piece of garbage software Apple has ever released".

Wow, I'd wonder what you call it when something actually doesn't work...

It appears so, its going to take quite a .X to get the bugs resolved, probably just in time for the announcement of the next Mac OS.
?‍♂️

Definitely time to stop the yearly roll outs.
