If 15.2 is no longer signed by Apple you won’t be able to use it. I’ll look and see and update this post later.

Edit: Unfortunately Apple is no longer signing iPadOS 15.2. Here is the MacRumors article.

It looks like 15.2.1 might still be signed.

Edit 2: Sorry but it looks like Apple stopped signing 15.2.1 as well. You can’t downgrade from 15.3 any longer.

Thanks for finding it.

I just wiped the ipad from itunes for the 18472th time and then downgraded to 15.3. It wouldn't let me downgrade to any of the 15.2 files, 15.3 was the only one I got to work.

I'm now on 15.3 with a new fresh slate again and re-installed all my apps all over again, only for the 956th damn time. Except this time I didn't even install a single third party note app and will test only using Apple notes, because just in case I have a curse with note apps and I'm bringing the curse back whenever I re-install any note apps.

If this doesn't address it then I give up and I'm going to run this piece of garbage device over with my truck. I've had and used a lot of tech in my life and never in my 42 years have I ever come across such ridiculous BS with this mini 6.

Did you ever try with a different Pencil? I’ve had weird things happen before and had to replace tips to fix these kind of issues.

Goodbye ipad! So long Apple, will never buy another ipad again. What else am I suppose to do? Buy a Pro? Buy a 3rd pencil 2?

Maybe my apple account is cursed and I need to create a new one! I have absolutely zero idea what's causing this.

Yes I tried with 2 pencils. Should I give a third pencil 2 a try? Maybe get Apple to send me new tips?

Mine did that briefly, but I’ve been on iOS betas forever. Maybe try to update to the latest Beta?

I have mini 6 and pencil 2. It doesn’t happen on the current beta.

That is how Apple does iOS and iPadOS updates. There is no workaround unless you can find an iPad already with 15.2.1.
LOL! I have an iPad 8 with iPadOs 14.6. Guess i should just remain where I'm at, then.

How do I access the latest beta? I saw it in one of the iPad recovery programs today but then it asked me to pay for a month

The beta is free. It just has you download a profile that loads beta updates instead of release updates.

Try the beta before you give up. I totally understand the frustration. And I remember it happening briefly to me and I would have gone crazy if it was still happening.

Good luck!

Thanks, going to try this right now. What iOS version were you using when your pencil 2 was skipping too?

I wonder if creating a completely new Apple ID account would be worth trying. But it would be a pain to switch everything like my AppleCare and apps over to it

I don’t remember for sure. Like I said, the beta versions update every few weeks. But it looked exactly like your post. Then I lost my pencil for a few days and the beta updated. It’s been on 15.4 beta for a few weeks now and no reoccurrences so far. That’s definitely something I would notice still happening. I take regular notes with my pencil for training classes, meetings, etc. I use the Notes app and OneNote all the time.

Let me know how it goes.

Fingers crossed. Do you prefer Notes or One Note? I find Apple Notes is the fastest of them all. Some note apps seem to have a bit more lag when writing than others such as Penbook (really noticable if you write really fast).

I don't like the layout of One Note on ipad, it's just not as clean as others like Apple Notes or Penbook or even Collanote (which is quite good)

I was trying to look through my notes to see if I could find an example and when I made the note, but I couldn't find anything.

You had the exact same pencil skipping as shown in my screenshot? I wonder if the Pencil 2 tips that Apple sends out are of better quality than the ones that come on the Pencil 2 when bought in stores. I may still try out a third Pencil 2.

Well. I like certain things about both. I mainly like highlighter in OneNote better because when you let up, it drops to the bottom layer rather than darkening your text more than highlighting. I use the grid with both. I think OneNote kind of wins that too because it’s able to go wider page wise if needed. But I prefer all my notes to be in one place. So I basically use Notes for personal use and OneNote mainly for work.

Most of the other things I use them for are equal. OneNote makes it easier to get the notes on my Windows laptop when I need them for work.

Yes. Same thing. I didn’t replace the tip to fix this issue. But on Pencil 1 I had to replace it twice for responsiveness issues. That was on my previous mini 5 and pencil 1. I think I replaced tips twice with that combo for various performance issues.

Just assuming you have said goodbye to iPad. Could you just redo “Erase all contents and setting” again, update to 15.3.1, but without any 3rd party installation? Even better, try create new Apple ID. Also, just leave most of setting as default. Don’t change if not necessary. Finally test this config, for few days, did you still get issues? I know this sounds silly but it seems the problems lies on either the settings, icloud restore or 3rd party app.

The tips on these Pencils don't seem very durable. They seem rather fragile compared to the Surface Pen I've been using for the past years that pretty much have tips that never wear out. I'm more curious on whether these tip replacements in the pack of 4 that Apple sells are better than the ones that come with the pencil. I wish the Pencil 2 didn't have such a big gap from the pencil to the tip (where it doesn't make contact), so that we don't have to remove the tips to clean then. Seeing how easy it is now to remove the tips, over time with more unscrewing I can see them getting loose and eventually just fall right out.

The only time I have serious issues was after cleaning the screen with glass cleaner or special wipes. The pencils tip didn’t seem to be recognised as well as it did while the screen was smudgy.

I'm seeing if upgrading to this beta fixed it but it's definitely not 3rd party apps or icloud restore since I get the issue with Apple notes that comes preloaded on the OS right after wiping the ipad and not doing any icloud restore.

From what I know the only settings I change is the display to dark mode.

The only thing I can think of would be to create a new Apple ID account or buy a 3rd pencil and try that and have Apple send me new tips. The chances of having 2 bad pencils are very rare but you never know

To be honest, I don’t think beta will make difference, as it less stable and many users didn’t have this issue in current and previous iPadOS 15 versions.

> I get the issue with Apple notes that comes preloaded on the OS right after wiping the ipad and not doing any icloud restore. => sorry to reconfirm again, but are you really sure about this? I mean, you have tested it for 1-2 days and had done few times with consistent result?

I hope the problem solved for you.

Yup I am sure that I get the issue right away after wiping the ipad through itunes on the computer and not even installing a single app or doing the restore from icloud. I just had it happen last night as the most recent.

I've tested this thorough for the past 9 or 10 days now. If I let the ipad sit for awhile (3+ hours) and come back to it and open any note app, the pencil immediately skips and does it on almost every line. But when it stops and i keep writing it doesn't do it. Until I let the ipad sit again for at least a few hours and it will repeat itself. Letting the ipad sit overnight, happens every morning because it sat for awhile. This morning (with the new beta update) was the first morning that it did not skip.

I was just getting ready to check in and ask. So, it seems the update did help?
