I'm 99% certain I got it figured out. It's a grounding/static electricity issue. Whenever (without the case) I touch the ipad metal chasis on the side with one finger while writing, it NEVER skips with my palm on the screen (even with the lightest touch of writing). But when I take my finger off it skips. Put my finger back on, it stops skipping. This is absolutely pathetic for a $600 device. So I pretty much have to use this thing without a case and to touch the side with my finger to prevent any skipping.
Interesting. I use my mini 6 in the case 99% of the time. I didn’t test without the case. One thing to keep in mind is people have varying electrical characteristics. I had an uncle who couldn’t wear mechanical watches because they would always die on his wrist; an extreme case.

And my case is the Apple Smart Folio which leaves the edges of the iPad exposed.

My static charge is absurd - before I kiss my wife goodnight, I literally have to ground myself first or she'll get a big shock. I touch her file cabinet first and you can see a spark jump from my fingertip to the cabinet. This happens every single night - she no longer sees the humor in it. When I walk through a doorway with bare arms, the hair on my arms tingle and stand out. My Mini 6 has a case with open edges.

I believe it to be a mix of both updating the iOS and the static charge. Because if it was just the static charge causing it, it would have happened as soon as I bought it, not 2.5 weeks later.

Still makes absolutely no sense to me but I will be receiving my Costco iPad today and that will make things clearer for me.

If the Costco iPad is 15.2 or older and have no issues then it's the iOS causing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was both static and an iOS update. There's another new beta out. Not sure if it's worth giving a try. I do remember when the skipping happened to me, I was in a different environmental setting than what I normally use it at home. So may have been a difference in static or something of that nature.

Got the new ipad today. It has 15.2 on it woohoo!

Passed the dust in the screen check
Passed for dead pixels
Passed for backlight bleed
Passed for damage
Passed for sharp corners
Passed for sharp screen
Passed for jelly roll, love this feature.

The only thing is, I first thought it was location based but it wasn't. I got the skipping even in the car.

There was a person online who bought a bluetooth reconductor and said that it was his other bluetooth devices sending frequencies that interfered with his ipad. All he would do is place the bluetooth recondutor in his room and move it around and then he noticed right away that there was intereference.

Was your skipping all the time or just a couple times here and there?

So, from what I remember, I'm pretty sure it was at church and I was taking some notes. So it could have easily been interference, as there were probably at least 500-800 people in the service that morning.

I don't remember where else it may have happened. I specifically remember there though.

Very weird. Sounds like it was a one off occurrence for you, which is good.

Don’t want to jinx myself and it’s still early but so far so good on the iPad from Costco!!!!!

If I end up keeping the iPad from Costco, I will stay on 15.2 for as long as I own the iPad. Because I’m not willing to take the risk to brick my iPad again.

Want to ask, how am I going to be able to sell the previous one with the issues? If I sell it the buyer will likely accuse me of selling them a defective device. Even though it’s not defective, just the iOS version is on that particular iPad. Am I better off calling apple and having them send me another new replacement and I sell that one as brand new?

Or would you just sell it currently?

I’ll give it at least a week before I sell it just to be sure that this issue has been resolved.

Well it looks like I will have to sell the 15.3.1 mini as is. I don't even know how to tell the buyer who buys it the issue. Or should I even mention it? Some may not even care or use it for notes. If I disclose it, they will assume I am selling a defective product. I mean it still has warranty if they wanted to get it replaced but seeing how it's an iOS issue, Apple won't replace it because it's not bad hardware.

What to do?

I don't think it's right to sell anything without disclosure of known issues.

I agree but I guess this ipad is now worthless. Will be really tough to sell it. Apple should be reimbursing me because their update messed it up.

15.4 should be out in the relatively near future - it's on Beta 3 at the moment. You can wait and give it a try.

The only thing is, when will 15.4 be out. 15.3 just came out on Feb 10 of this year.

I confirmed with Apple the other day that this specific issue is on their fix list for 15.4.

So I pretty much have a lemon that will sit here and lose money until Apple can fix their own mistake.

Also, even though 15.3.1 has a critical security patch in it, I know if you have automatic updates to on, on your device it will eventually force you to update. I'm wondering if this is the same case for those who have automatic updates set to off on their device. This thing better not force me to update.

Mid-March?

Better to wait and test than sell now with the possible value loss.

It won't force you to update but it is pretty easy to make a mistake so be cautious about any pop-ups. It's not supposed automatically update if you turn of the setting but I've many reports that people got updated against their will. Unfortunately, you can't turn off badges on the Settings app so you will see the red badge all the time.

If they never use a pencil they will not know the problem and you said in a earlier post it was your static electricity might be causing the problem they might be different
If you send it back for a exchange then sell that one

Thanks. I'll be so pissed if it updates against my will, that's just so wrong. Just not willing to take that chance.

I still have it up for sale. If I get any inquiries, I guess I can ask what they will be using it for. Maybe I get lucky and someone just wants it for Netflix doesn't care about the note bug.

I just talked to Apple again and they said they can't send me a new iPad with my intention of selling it despite clearly stating that I just bought it last month and I did nothing wrong and I went and bought a second mini to immediately fix the issue.

Unreal customer service.

I thought these minis were in demand with them being sold out and backordered everywhere? I dropped my asking price by $25 and feel I am more than reasonable on my selling price. At Xmas I saw a few who were trying to sell new minis for more than retail price so mine is more than reasonable.

Have you seen what these are going for on ebay?

Honestly, I don't know WTF the cause is, the new mini just started skipping on 15.2 Worked perfectly for 2 days and now it skips. I am done with the mini. This is absolute BS!

Maybe I go buy a Pro instead. The mini is just a total piece of **** that was clearly rushed out and can't handle the pencil 2.

The only cause I can think of is. The Costco mini worked perfect since I got it 2 days ago and I did heavy testing on it. It wasn't until I used it with the surface of the iPad on my bed that it started skipping and now it's been skipping since. This could be the same case with my very first mini.

But yet my surface pros over the years worked with no issues with it on my bed. So WTF apple?

The only thing I can think of is that my bed has a death sentence? So maybe if I order another mini, don't use it in bed and see how long it goes without skipping?
