And specs are relatively meaningless when it comes to predicting user experience.

And in the end, user experience is what we go by to decide which phone is best. Which is why, yet again, these threads are pointless.

winner winner, chicken dinner.

that is my way of adding to your reputation if I could.

But they do contribute to the user experience. You can't tell me the new iPhone 5s won't be better off with 2 gigs of RAM as opposed to just 1

Oh it would be better off - but is the end user going to notice?

I doubt it. Of course, comparing two equal systems (hardware and software) and improving from one to the other is different than comparing two DIFFERENT systems and saying that system A is better because it has better specs - when the reality is its not an equal comparison as the systems don't behave the same way and therefore offer varied user experiences given the exact same specs.

Lol my reputation here is absurd. All kinds of nonsense thrown about.....

*sigh* its ironic that its mostly the people who claim (very vigorously) to be the objective ones.

Folks like you and MRU have a more balanced approach. Which is all I'm trying to bring. Only problem is, I'm trying to bring it to the Alternatives section in the midst of a bunch of Android nut-jobs who can't seem to look past their hard Android weenies and realize their phone choice doesn't make them superior.

And the last time you insisted that I answer your question, I did, and to put it politely, you got owned. Do you remember? All you could do to demonstrate your point was give an entirely hypothetical scenario where somehow a 4" screen and a 5" screen were exactly the same.

You're fodder for entertainment, J.

Once again, puffing up the strawman to beat it down, eh? How many times is that now?

No one is saying their phone choice makes themselves superior -- and if there are any members doing that, you and anyone else should rightfully ignore them. I'm not saying my phone choice makes me superior to you -- what a silly notion. I am saying Android is a superior OS that can do more (how can anyone argue this point?), and can do most things faster and/or easier, and is growing at a far superior pace than the competition's OSes.

At what point do I say I'm superior to you for the decisions I make versus the decisions you (or anyone else) makes?

Now, if you want to discuss whether Android's advantages matter to you, that's up to you. I don't care for such conversation, but I ain't stopping you from having it (who am I to tell you what you prefer?).

Keep beatin' the straw man.

----------

So my presence in a thread validates its existence?

Sweet.....didn't know I held that kind of clout.

Just find it ironic you reply (and sometimes get worked up) over a "pointless thread." Clearly, there's some point or stake in it or you wouldn't reply at all -- you know, like how I don't reply to some of your posts.

Uhh wrong - I demonstrated an instance where in a normal viewing example (browsing the web), both devices displayed text that was the same size, thereby debunking the idea that somehow people have to squint to see things on the iPhone 5's display.

And really, the hilarity of the hyperbole is plenty to debunk such a claim. How in the world did ANYONE ever get along before 5" displays? People have been reading texts and email on their smartphones for years - well before the advent of the current smartphone size craze.

And yet SOMEHOW (only God knows), people were able to do it. WITHOUT squinting.

And numerous times I point this out:

It's plenty fine (and even encouraged) to say you prefer the larger display. Its easier on your eyes, you like it whatever. But to insinuate (through the claim one has to "squint" to see the TINY iPhone 5 display) that the iPhone is unreadable? Why? Why do people feel the NEED to do that.

I just find it incredible that, despite all the credible reasons one could give for preferring larger screens (and you should notice, I myself have said I actually have grown to like the larger displays and hope Apple offers one soon), people still prefer to make outrageous claims that belittle one device and raise up another (this happens every which way also - not just Samsung vs Apple).

On a side note - I love that you seem to think I'm some fuming fanboy sitting behind my computer. While my comments (I will say I've never equated any technology to a "sick, twisted joke" - which sounds a rather passionate claim) and arguments may seem "impassioned", I'm really not at all emotionally invested in any comments that are made here. The logical, intellectual side of my brain struggles to grasp the sheer idiocy that I sometimes find here, but other than that I'm cool as a cucumber.

No I know your shtick Couch - all literal, any inferences made are of no consequence and are the reader's fault - no matter how blatant.

I just prefer to have balanced conversations. Either we talk about individual handsets and rate them on their own merit, or we compare and list pros and cons in each area.

This apparently is a foreign concept here.

Completely off-topic but I wanted to ask. Is your profile pic a reference to obi wan vs general grievous because there's a striking resemblance.

Okie dokes. You insist that I reply to your posts, and when I find something worth addressing, you throw it in the air and say "nope, I know your shtick." I even ask you to show me where I say I'm "superior" to you as a person because of my decisions versus your decisions.

Keep at those straw mans. Beat on!

You're right Couch. I apologize. I need to be more succinct in my comments, and will do so from now on.

Everyone move along.

It's a funny pic. I'm a big Star Wars fan. I'm also a big Apple/Android fan. You're "striking resemblance" means nothing to me.

Though, if you want to take it that way - I'd say that pic coupled with my sig quote gives you my view on this war.

I'm a fan of both sides for different reasons. And in all my "straw men" arguments and "passionate defenses" of Apple, the fact is I'm a daily Android user and an iOS fan.

Take it however you want.

Like I said. Take it however you want to take it. I am certainly an Apple fan. I also enjoy my HTC One.

No offense against you!
It seems to me that you are a big Apple fan (which isn't bad if Apple fulfills your needs), trying to like Android.
However, I think we should stop here.

None taken. I'm trying to be succinct in what I post. Straightforward. Smaller sentences.

Hopefully I'll be a little easier to understand. :p

And I wouldn't characterize myself as "trying to like Android". There are things I truly do like, and things I absolutely can't stand. There are also things about the iPhone I can't stand (like how mail handles attachments other than photos/videos).

I also know, however, that I don't run into issues on my iPhone so it works for me. All these choices that get talked about don't mean anything to me because I've never experienced the negative side of the situations that are brought up.

And look at me - back to the long explanations.....damnit. Ah well!

Look I'm not accusing you of anything and I really don't care if you think ios is better than Android, that doesn't change my opinion on anything. It was a simple star wars question and has nothing to do with apple-android war but there's no way that's not grievous vs obi even if that's not how you see it.

Obviously.

Whoever created it, likely created it that way. My response was - I didn't make it my avatar because it reflects how I feel about the two companies. I simply like the pic.

That was all. I'm not being defensive or anything. No worries :D

Honestly sizzle (can I call you sizzle, it just seems to flow better) that's probably the first negative comment about apple I've ever seen you post.
