I am sorry. After I had my logic board and screen replaced in my 2.5 year old MacBook Pro I have become a bit more realistic about Apple. Still it was all done within a day under Apple Care. Not a fan boy, just like the OS and the design. And to an extent the build quality.

What pisses me off it that "people" on these forums are telling other people what they should accept or not accept in their product.

It is really hard to participate without loosing one's cool and start defending one's self as if one was a so called "fanboy". I guess when this is all over I will be out of here... :-(

Check out my other post where I am asking advice on how to prepare for a return.

Still this is an amazing computer. Don't have to be a fanboy to appreciate that.

Ouch some people make me sick... but then they are probably happy to hear that. What a bloody waste of time... will learn to just keep quiet and let the alley cats defend their territory...

That may be... but i can't believe its really in small numbers anymore.
.......
I wish Apple was more communicative about the problems at hand.

SkyFox244,

I totally agree. All the units I have seen around have yellow tinge to some degree (5% - 10% blue missing). I am waiting for Apple to run out of yellow tinge screens.

Wonderful. Who said it didn't?

Good, then I'm sure you don't disagree that there is no reason for someone not to try a 27" iMac for themselves since there's no guarantee they are going to have a defective display. We don't disagree after all.

Who told you EVERY iMac has a problem? You need to find new friends. I've seen some iMac screens which were yellow tinge-free.

Be careful, that was almost a positive remark. :p

Hey Apple Genius - your breaks over. Go serve some customers. Boss is watching.

OK, well that's as far as I go in the mud with you. I should know better than to post before my morning coffee. Feel free to sling back any immature barbs or insults you like after this.

The bottom line is I could give a crap whether anyone buys an iMac or not. You can believe that or not.

I don't think that anyone who comes in here and says that they have a defective iMac is lying and I don't deny that some seriously yellow-tinged displays exist. I've seen pictures of them.

If it makes you feel better to call me names go ahead. I'm not a fanboy. I've had problems with Macs before, big ones. I've already explained them in depth in here. I wasn't happy about that at all at the time.

I'm having a great time with my i7 though. It's the best iMac I've ever owned and if people ask me if I recommend they try one I'm going to answer, sure. Why wouldn't I?

Just havin fun. Apologies if you were offended. We need a balance around here. Das all.

I'm a big Yankees fan too. So no beef. :)

The Apple sales person in NYC located on 5th ave by Central Park.

Stop by and ask one of their sales associates yourself, or call.

They tweak the returns and send them out.

PLEEEEASE don't tell me you thought they went into the garbage dump.

NO, I don't think that, because I never said that. Don't put words in my mouth. You said that Apple just takes returns and puts them back out as refurbs. I hardly believe that they don't try to repair the product first before putting out for sale as a refurb. Had you SAID what I just highlighted on your previous post I wouldn't have replied.

No. Returns go to several central depots for repair and are then sold via the Apple store as refurbs with full warranties.

I wasn't offended but thank you. I'm not going to hold your opinions against you, obviously.

I'm all about fun so as long as it's not at someone else's expense. It's absolutely possible to disagree civilly.

Great, something we can agree on at last.

(I'm hoping for a repeat this year but I think they made a huge mistake letting Matsui go, bad knees and all. :( )

I loved Matusi - great clutch hitter. He's made great achievements in his life. I understand that he was like a God in Japan before coming over to play for the Yankees. Not only did he get to play for a coveted and storied team like NY, but he was the freakin MVP of their last WS. Much kudos and adoration for him. Seems like a very humble guy too.

Now whats up with his wife? - I've only seen the napkin drawing!!! LOL I bet shes hot though...

Well let's see I have had 3 and am waiting on a 4th

All 3 had yellow screens.

So for me it is 100%

A lot of others are in the same boat. Read the threads.

Random samples weeks apart.

Bad luck? Not likely.

Statically accurate? More likely than not.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, really. I'm not a particularly lucky person but I got a tinge-free one on the first try.

If I had gotten TWO bad ones in a row I'm not sure I would have even bothered with a 3rd, much less a 4th.

Yes, indeed, this is where people come to post their problems.

Random samples weeks apart.

Bad luck? Not likely.

Consider this database of 27" problems: 1772 total machines and of those 313 report a yellow tinge. That is in itself an unacceptable 17.6%. Like I said, I'm not arguing the issue exists out there. However, I will argue with the "99%" comment.

100% of the machines YOU'VE tried have the tinge. Plenty of people have had far better luck.

I hope your 4th machine's a keeper.

Was able to choose the best of two iMacs (both week 52's) in shop as a replacement for my tinged screen. One was fabulous, so they are out there.

Took it home...carefully!

At home, out of the box it will not boot. Fan comes up, dies down, HD spins... but no activity on screen. Reseated RAM... reset SMC.. No luck.

Back to shop tomorrow. Will sleep over it. Maybe just ask for a refund.

Sad cos you get hooked on the big screen real quick!

As for the statistics. A demo model in the shop had the same tinge. So far for me 3 out of four had disturbing tinge. The one without the tinge is dead now.

Oh NO!! Man, I'm sorry to hear that Fiddler! I hope they get that sorted out for you ASAP so you can end up with the clean screen. I'd be really angry if I finally got home with a machine I knew was a keeper and it was DOA.

Best of luck with it.

Arigato!

Hai, boku wa honto-ni angury desu! Apple-wa tottemo no-bakka desu!

What should I do? Would you ask for a repair at the shop?

I have to say it was not perfect.... the iSight had about 20 dead pixels... :-(

But the screen was amazing. I was thinking of just repairing the iSight at a later stage.

Obviously this is a personal decision, but I think I would take it back and tell them to repair it including the iSight but whatever they do do NOT replace the LCD panel. ;)

Sometimes they just want to replace the whole machine. Make it clear you want them to fix what's wrong on that one.

Even if it takes a few days you will end up with a perfect machine, which is what you paid for and what you deserve. I don't think anyone should settle for less.

Best of luck with it!

I feel sorry for the paranoid people now. They've allowed themselves to be paranoid.

I decided to get over my paranoia and here I am with a dead machine :p

What if I ask them to move this screen into the iMac I had at first? That was otherwise perfect. Should not take them longer than 15 minutes to do that!

running strong since november

Sorry for the folks with bad Imacs,

but I'd like to report both are running strong since November 09.
Never shut off, just restarts after updates.
