It would be a waste of time for them to talk about FCP/Logic for iPad software more than the video they made and have already released to the public. Of course, they might also have another event between June and September to go over the new iPad models.

I think they only released that video because they already have a lot to announce at WWDC, otherwise that video could easily have been a part of the WWDC keynote. I'm not sure if Apple have ever announced iPad's at WWDC. Wasn't it only in October of last year (2022) that they announced the new iPad Pros?

I'm not expecting the next iPad Pro release before 2024, and possibly not until later that year.

I think we're unlikely to see a new one at WWDC. But for the sake of two weeks, you may as well hold out. If there's nothing in a fortnight, then go for it - grab yourself a nice shiny new iPad Pro! 😛

Correct, but keep in mind that Apple is NOT marketing the Ultra as an "iPad" even though it is an iPad. From what I have read Apple is marketing the Ultra as 'more' than a iPad (even the Pros) and less than a Macbook Air. It is being geared specifically for creators. This is why the rumor of MacOS Lite makes so much sense. With that in mind, they wouldn't be talking about it at WWDC because it's an iPad, but because it's a whole new product segment, just like the headset will be a new product segment. Whether or not they talk about it I think this next WWDC will be one of the best in a long, long time.

Agreed this years WWDC will be a great one I think, it's going to be a long keynote as well I think. What I don't understand is why they are going to announce the 15" MacBook Air at WWDC, if it's literally going to be a 15" version of the MacBook Air why not just do a press release especially since it's rumoured to be getting the M2. The only thing that's rumoured to be different is the screen size and battery life. Hardly worth keynote time when WWDC is already going to be busy.

Personally, I think the whole reason why Final Cut Pro for iPad and Logic for iPad were not introduced at WWDC is that they will be introducing the iPad Ultra in June (available for sale around September). We shall see in a couple of weeks.
Highly unlikely, we would have much clearer and converging rumors if that was the case. Not happening.

Do you think the 15" MacBook Air is happening at WWDC? it just seems odd to use keynote time when it's already going to be busy. Since it's not a new design and only a 15" version of the redesigned Air from last year, I think they could have just announced it via a press release.

I would love a 14" or 16" iPad Pro Ultra or even if they called it iPad Studio 😍

Possibly because it will be one of the first devices with the M3. This would help push sales along because to many it will "just" be a bigger screen version of the small MBA. Having the M3 first would certainly set it apart from the crowd. Then Apple would have an excuse to talk about the new M3 chip. It's also possible that they don't talk about the new Air but release it later in the year. Don't forget, this is what happened with the Mac mini. Many people were very disappointed when Apple didn't talk about the new Mac mini at one of the events.

It's rumoured to be coming with the M2 and announced at WWDC. Mark Gurman who is accurate with these things (it's often said that he is drip fed information from Apple) is sticking to his guns of WWDC.

It will be interesting to see what new features they add for iPadOS this year as well, last year we got stage manager and a few others. I'm hoping for at least interactive widgets.

It's coming, rumors are clear and convergent about that. I'll be buying a maxed out larger iPad as soon as it comes

Yea I saw that rumour, it’s M2 just like in the 13” Air. Maybe there are features or something that we don’t know about an that’s why Apple want to announce it via the keynote. If it’s going to be a long keynote with the headset announced and all the software stuff, it would be easy to just drop the MacBook Air 15” via a press release before the keynote. Using keynote time to just announce a 15” version of a laptop we already know about seems a bit of a time waster.

Don’t get me wrong I’ll be interested in the 15” Air since I prefer bigger screens. I’m just not sure why Apple are keeping it in the keynote when they have already announced Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad, they could easily have announced the 15” Air as well.

I think a lot of us want this product, but I don't think it's coming this year. No smoke to that fire yet. Since I currently already have 2 Macs, I would consider selling my personal Mac and my iPad mini and buying this kind of device. I just don't think we're there quite yet, and I don't like the idea of this kind of product forking over into yet another category.

it wouldn't be the first time waster in an Apple keynote and honestly they desperately need to sell more Macs and M2 chips so why not...

I recently sold my Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, I originally traded in my 12.9" iPad Pro M1 towards it, Something I regret. I now want to go back to an iPad, I'm thinking the iPad Pro M2 12.9" model. WWDC is right around the corner and we are about 7 months into the M2 iPad Pro update, are Apple likely to announce a new iPad Pro anytime soon and should I just wait?
The M2 is already overpowered for what the device and OS can do.
Then M1 was overpowered for what the device and OS can do.

The M2 will be more than enough.

Oh I know the Apple powered M chips are super powerful, probably more powerful than my 13" 2019 MacBook Pro  which is why i'm also looking at upgrading my MacBook Pro to the rumoured 15" MacBook Pro, if it gets announced at WWDC.

My hesitation wasn't with the power of the iPad Pro M2, it's more that I don't want to hit the buy button and then get burned by Apple announcing a new iPad Pro in just a few months, at some point this year. I would probably get a 14" iPad Pro if Apple make one at some point.

I have also realised that if I do buy now, there is a return Window that goes past WWDC (14 days here in the UK).

It's not just a matter of CPU/GPU power. iPads have historically been RAM constrained, even for the requirements of iPadOS.
iPads started to be as powerful as the average laptop since the first iPad pro in 2015, and while that iPad made a jump in terms of RAM (bringing it from a fraction of that of laptops to around half the average laptop), RAM did not increase for basically another 5 years, while CPU power started overperforming most laptops already in 2018.
While the CPU power of M1 may seem more than needed (but some apps can take full advantage of it and even of M2), the 8GB are more than necessary to avoid reloads (especially of browser tabs) and to let powerful apps work properly without crashing (Davinci resolve crashes on anything with less that 6GB RAM for instance). And RAM will only become more necessary with future iPadOS updates. So NO, M1 brings that much needed RAM to the iPad, and from this point of view it's not too much or even more than enough for what the OS requires.

Does anyone know if the base 128GB storage is enough? I have Apple One with 2TB of iCloud storage so im thinking either 128GB or 256GB iPad Pro.

I’m waiting at home for my new m2 iPad to be delivered I bought mostly because of Final Cut. That and external monitor support I didn’t have on my 2020 iPad.

The way I work is unless there are substantial rumors that a new iPad is coming soon and I mean soon, I just buy it. If a new one was coming next month, obviously I’d wait. If it’s 5-6 months, nah. Get it now. And it looks like iPads are typically on 18 month cycles so we have quite awhile until a new one

What storage did you go for? im leaning towards the 256GB since I have 2TB iCloud storage with my Apple One Premier plan.

Exactly the storage I got! 256 seemed like such a happy medium of enough to not worry about space but not SO much I’m not paying for something I’ll never use. I also have the 2tb plan so any additional video or things in the background will just get saved in the cloud for me anyway. Anything else and I could just hook up an external drive.

I remember a long time ago I got a 512gb iPad and ended up using a whopping 40gb. Won’t make that mistake again
