The M2 is already overpowered for what the device and OS can do.
Then M1 was overpowered for what the device and OS can do.
Testing has shown that the M2 is actually only faster than the M1 when there is a lot of RAM used.

If programs like Final Cut Pro need an M1/M2 on a Macbook, then the same holds true for any other device.

Hell yeah man! Super excited for ya! According to Amazon mine is 2 stops away and I can’t wait to rip open that bad boy and see two years worth of upgrades
Ohhh 2 stops means it's nearly there! post your impressions and pics when you have had a play around. Nice one, enjoy :)

Opening new Apple stuff has gotta be one of the best feelings ever. Pulling that plastic wrap off *chefs kiss*

Side note: when did Apple start including braided cables with iPads? These feel so nice

Procreate, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple TV+ Apple Fitness Plus, some light Final Cut editing and other minor apps. Most of them will probably use my iCloud storage.
It's possible, but it's like living in a one bedroom apartment, you need to manage storage very frequently, which could be totally fine if it doesn't bother you.

I went for the 256GB to give myself some room, I won't use more than that anyway. All the Apple Apps will be used over wifi and Procreate I won't use much and can be saved to my iCloud. Final Cut I won't edit massive amounts, in fact I will test it out with the once month trial.

Oh nice 😍 I didn't know Apple included a braided cable, I thought they only did that with the MacBook and the iMac?

My M1 iPP and iPad mini 6 still came with the plastic cable. The M2 iPP might be the first to get this treatment.

Mind, my Magic TrackPad purchased in 2021 shipped with nylon braided cable.

New Apple gear days are always the best days. I love carefully dismantling those boxes and setting up new hardware.

Quick first impressions coming from the 2020 iPad Pro 12.9:

  • Ok I haven’t really been following ipad updates for awhile but WOW did they change the screen? Even before i set it up, on the literal SET UP screen i noticed the colors were so much more vivid. When everything opened up and i saw my wallpaper it was like seeing my whole desktop on an entirely different screen. Started up a show on Apple TV and noticed the blacks are inky black. Reminds me of OLED without the over saturation. I only got a new ipad for Final Cut and external monitor support so seeing a better screen was a nice little surprise
  • I didnt really notice anything different speed wise until i downloaded Final Cut Pro. I feel like the screen is even more responsive to my touch? Could be my imagination. And omg the timeline in all its dark beautiful goodness on this screen looked so good
  • internet seems quicker
  • i opened FaceTime and it told me about center stage but i still kind of don‘t get it. Do i click something or does it just work automatically?
  • I don’t really use stage manager but i tried it again and it’s a lot more fluid on this than the old ipad.
  • I cant wait to get an external monitor and a desk. Gonna feel like i have a dedicated work set up. Anybody wanna donate me one? 😆
  • My cat was fascinated as hell by it. When i put it on the keyboard she went right over and laid on it as if i just bought her for her. Like excuse me? You’re a freeloader You’re lucky i feed you
My impressions are probably super obvious to everyone else but so far I’m happy I upgraded. Oh and it says even after everything’s been downloaded I’m only at 40 gb used. Loving this. Gonna ignore the wife and probably spend all night learning Final Cut on this thing

2021 12.9" got the Mini-LED display. Did you miss all the threads discussing blooming?

But yeah, inky blacks versus the gray on IPS.

Personally I barely notice any screen difference in daylight, only in dark environments.

He has been right more times than not, but he's not been accurate 100% of the time ;)

To be exact 86.5% accuracy in 2022.

Ross Young is more accurate, however he is a display analyst. He was the one that has also been saying that a 15” Macbook Air is coming (likely at WWDC) and then Gurman confirmed it.

Gurman has also said that there are no major updates coming to the iPad lineup this year.

How are you finding your iPad Pro? I’m loving mine. It’s great to use in Sidecar and a second display :)
I’m diggin it! The screen alone was a nice little upgrade. But like pro-motion when it was introduced, ya see it. Think wowwww. Then you get so used to it you don’t really think much of it. I had my iPad on my side table last night watching movies while my wife slept and it was especially apparent then how nice it looked 👍

Got it for Final Cut. Was disappointed as hell in fcp, so I’m just enjoying all the other stuff it does. Thinking about getting a monitor at some point.

Sounds like you’re having a good time with yours. Is it mostly a companion for your Mac?

Is Final Cut really not that good? over time it ill probably get updates and new features added, especially with it being a subscription based app.

I mainly got my iPad Pro for drawing in Procreate and as a second display alongside my 2019 13” MacBook Pro. I made a mistake when i brought it, i should of gotten a bigger screen Mac (probably 15” one at the time).
I’m looking forward to WWDC, not for the headset or the software updates (although those will be nice), But to see the 15” MacBook Air that has been long rumoured. If it suits my needs i will buy one in a heart beat and trade in or sell my current 13” Macbook Pro that heats up. The battery has to be charged a few times times a day and i regret not buying the 15” one at the time.

One of my favourite features on the iPad Pro is sidecar, it works really well with the Mac. Also Stage Manager on both the Mac and iPad Pro, in fact i constantly have Stage manager turned on with my Mac. iPadOS 17 will be interesting, I’m hoping there are some good updates.

I am currently struggling with this same question.

Context i have my 16" Macbook pro M1 Max to match my mac studio which runs my studio desk.

I am considering a new iPad, as i sold my others (iPad air and iPad pro 2018) and 2021 Ipad Pro with MKB and pencil )

One will be for my wife, and she enjoys the pencil, and consuming media, and also working from how, the type of work, an air is perfectly fine. perfectly fine on my late 2018 ipad pro and pencil, 64gb storage is becoming an issue now, evem with 2.23 TB of family storage.

However for myself, once i had the laptop the Ipad pro became redundant to me.

However there has been a surge of recent gear i purchased for auido, some are IOS apps for driving Amps, and some pedals, anything that can be done on an Ipad air.

The achilles heel, is the introduction of Logic pro and i run a lot of plug ins, some stand alone, some with in Logic.

I want to jump on the sales but the 1TB models are all sold out as i need the capacity, even with cloud, and i feel better with 16gb ram. everything available is 512gb and 8 at the moment.

My use case, would be typical iPad stuff, media consumption, controlling my amps, using amplitude 5 max and Tonex Max, and logic pro sometimes FCP, supported by a plug audio interface, it can serve as my travel device too if some of the plug ins become available to IOS. Amplitude 5 and Tonex already are.

My biggest concerns are RAM, hopefully an extra port, i hate hubs, they rarely work and i rely on Cal Digit Ts3 and TS4 at the moment at my desk, on the road i need the a few USB-C hopefully USB A - USB C but not a deal breaker.

as well as the new intergration with the headset, assuming its coming. My minimum hopeful specs being 1-2tb and 16gb ram, i maybe way off in how they have designed LGPX to be efficient n iPadOS.

12.9 is fine for me as a size, and doubt i will GAS for the rumoured 14. Its this whole Ipad ultra rumours, that have me hesitating.

I have the luxury of waiting till released, i do not have the luxury of waiting on sales.
any advice to simply wait for wats coming, or take the benefit of the sales ATM.

I would definitely get an iPad, I pulled the trigger a couple of days ago, I don't regret it. If Apple release a big update ( i will probably only upgrade if they release a bigger 14" or 16" iPad Pro as rumoured). I will sell the iPad I have now or trade it in. I mainly use my iPad Pro for apps like Procreate and as a second display in Sidecar alongside my 13" 2019 MacBook Pro. My next Apple purchase will probably be the long rumoured 15" MacBook Pro IF it's announced at WWDC. I'm yet to use a M1 or M2 Mac, all mine have been Intel based, I have heard great things about them especially when it comes to battery life.

Apreciate it.

The MacBook pro is great, and i spend most of my time working off of it, Battery life is great, for me its a deal breaker, as we only have 11-12 hours of power a day where i live. The Studio was a bit of a "mistake", as the new mac mini would have been ideal. Had no way of knowing it was coming and would out perform the studio. So not really a mistake, and it does its job just fine. I may trade it in for a new Mac Mini M2 Pro if offered a suitable amount for the Studio.

I love my iPads, and only got rid of it, as i found myself only using it for reading and driving my apps for audio gear. The laptop filled all those use cases and more, except the IOS apps for my gear, which is far more useful on an Ipad, than my iPhone max when building signal chains. Its certainly not urgent, and the only ones left is a demo 1Tb model and a few 2Tb models, the prices even on "special" with our exchange rate recently that tanked, i am paying more than i did for my MacBook 16 lol I shudder at the thought of the new stock coming in.

The prices for storage on the iPad Pro are ridiculous, I'm in the UK and we saw a price increase with the iPad Pro M2, a maxed out 2TB 12.9" iPad Pro is just over £2,000 😳 for that price I could put £500 towards it and get the 16" M2 MacBook Pro. For some reason the storage upgrades are more expensive on the iPad Pro than they are on the Mac.

WWDC is very close, a week on Monday, if Apple release the 15" MacBook Air I will pick on up (depending on price) If not I may just bite the bullet and get the 16" MacBook Pro M2.
