I am going to try the genius bar again this Thursday. Following the complete radio silence from the Apple rep for over a week and a half, I'm pretty fed up. I was asking how they would support a replacement and further replacements if I keep getting a bad unit. If they don't want to reply then I'll ask someone in store. It's ridiculous.

I am fully aware that a replacement might not do anything, but I feel I need to try something given how bad the cellular reception is on this phone and how I am not getting any replies from the rep I had been working with. The only minor optimism I can muster among my growing pessimism is how RonCron, DotCom, and Rolltide seem to have lucked out with working units after multiple replacements.

Just returned from my third genius bar appointment and got the total run around, they are blaming AT&T...

That is worrisome as I’m on AT&T in NYC. This is insane. They tell us to wait for a software fix. Apple reps ask for logs. Apple reps stop replying. No official word. Now they blame the carriers.

Yes! I never had these problems with my X. I get two bars max in areas in my own house. Outside I only get 2 bars. It's very sad. I hope there will be an update to fix this issue.

Well, not that this helps anything but I thought I'd just update on my personal decision. After much deliberating with myself over taking the chance on the XS or simply getting the known entity (the X) I decided to go with the X.

Went to Best Buy today and picked up the 256 GB version. Pretty comfortable in my decision as I don't have to deal (potentially) with these issues. Hopefully, Apple is working on a fix that will come soon. I'll continue to monitor this thread as I'm curious but I sincerely wish those XS owners with problems the best of luck. I truly hope Apple fixes this and totally understand your frustration!

One retail Apple employee saying it is AT&T does not equate to Apple itself making the statement nor should any substance be put into the statement made by the Apple retail employee.

Apple is still gathering information and creating a solution. No need to start theorizing about some Apple coverup or passing the buck at this point.

“Apple is still gathering information and creating a solution.” That’s pretty much theorizing as well!

This is mess created by apple. they should come up clean by saying they are looking into LTE signal issues .

I am forced to carry a extra phone due to this . iPhone 8 works in same place where iPhone XS fails. T-mobile said work with apple given iPhone 8 works .

If any one saying apple working on issue are not making it better ,

Apple need to come up with official statement

Not theory. Apple has been upfront about collecting logs and talking with those affected, to try and ascertain the specific problem(s).

There is no conspiracy. It does no good for some here to keep trying to go down that rabbit hole. Alice isn't a member here.

I think I just jinxed myself with my last couple of texts. This phone has been working great since launch and just two hours ago I decided to do a few more tests in my room for the hell of it. Running like molasses now, where before it was running fast and consistant. I dusted off my iphone 6+ plus and tested in the same spot, and it's running as it should be. I've run both phones, in this same spot, about 15 to 20 times, and getting the same result. What a strange issue. I've done many tests since this thread first started, and this phone has been rock solid until now. I've tested it in this same room and have never gotten such slow speeds. When I go to work tomorrow, I'll see if it's still slow. Right now it's intermittent. It's mostly slow, but once in a while it speed up. Checking the radio signals, it seems to get stuck on band 12. Like others have said, earlier in this thread, it's as if it's getting stuck on a weak band and not switching over. Thought I had an obligation to report this since I was one of the ones who wasn't having any issues previously. I still don't think it's the antennae, because this phone was running great this whole time until now. It's like it all of the sudden it hit a brick wall.

You don’t know what they are doing this for! It might be as well for the 2019 iPhone lol
So, yes, you’re still theorizing.

The thing is no one can answer to the fact that some of us do have working iPhone XS Max's that in fact in fringe areas actually work as good if not better than older phones. I think what is happening people that are frustrated with this and (you can't blame them) just vent a bit and it comes off as they are speaking like it's every phone. Well it's not every phone we have several in this thread that have working phones including myself.

It does seem to be a fact that Apple is looking at this and I am sure they are taking it seriously. The assumption that some are making because a rep didn't follow up or what a rep said at a store. Most of these people are in no position to make any type official statement for Apple.

I do get it though you pay all this money and you expect a phone that works with acceptable reception. I do as well and my first one didn't work properly and I returned it. Fortunately the one I have now has no such issues and I have not only monitored against my iPhone 8+ in fringe areas, but also done the side by side field test and they are absolutely on par. One poster said this make is seem like it's hardware related, one said no this is seems more like software. Who knows at this point? Apple may or may not make an official statement. Many of us said if you are concerned bring the phone back in your 14 day return window. I did it with my first one and I'd do it with this one if necessary. That is what they will listen too more than anything. You know with Apple money talks and bull **** walks! Simple as that!

Your experience is not everyone's experience. In my local mall, I have ALWAYS had no service in the Apple Store on my Qualcomm 7+.

I get usable signal there on my XSMax.

Agreed 100%. Sitting at dinner the other night with my wife, she was complaining of unusable data on her Qualcomm 8, while my Xs was working albeit slowly. I could send and receive messages, she was getting nothing on her end. Last night we were once again in a low signal area, and neither of us had usable data with both phones bouncing between 0-1 signal bars on the display.

I did plenty of comparisons between my X and Xs prior to deciding to keep the Xs, and there were very few differences between the two. I went through the same comparisons last year with both the Intel and Qualcomm X, and comparing both to my Qualcomm 7 before deciding to keep the Qualcomm X. PC Mag has also stated that while there were large differences between the Intel and Qualcomm X when they were first released on iOS 11, those differences were negligible by the time 11.4.1 was released due to updated modem firmware.

While I think there are a handful of issues out there that are legitimate, I believe the majority of these are people justifying their purchases and looking for problems. If your phone doesn't work, get a refund and go back to what you had. But i'd be willing to bet the majority of the issues everyone here is experiencing will be fixed within the next few weeks as a result of software updates.

"Apple has been upfront about collecting logs and talking with those affected..."

Anecdotal. We've seen people post about this and you, maybe, have experienced it yourself with Apple. They have not made an official statement regarding these issues. That, to me, is not upfront.

"...to try to ascertain the specific problems(s)"

We (collectively) literally, have no idea what they are or are not doing with this information. You are, indeed, speculating.

Nothing wrong with speculation as we're all doing it for sure.

Those differences became negligible, because Apple deliberately capped the Qualcomm X! Now my phone does not work in the same spots where it was fine last year. Now it’s on par with the Intel X, which I also had last year as well and was able to compare both.

I don't think you know the difference between "capped" and choosing not to use features the modem was capable of. There has never been any evidence of throttling proven on any modem used in an iPhone, but clearly the Qualcomm X and 8 were capable of 4x4 MIMO that were not used because the Intel variant was not capable. Yes, the Qualcomm modem was capable of being faster than the Intel modem, but Apple chose to limit the features used on the QC to make it comparable with the Intel. Capping a device would indicate throttling was occurring, and if that was the case there would have never been any differences between the devices in the first place.

LOL. Remember when people could survive a trip to the grocery store with no cell phone at all?
very true- these days tho you get all you music and video via your phone. i get ticked if I lose coverage for even a minute in a big city. If I'm out in the country - that's a different matter.

In all fairness, my experience with my XS Max has been pretty solid. But today I traveled out of state and noticed this when I tried to run a speed test. My phone says two bars of LTE but the speed test itself says I am on 3G. That’s kind of frustrating.

Want to get Apple’s attention, return them. If everyone that had cellular connectivity issues would just take it back, trust me they’ll get their asses in gear. Money talks, always.

You know it seems some have reached a place where they do so much testing and comparing that they can't really enjoy using the phone. I am done freaking testing and checking constantly! I've done all I am going to do. I am content with my Max and for those that aren't instead of holding on to it and hoping magic happens. Return them, however I think some of you waited and now you are sort of stuck. No way I was waiting which is why I returned my first one and repurchased two weeks later.
