I also have XR, now. No problems, LTE performance nearly identical to Galaxy Note 8.

I really wanted the Max size screen, but I will wait until next year. Hopefully the antenna design will be improved.

@Waterman316 what kind of router do you have? Usually you can go into the application and see who/what is connected to your network and at what speed. I use Apple Airport Extreme routers and the iOS app allows me to see the connection speed.

After the 12.1 update. Can’t hear anybody on the phone at my house. Never had issues prior to 12.1 nor with any other iPhone

Same router. AirPort Extreme, 3rd gen I believe. I’ve played around in the app on my phone before and couldn’t seem to find it.

Click on the router that you think you're connected to in the app. There should be a line that shows how many wireless devices are currently connected. Click that. Then you should see the names of the devices...click your phone. In there should be 4 lines...one of which will say how "good" your connection is...mine usually says "Excellent". Click that. There it will show what band, whether a, b, g, n, ac and the maximum connection speed you can achieve in the current situation.

Thank you. I’ll check it out when I get home

running 12.1.1b1, haven’t been on the subway yet but right after leaving my apartment (transitioning from wifi to a cellular dead zone that is my hallway and stairwell) the Max picked up Verizon LTE immediately. speed test had it in the 70s with 2-3 bars. walked a block where i was at full bars and got this speed result.
(Manhattan, upper west side).

Thanks. So the fast charger won’t do any damage to the iPad which doesn’t support fast charging. It will just charge slower, correct?

Current flow is controlled by Device and not by charger. So the device which doesn’t support fast charging will charge normally.

Was on the phone with Apple chat suppprt as well as on the phone with Apple. They are replacing the device although everything “passed”. Also got in touch with a senior advisor. He said that the engineers are still working on a fix. And need logs to help identify the issue. He said that it’s not all phones experiencing this issue. He said that they aren’t sure if it’s a hardware or software issue as of yet.

[doublepost=1541172010][/doublepost]If it was a software problem, all of the phones would have the issue. This is not the case so it must be an isolated hardware issue.

It’s conflated multiple issues
WIFi To Cellular And Back
WiFi 2.4 verses 5Ghz seek hold release
WiFi Calling preference differences between carriers
Speed tests upload download ping jitter
Cellular data even being available
More bars signal strength vs actual connectivity
Cellular network and band preference seek hold release between carriers
And networks just having a bad day, congestion, excessive data use.
Oh and there might be a defective handset or two

I really do think it’s an isolated issue. This thread is only 140 pages since release over a month ago... if it was a widespread issue. This thread would have been almost 500 pages now

It’s the same the advisers I had been working with have told me since late September. They still don’t know what the issue is. Nor why it’s impacting some but not all.

I was hoping it was isolated but then my replacement was no better. Some have been lucky but it varies how many phones people go through. This one guy posted on reddit saying he went through 7 and all had poor LTE reception.

You clearly don't write software.

For starters there are 4 major carriers using 13 different bands operating on 6 different frequencies, just in the US. Within each of those frequencies lie certain subsections of the spectrum, so that one carrier might use half the bandwidth in a band whereas another might use a quarter. Throw on top of it the fact that they're using a new modem with a new antennae configuration that allows for auto switching between antennae for the best signal.

Writing fully robust software that accounts for every extenuating circumstance is very difficult. As I tell my clients, having bugs in the code is likely a failure of imagination on my part and not negligence or lack of ability.

I’ve wanted to make this remark for a while. The more complex software gets, the greater the chances for bugs in the code. Some bugs don’t come up until a very specific set of circumstances happen. This why only some will see bugs and not others. Software as complex as iOS is bound to have bugs that no one would have ever thought of, and every change in the code has the chance of introducing other unseen bugs and errors.

But their are some with no issues? Right?? That’s the main thing.

Are you able to point me towards the thread on reddit. Every thread I’ve found is 40 days old

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-xs-xs-max-signal-poll.2142585/

It's almost 50/50 based on those who have chimed in on here about it. Yes some don't have the issues but like a lot of bugs and issues, some people are doing things in low enough frequency that they don't really pay any attention to it and it gets counted as "I'm not having an issue". This one's a little extra tough because there's so many directions to blame before thinking it's the device itself. You have the carrier, regional location, congestion, obstructions to cellular signals (indoors). I didn't know I had an issue until I was using my device for navigation and the maps wouldn't load anymore as I was driving. Took me a couple weeks to confirm my device was actually affected by comparing to other devices I have which were not experiencing the same issues in the same spot. I've uploaded several reports with logs from both my X and XS so they could have comparative data.

Sure thing. Don’t get me wrong. I totally do believe some people have no issues. I’m not doubting that at all. My whole point is really that yes some of us have issues and others don’t. More importantly, no one knows a root cause.

Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/9tgbhr/iphone_xs_max_lte_issues/?st=JO0BL68R&sh=45a71437

Also I realized the 7 Max comment was on Zollotech’s YouTube video on the 12.1.1 beta. You can search YouTube for that.

Again, good luck to all of us.

On 12.1.1b1 ... Verizon ... XS

I also have a iP7 on 12.1.1b1 on Verizon - QC radio.

Gasp ... my XS consistently bench marks 30-50% higher than the i7 on both down AND uploads. My XS was typically doing well on the download, it was the uploads that were killing me. I was surprised to discover that the i7 struggled also on the up so it definitely help to put my XS upload scores in perspective.

So they (Apple and/or Verizon) either broke the code such that all phones are pretty much equal now ... or ... they actually fixed a thing or two.

In the first case, maybe ... just maybe ... the root cause is known then ...

If my XS can perform equal to or greater than my i7 Qualcomm based phone ... I'm good.
