All remains the same.. i think the people are fighting for return their devices and get another new, or recover their money :)

Perhaps your phone is truly defective if you and the other member are having different experiences on the same train with the same device and carrier?

I remember a few years back having all kinds of network issues with my brand new iPhone (6S I believe). My phone would frequently have trouble (re)connecting to networks and/or would show me that I had a strong LTE signal but I frequently couldn't use my phone for voice or data. My wife's brand new iPhone wasn't having issues. A network settings reset didn't help. As a last-ditch effort, before going to the Apple store to request a replacement, I decided to do a DFU restore and reinstall iOS and set up the device as a brand new device (I never restore from backup). Anyway, this fixed all of my issues. It seems like the iOS install from the factory got corrupted somehow and was responsible for my problems. I never had any issues after the DFU restore.

Perhaps something is wrong with your device?

Possible there’s something wrong, I just don’t know. It’s a great piece of tech and works fine in many locations. What it does not do, for the latest and greatest, is work as well or reliably as it should compared to my previous phones. I’m weeks past the return window, but I may still try for an exchange if this doesn’t improve with the next update or two.

That is horrible. I'd take it to an Apple store and get a replacement. If they're not willing to replace it and you're within the return window, return it and buy another.

Good luck.

Thanks. Will wait and see a little longer, and then probably try for a replacement if I don’t see improvement.

I wonder why none of the big youtubers are calling out on Apple for their faulty devices. Probably a bunch of sellouts worried that they won't get future products for early reviews. I hope there will be a class action lawsuit soon.
Or...it’s not as widespread as you’d like to think? They’ve sold millions of these, yet Twitter is fairly silent about iPhone LTE complaints too.

It's because it's not a very widespread problem in the grand scheme of things.

Analysts' global sales estimate for XS series in first weekend is 10 million units. Even 10,000 people complaining (0.1%) would be WAY below typical consumer electronics failure rates.

I mentioned before at some point, but look back at the Xbox360 gen1 days for an example of a huge-scale design fault. That was between 30 and 50% failure rate, and THAT was impossible to ignore. (Also, consumers tried to do class action on Xb0x360 and it didn't hold up in court).

The way I see it - just because the issue doesn't affect a majority of the users doesn't mean the phones don't have technical faults. If you live in a big city with very excellent cellular coverage, you will never encounter this issue.
And people that keeps posting speed tests with full bars obviously don't understand the issue. My max destroys my other mobile devices in speed test as well when sitting next to the router.

Several of us in this thread have tested our devices in all kinds of signal conditions and have had no unexpected problems.

My only issue was with a weak 5Ghz wifi signal, which has been totally fixed in 12.1. Cell service works as expected in strong and poor signal areas.

Clearly ios12 has some connectivity gremlins that are being sorted out.

My still 5Ghz keeps on getting disconnected in the far corner of my house while my other phone + 2012 ipad maintains the connection fine. This is my 2nd max btw... what are the chances that 2 phones bought 1 month apart exhibiting the same problem. Assuming the first "bad" batch was exhausted.

Dunno, but that's what mine was doing prior to 12.1. Constantly dropping 5Ghz, over and over in a place my 7+ handled it fine (only on the weak side of my house through several walls and two closed doors). So for me, at least, it wasn't a hardware problem and was fixed by something they changed in 12.1. If I would have exchanged devices it would have been a total waste of time.

How do you know what band it’s on?

I’m starting to lose hope about it all. 12.1 did nothing for my LTE issue. I can’t find any info on if 12.1.1 beta improves LTE for those with problems. It really seems like it’s still a mystery and some of us might be stuck with underperforming phones.

My wife bought a XS today. I was hesitant and she knew all the issues I was having. But hers is 100% fine. Tested in store and had normal speeds and from general use today has had no problems. I asked the apple employee at the store if they’ve heard of people with LTE problems. He was just a floor employee but he gave me a generic answer about not hearing about any problems and how I should call my carrier.

It’s really maddening. I’m sure it’s a subset of users and maybe a certain mix of factors, but all I know is that my phone is not working as well as my years old 7+ which I regret selling. I’ve spent so much time on the phone with apple support, senior advisers, geniuses, and on this and other forums. It’s really exhausting and frustrating.

Everyone keeps saying to get a replacement etc. I have, and the experience was not easy having to FIGHT the genius for a replacement. I have a feeling I’d have even worse luck trying to fight for yet another, if that would even fix my issue. Which I honestly doubt. I just wish we knew what the heck was happening...

The number of new people coming on here to complain of the problem has nearly come to a halt. We just seem to be rehashing the same issues with the people who were here initially. I feel for those having problems as I was one of you. I finally decided the problem would probably not be fixed to my satisfaction and returned my Max for an XR. No more problems.

Probably won't make a difference, but curious if you've tried putting your wife's sim into your phone and vice versa to see if it changes anything?
