Interesting...I also take the 1 train. This morning I noticed a little bit of signal at certain stations, but it was slow to appear...like, it would finally pop up just as the train was pulling back out of the station. Hm.

off to take it again now, will report back. another anecdotal example is i usually lose service in the stairwell of my apartment building and then it takes a block or two to resume on 12.0. i just walked out and it was full strength functional LTE

I was bopping around Manhattan all day yesterday (first time in city with my Max) and reception is definitely worse than it was on my X. This is on 12.1, technically the last public beta.

Once connected it was fine, more or less. But, it was slow to find bars several times. Frustrating. Not sure what I'm going to do.

took the 1 train to 42nd from 96th and it reliably connected at every station. and then the N train to Canal, and again quick connection except at 14th St oddly.

times square was a big improvement. I’d have to stand there 5-7 minutes before LTE popped up; today it did right when i entered the station.

Found this online.

Do you have the release notes for 12.1.1 beta? All that is posted on the MacRumors home page is: "contains bug fixes and improvements.".

T-Mobile (US) - XS Max 64 GB, Apple Unlocked

iOS 12.1
Modem: 1.01.30
Carrier: 34.0

iOS 12.1.1
Modem: 1.02.09
Carrier: 34.5.3

So, definitely modem and carrier changes in there - performance TBD

Thanks for the update! I’ll try and report my findings after my next commute.

I've been told to do this twice now, and it did absolutely nothing twice now, except cause me to lose years' worth of Wi-Fi passwords.

Low-strength LTE speeds on my XS remain abysmal on 12.1 even after this step. What's worse, the phone is now reverting again to 4G.

Said it in #3271

12.1 iOS beta 5, 1.01.30 Modem Firmware, T-Mobile 34.0 carrier - Still Not Fixed, Weak signal drops to 4g, seconds of silence, System Failures, Will not recover LTE unless toggle Airplane mode., Will not seek & Hold LTE unless rebooted.

Yes WIFI 2.4 5GHz Preference and toggling 'appear' fixed different flavors of WIFI calling may still have issues
LTE speed tests show improvement but thats a fake carrier patch similar to more bars in more places.

Now

12.1.1 with 1.02.09 Modem Firmware, T-Mobile Carrier 34.5.3 better..... but still testing.

my contact is saying that there is nothing in this update that improves cellular connectivity and that they are still looking into it.

12.1 GM That is correct

Reception on my max was ok with WiFi on in my apartment prior to the update....since yesterday and the update it shows 3 bars not 1 or 2 at where I was studying and I had numerous people say they couldn’t hear me with WiFi. I immediately reset the network settings...T-Mobile btw. It continued today and I tried it with WiFi off in other areas of my apartment (as an experiment) with 3 bars showing...horrible!! Dropped calls for the first time!! Called T-mobile and was dropping calls with them! Put in my SIM card that came with the max and not expecting much. They just told I may have to return it. This is B.S!!!! I’m going to open a case just for the sake of it! I would rather have two notches aka pixel 3 and working phone than this crap!!

It's hard to decipher exactly what you're having problems with...are you having problems with WiFi or with cellular? Have you previously only been making calls with WiFi calling?

Allllll I want for Christmas isssss a Qualcomm modem!.!.!.!.!.!
After 12.1 service somewhat better in NYC but nowhere where it should be
Intel is not up to par when in comes to modems
Apple and Qualcomm fighting and we suffer!
