After 12.1 update my cell stayed on par with my 7+ and my 5ghz WiFi is pretty solid now.
Oh and my upload speeds on cellular have drastically improved.

The true, full fix is next year’s phone.I think Apple may have done something small to address the LTE issues in this release, but are continuing to try to find a true, full fix.
It has nothing to do with antennas or with software. It's simply the diffrence between Qualcomm and Intel. Move on. Qualcomm is the best, period.
No one knows what the cause of the problem is.It has nothing to do with antennas or with software. It's simply the diffrence between Qualcomm and Intel. Move on. Qualcomm is the best, period.
Took the subway home last night. 13 stations on the way, and reliable signal in all. That’s an improvement. NYC, Max, Verizon.
it is very clear that the issue lies with the poor placement of the antennas
Wow! What line?
For those of you having connection issues, I highly, highly recommend doing what jkozlow3 suggests: call 800-MY-IPHONE, and open up a case. I just did, and it took about ten minutes.
After speaking to the initial support person, he routed me to the Senior Engineering team, who have a team of folks looking at this particular issue. I was asked to install two loggers on my phone (which took about a minute in total to do) and I've been asked to take three Speedtest screenshots tomorrow, along with one of my results page. Apple will be collecting data in the background in the meantime.
As jkozlow3 mentioned, the more of us with connection issues that do this, the better.
Qualcomm is the best, period.
Hi folks, an update:
I've been running Speedtests galore ever since I called Apple, opened up a case, and installed two loggers for them. Initially, after installing the loggers, and resetting network settings (all of this on 12.1), I was still obtaining horrible data rates -- I had a number of 0.01 Mbps results. For some reason last night, I decided to power off & on the phone, and ever since then, my rates have substantially improved, ranging from 2 - 8 Mbps.
(Those rates may not sound like much, but I was always an edge case--there's just something about my house in DC that pulls in a terrible AT&T connection. My unlocked 8+, with a Qualcomm modem, had spoiled me prior to the XS.)
For those of you who have upgraded to 12.1 and are still receiving terrible speeds, try restarting your phone. No promises, but it definitely made a difference for me.
Ahem - its the Qualcomm modems in iPhone 7s that are the subject of the "No Service" replacement program. Intel models are not part of the program.
Qualcomm is totally overrated and nothing more than patent trolls at this point.
Not the person you're replying too, but I have a video of my 7 and my XS, with similar RSRP0 values, on the same network, and the 7 is getting 4-7 mbps up and my XS is getting .5. Downstream is totally fine for me, I'm getting outstanding results. 12.1 did nothing to improve the situation and it's frustrating because I use Siri in my car a lot and it's slow to respond because the upstream bandwidth is so bad.You should borrow a friend's sim card from another network for a few minutes and see if it changes anything...would be interesting to see.
Same exact thing I'm seeing on TMo in north Atlanta suburbs. XS is blazing on downloads, horrible on uploads. 7 is fast on downloads (but slower than XS) but gets a respectable 4-6 upstream whereas the XS is at .5
So while QC may well have issues, Intel is definitely not winning any awards here.
1 train! Presumably same outcomes with 2/3 as well.
