I don't think you want to eliminate the 5GHz band. The issue is that the XS/Max will get stuck on the 2.4GHz band, even in circumstances where it should use 5GHz. Leave the 5GHz network enabled so your other devices are still able to use it.
If you must, you could name the 5GHz network something different and connect your devices to the two separate networks manually.
Yeah, it's a hassle-- more of a hassle than a >$1200 phone should be causing. I am able to blacklist devices on my network on each individual band, so I just blacklisted my Max from the 2.4GHz network to force it onto the 5GHz bands. This works for me, since my apartment isn't that large and the 5GHz signal reaches everywhere just fine. This is what I ended up doing. I didn't quite understand the issue people were describing. I renamed the 5ghz version so I can change manually. I'm still having a ton of connectivity issues with my new phone. I hope there is a way to fix this all.
Do both the XS & XSM have that antennae on thd bottom that took away the speaker symmetry? IYAM, it took something serious to have that happen.
Has anyone actually tried the supposed fix posted a couple of pages back (restore phone via itunes to reinstall iOS then set up as new)?
Someine said they set up their new phone like that from the start and we’re getting signal issues. So it’s not a proven solution at present.
I’m thankful I still have my 6S Plus to fall back on.so I guess there will be quite a few returns?
I already set mine up as new from iTunes from the beginning.Has anyone actually tried the supposed fix posted a couple of pages back (restore phone via itunes to reinstall iOS then set up as new)?
Yup. Make absolutely no difference for me at all.Has anyone actually tried the supposed fix posted a couple of pages back (restore phone via itunes to reinstall iOS then set up as new)?
Aside from the 5ghz wifi issue- the modem is really terrible at re-acquiring signals. you can go to airplane modem to speed this up but if you lose signal it waits a long time before re-acquring even if you just stepped out of an elevator etc.
factory restore it? Someone else had this same issue and if I remember right that's what they did. Or just exchange it.I am just pissed beyond words. There has been no word from apple, when I speak with them; they refer me to Sprint. And then I am stuck in a cycle of Sprint reps (including executives I’ve spoken to) that are constantly getting me to do the same things as the last person I talked to!! They continue to tell me they can even see on their end that my phone is refusing to fully activate.
I don't have to do any of this. Mine just works. For people with larger living spaces (or spaces with more obstructions), they will have to either:
- A) Separate the SSIDs out and manually connect to the 5GHz band and remain there, which means more rapidly decreasing signal strength when moving further from the access point or potential dead zones.
- B) Separate the SSIDs out and manually switch back and forth between the bands based on the signal strength they are getting from each in any given location.
- C) Leave both bands named the same thing and just deal with their iPhone getting stuck on the 2.4GHz band-- resulting in a potentially slower (in some cases, MUCH slower) connection versus the 5GHz band.

This is different than what most here are experiencing.

We purchased 90+ XS Max devices for our senior partner attorneys and 75% are experiencing these issues and have asked for their firm issued iPhone 7 devices back which we no longer have. Its a mess.
