If the press picks it up and continues to harp on it I think Apple will be forced to say something. Will they admit the screwed the pooch I doubt it. Is there a fix, we can hope.

How many are going to return because of fear of getting stuck with an expensive iPhone that isn’t performing as it should. I have not had any if the issues mentioned but even I admit I am concerned. I will be very nervous seeing next Friday come knowing the return window is closing. I hope something shakes out in the coming week on this issue. I would be curious how many has decided to return and/or keep it hoping for the best?

I’ve only had mine 2 days and plan on returning it before the 2 weeks is up. I’m actually glad I didn’t get mine right away this time.

I would hold on to it if they acknowledged the problem and say they are working on a fix. If it can’t be fixed by software, then I’ll just have to wait for next year or go back to an X. I’m just worried it is a hardware issue and they will claim it is a small percentage of the phones affected. Kind of like how they have handled other design flaws... like keyboards, iPhone 4, etc.

This is the worry, like the ‘small percentage’ of people affected by diet stopping their Apple laptop keyboards from working.. and then we had a design change.

Will be interesting to see if Apple do say anything.

In my country new iPhones are available since yesterday. I had one on order but cancelled it after I noticed the FCC tests. 1500€ is too much to waste playing with the luck.

I'm not afraid of Intel modems and the rest but it's my job to know what a poorly designed antenna really means to a wireless communication device.

I just returned my XS. Unfortunately as I bought from an authorized reseller they cannot issue a refund/exchange until a certified Apple technician checks it out. Gotta wait a few days

I have now popped my SIM card back into a 6S and tested the LTE. At the exact same spot where I tested ‘LTE’ for the XS (I say ‘LTE’ because the XS could not hold LTE signal, it was on 3G), the 6S is giving me speeds of about 110 MBS wherelese the XS gave me 10 to 30 MBS. I don’t live in a ‘fringe’ area.

There is really something wrong with the XS. (At least the one which I had)

just did a test on my launchday Xs Max and even though i thought it was bad, it seems that its actually on par with my previous phone, if i test on same location, same carrier, same sim card. At least its not significantly worse than my Mate 10 Lite:

You phone is showing 3 bars. You won't have an issue on either phone if signal is strong. Go to an area with just 1 bar, and report back.

There is an issue. Even on 3 bars. But even though its horrible, its on par with the android device i have. In Denmark we have very strong 4G, and i get 50-80 MBit on my company phone (iphone 6) on same location (different carrier). So I had the impression that the Max was doing really bad, but in fact its the same as other phones, with that specific carrier, at least in the office.

But i will definitely keep testing, I get your point with low signal strength. However that has not been a concern until now, it was the low speeds which caught my attention. Will keep an eye out for low bars and do more speedtests with 1-2 bars.

So let’s assume there is a design problem. I don’t think Apple would issue a recall, but imagine they issued an iTunes Store credit as a ‘sorry’. How much would it take to make you happy? 50, 100, 500?

Updated the Apple Watch to fix the activity rings. Because Activity rings>iPhone reception. Hell, emoji's>iPhone reception in their eyes.

Surely you don’t believe that, do you? I would would have thought most anyone would realize these are two separate teams working on things. Come on.

I will be keeping my iPhone XS Max but I am still disappointed in the Intel modem. Shame on Apple for sourcing such garbage components. They could easily pay to design their own.

This is really an unfair comment. The intel models are doing fine in high signal areas. This is about poor antenna performance and seems to be a design flaw with that, not the modems. This whole Qualcomm vs Intel bs is just a distraction. Even side by side it means nothing at all outside of controlled conditions on the same bands, same antennas, and same strengths.

There will never be a recall. Just imagine if this issue affects only 10% of the new iphones, and they sold 2 million so far. That would mean 200,000 would need to be recalled. That is a huge hit to profits. Now increase that to 20 million sold. 2 million would be recalled. They never recalled the 4.

i happened to see this youtube that seemed rather informative on this reception problem, and decided to share it here.

my apologies if this is just old info, as there is simply too much posts in this thread for me to know what has been discussed here.

Now you know how 2016-2017 MBP owners felt. Then the 2018 came
With issues so it balanced it out. Perspective that next and best doesn’t mean fixed and better.
