Actually they are actively investigating. These things take time.

It bothers me when people say that. What leads you believe they are actively investigating it? I went to a carrier store and the employee told me "yes there is an issue and Apple knows about it, they are pushing an update soon". I believe Apple is looking into some customers phones but I don't believe they have acknowledged any issue with signal whatsoever.

Interesting. Did they give an ETA on that at all? Sounds like it very well may be a software issue... if we believe the carrier employee that is.

So I have an XS and XS Max here next to me and both are on the same wifi network. My XS gets over 500Mbps and my Max is getting 42Mbps. Is this the problem that people are having?

Same.

I have a gigabit connection with UAP HD APs with a 1u server running PFsense. My speeds are very consistent and with my X would pull 430Mbps pretty consistently. My XS Max sometimes hits 550Mbps which is higher than I ever saw on my X. But then sometimes it will only pull 30Mbps and will do so until I turn wifi off and then back on.

I'm not excusing Apple but maybe avoiding products on launch can be a good thing as over time the manufacturing process gets perfected and the kinks get sorted out.

No, my point is I don't think that employee knew anything they are just trying to avoid returns. I'm confident that Apple isn't telling carrier stores about their update plans. I used to sell cell phones and did so for 15 years never did Apple reach out to us directly any news I got about pending fixes was through the same means all of you get that news.

I just keep hearing people say a fix is coming but I don't think anyone would know that we also don't have any proof that software can fix this.

I agree. Years ago I was with Sprint. I had poor service at my house, with most of the time having no connection. I remember the rep telling me Sprint was going to build a new tower that year near me. Glad I didn't believe him and switched to Verizon. To this day, they have not built that new tower near me.

I think the employee was feeding you a made up line of crap.

Hopefully it’s a software issue and not the Intel modems that Apple is using

If it’s a software issue than an update will Be forthcoming soon

I heard about this issue today too for the first time from one of my employees that purchased the Max. He is also having the reception on cellular and WiFi as well. He just told me at the football game which neither one of us have much signal that he is done and driving to Apple store to do a return tomorrow. I have to say for as happy as I have been I am tempted to go with him and do the same till this is solved. I spent too much money to find it’s hardware and no fix only tweaking is possible. Apple needs to be transparent on this before Friday of next week or they will get a lot of returns from people like myself that even though I am for the most part happy don’t want to get stuck.

Have you been getting dropped calls or anything?
From the same location I’ve been using the iPHone 8 Plus for the last 12 months, today I had my first call with the XS Max and I had to hang up because it was impossible to talk, it was a continous interruption, with the 8+ I never had a single issue.

I am one of the lucky ones. I've posted speed comparisons with my Xs Max at home and downtown, showing that it seems to be functioning fine.

My Qualcomm iPhone X on AT&T was often losing wifi-calling, and often had trouble in my weak signal neighborhood with switching from LTE to 4G or 3G and back. So I would lose calls in home, or when walking around in my neighborhood.

I never had more than 1 bar of LTE at home with my Qualcomm X on AT&T, which is how it was with my previous iPhones, including 6, 6+, 6s+, and 7+. I had to keep my iPhone X in 3G/4G all the time with LTE turned off, which helped a little, while I was always able to leave LTE turned on with my 7+ (both active at the same time with different phone numbers).

I want to add that it seems to be more reliable than my X, which I still have (I shipped my 7+ to my brother on Monday). I do not drop calls anymore, and call quality is better, and I don't have to turn off LTE - it does a better job switching to 4G if it needs to, and I still have 3 bars when it drops to 4G.

My only issue is that with my TimeCapsule down in the basement the Xs Max grabs the 2.4Ghz network instead of 5Ghz, so I connect to my 5G access point in my bedroom instead. I'm hoping this gets worked out for everyone, but I think I am keeping mine.

I couldn’t even make it through a short FB video sitting near my modem. So frustrating!!
